Wow two blogs in a week and one of them isn’t rambling about what random toys I found, I’m doing pretty darn good (psst that’s on Friday). Good morning Pixlpeeps! I am sitting here in clear skies Southern California, where yesterday was gray, gloomy, and I was cursing at tourists who have no idea of where they are going so they stop in the middle of the road to make up their mind. That’s what I get for living in a place where in the winter people love to show up. Anyways today is the last day of 2019 and I thought I would do my yearly Resolutions (Goals) recap and what’s on the menu for 2020. Sound fun? Let’s get started!

03

2019 Goals

 Games Stuff

01

  1. I kinda did. I mean I played a lot more of certain games I already own. I can do better, I will do better.
  2. Well that is kind of true. I didn’t buy as many games in 2019 as I did in 2018. Thank goodness I stayed away from Fanatical, Steam, Humble Bundle, and any other game spots that offered deals, and bundles. I did splurge a bit at the end of the year when I spent around $50 but I got a whole bunch of PS4, and a random 3DS game.
  3. This is the current lineup of games that can be Play to Win that I play: Disney Emoji Blitz that I play once a week to try and snipe the high score away from one of my friends (it’s kind of a dbag move but if I win one week, I take it easy the next), and Gems of War that I play until I hit the requirement of my guild and I spend no money. Then there are two other games where you can spend money but why and that is the original Injustice on Android (my roster is freaking stacked) and Asphalt 8 where I just want to collect the cars. These are my go-to and I have spent zero dollars on them.

2020 Games Goals

  1. Cut back on spending: I’m on the right track of only buying games when I think I would enjoy them not because they’re super cheap and X amount of dollars. I will have a little disclaimer and if I find a PS2 or Playstation game that I don’t own and I think will be a good addition to the library I will get it. Also I am bringing back lists for 2020. It’s fun to keep track.
  2. No Game Goals: I don’t want to say I want to finish X number of games in 2020. I just want to play the games, enjoy/hate/be indifferent about them and then move on. While going through my 360 games I saw that I have the Gears of War series that I really didn’t play and I would like to give them a chance.
  3. Stay away from Pay to Win games: I have my core four. Gems takes up a lot of time, the other three do not, I’d like to keep it this way.

Non Game Stuff

02

  1. Yeah it didn’t happen. I don’t know why, but it didn’t. That’s on me.
  2. So I used the library a lot more. It is one hell of a freaking resource. I haven’t used their online checkout in a couple of months but I have been reading more. In my Goodreads goal of 12 books I read 22 books. I also have a bunch of freebies from Amazon, and I’ve been browsing the Gutenberg collection of freebies.
  3. I’ve done more photography, jumped back into thrifting looking for my usual of CDs, Jerseys, Toys in that order, and I would guess reading would be considered a hobby.
  4. Ok I kinda did this one for a little bit. I started to teach myself how to play the drums. I have a drum pad, bought some sticks, got some books and I could hang with a 5th grade band class. Rhythms I am a little funky at but other that I think I’m ok. (I played Saxophone from 5th grade up until college band, so it came a bit easier to me than if I just jumped into it not knowing anything.)
  5. I use it, I like it, and in 2020 here’s to more of me there probably annoying the staff (not really, they’re super nice). I’m thinking of checking out Audiobooks in 2020 from there.
  6. Oh I so did this and I feel better for it (how sad is that?) I watch the local portion of the news, the stuff about random traffic accident, pie sales, and other small town stuff. The minute the National stuff comes on I switch over to PBS and watch Rick Steve’s travels through Europe. Sorry folks but when the National news is just about two sides acting like babies I have better things to watch.

2020 Non Games Goals

  1. Organization: I’m bringing back lists, I’m cleaning up the stuff I own, and sorting through things I don’t need and tossing/donating/throwing into the garage sale pile. I started this in the end of October where I started going through my bills stuff and I bought a fancy (Walmart $10 folder where the button broke a week later) and I organized them. I also started to organize my music collection that will live on my laptop. It was fun having my entire CD collection on there but do I really need Sade’s Greatest Hits AND her Ultimate Collection sitting on the same laptop? On another hard drive I’ve been going through all and I mean ALL of my music. CD rips get to be included in this unless it’s repetitive than it only lives on my main external drive, and the years of downloads/mixtapes will be placed on it, I take the favorite songs and then the stuff I don’t want gets erased. The original stuff still lives on the main external drive.
  2. Read More: I still set the goal at 12, but with reading comics and some actual books it will exceed that. No Limits….Uhhhh N nah N nah (that was my 90s Master P reference)
  3. Twitter/Reddit/News: I’m cutting even further back on the negative items on these resources. The mute/block/downvoting/etc. Will continue and the way I’ve been watching the local news works so I will stick to it. There are better things to get worked up about in life, Negative people shouldn’t be one of them.
  4. Exercise: Yeah we’re starting back up by bringing back my morning or late afternoon walks. I miss doing this. Having a good podcast/audiobook/sports radio on the earbuds while I walk around the neighborhood was the best, and I want to do this again. I’ll go back into the gym in February when the hype dies down.
  5. Other Stuff: This is the place holder for anything new that pops in my head throughout the year.

Alright Pixlpeeps I am off to eat some breakfast. Have a safe and Happy New Year!

That’s all for now, more next year! (I’ll see myself out)

-Chris

Cutting back on spending is hard!

I'm down to 185 now, so I've lost 72 pounds total. But I'm not really exercising. I'd like to do more cardio on a regular basis.

It is, but I think I did ok last year when I didn't buy as many games. I think trying to sell off the stuff at my garage sale stuck in my head.

That is freaking awesome man, congrats! I need to get up and start getting motivated to work out and at least start walking again.

I definitely cut down on the negative news and social media myself, and it sure does help. I'd get off Twitter entirely, except I have to use it for work. As a result, I probably end up being part of the negativity just cause of how much I hate having to log in there. Sorry about that. lol

I think I probably set a reading goal, but I definitely didn't reach it. In my defense, I do read a lot for work (journalism professor). I need to rediscover my local library as you have. Houston's library apparently has some amazing audiobook resources even if you're not in the area.

I've done really well exercising, but my diet and my wallet have taken lots of hits from eating out.

I like your gaming goals. I think my gaming goal this year is just to go back to doing what I did when I was younger: mostly rentals and only the ocassional bought game when I REALLY want something. I need to start my GameFly subscription again. Since I'm not paying for streaming services, that'll be my equivalent of a Netflix or Amazon Prime Video ...or  HBO NOw, all of which I have through friends and family for free. Who knows what I'll do when these services start figuring out how to cut back on that practice!

In any case, Happy New Year's Eve and a Happy New Year if I don't type at you until then! Here's to a roaring 2020!

Having less negativity is always a good thing. Some days Twitter is hilarious, other days people just go nuts. I do my share of bitching on there, but some folks are obsessed with being angry. When you and the good people here pop up on my timeline it's about games or books. It's interesting to see what others are doing.

Man your library system must have a ton of undiscovered treasures. Since I'm in a small town the library system here is small but there are some cool books, music to be found. If anything start with their online stuff.

I dig that about the games. I think you'd experience a lot more with Gamefly .

Happy 2020!

I didn't make a resolution last year, but early on in 2019 I started working out and lifting weights a lot more.  LIke almost every day.  Since then I've lost 8 pounds of body fat and gained ten pounds of muscle.

That is awesome, and that's something I need to start doing/getting back into.

It was years ago that I started haunting libraries in my area. It started with music. I must've mined a dozen or more libraries in my area for the best stuff. Some libraries have better collections than others.

Then it was books and audio books. Then I discovered lecture series like what The Teaching Company does. I did the movie thing too here and there.

Finally, I've started to rent games, which is great for checking out the big titles that I want to see but don't want to own.

Now I work at a library and here's hoping I get more work there in 2020. That' my resolution.

More power to your resolution in 2020!

I want to start doing that at my local libraries this year. That have a decent music selection but I want to start checking out their audiobooks and adding to my collection. I need to check out the library by the Community College. It should have a bigger selection of items and hopefully a decent used/donated shop inside.

Yeah, I hit the book sales at the libraries too for all sorts of media.
