So for the most part my week of gaming has been pretty bare. The only real excitement happened yesterday but more on that in a bit. I really wasn’t in a gaming mood even though I think I did fire up the PS4 at some point last week. I can’t remember why but I did. Like I said there wasn’t a lot until yesterday.

01

WWE Battlegrounds - Switch: This is a game I’ve been waiting for because it looked silly, kind of reminded me of the WWE fighting game that was on Android/iOS years ago that I enjoyed, and did I mention it was a silly game? Battlegrounds is basically a real arcade like wrestling game where the premise is the wrestlers you are using are supposed to be toys. Think of it like a kid who has a crazy imagination playing with their toys doing crazy spots. The closest thing I could describe it to would be a mix of the old WWF Arcade Game meets WWE All Stars.

On the main menu there are a number of options:

02

Play - a number of different game modes, everthing from the Story Mode, to King of the Ring Tournaments, to different types of Exhibitions, and an Online Mode.

04

Superstars - the current in game roster. This is where you can unlock wrestlers and view your current unlocked roster. To unlock wrestlers you can either play matches and earn WWE Bucks, or you can buy gold coins. It’s really not that hard to earn bucks, you usually get something like 300 bucks per match, and the most expensive wrestlers are the Legends which are 12,000 bucks each.

For updates I read that they will be free and the game will have an additional 60 wrestlers and updates to game modes.

Character Creator/Battleground Creator - This is where you can customize your wrestler and events

Daily Challenges - Each day there are three Challenges for you to try and complete. Complete one and I think you earn 1,000 bucks.

Store - This is where you can take advantage of wrestler bundles. I believe every 12 days there are three new bundles you can purchase with either WWE bucks or gold coins.

05

Currently I am playing through the Story Mode, and the premise is Vince McMahon wants to start a new wrestling show and has “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and Paul Heyman go out and find wrestlers to populate this new endeavor. Presented in a comic book style Stone Cold goes to different venues and finds new wrestlers in odd places. Once he finds a person that can be a wrestler to start on a path where you control them in matches against established WWE SuperStars, and prove that you belong in the WWE. You can unlock different rewards that are power-ups, wrestlers, and other goodies.

Just playing the first section of Story Mode I earned enough WWE bucks to buy all three wrestler bundles.

So far I am really enjoying this game. It’s a silly take on wrestling (which is kind of silly if you think about it) where I can play a handful of games, put the Switch down, and do something else. It can be seen as mindless fun but some days these are the best games to play. The game is $40 and I was debating on getting this game on either Steam or the Switch. I decided with the Switch because the way this game plays it feels like it would be more suited to gaming on the go. Also if you want to buy this game right now, Walmart is selling it for $32 before tax.

Other Games:

Texas Hold’em - iOS: I tried the old Texas Hold’em game on the iPad and if you ever wanted to see what a Sega CD FMV game would look like with updated graphics, this game is for you.

Marvel Puzzle Quest - Android: Still have no idea what I am doing but I am playing a fun match 3 game.

Alright Pixlpeeps I am off, have a good week!

That’s all for now, more later!

I thought about reviewing WWE Battlegrounds but since I don't know much about wrestling, i didn't think it would be a good fit.  Plus I've got six other games to review right now.

I think you would have liked it. The controls are simple and it would be a fun couch game with kids, just as long as they know they should try and copy any of the crazy moves.

I would be more into a cartoony wrestling game than something more "realistic". And I'd love a Mario franchise wrestling game, ha ha.

I can't get into realistic wrestling games. It just doesn't flow for me. This one is silly, you can button mash, or you can try and get some different offense in, and when you can toss your opponent at an Alligator, or hit them with a toy hammer that squeaks, I'm all in.

I watched a trailer of WWE Battlegrounds in the Xbox store. It looks fun. If it appears in Game Pass, or goes on mega sale, I'll play it.

Yeah its one of those games where you don't need to play it right away unless you want to mix it up online. If it hits gamepass give it a try.
