Quick Hits: I May Have Bought Some Toys

So I had a Quick Hits blog written last week, but I scrapped it (no idea why), and then on Monday I had a regular blog about what I played but again scrapped it (again no idea why), but now I am convinced that I need to at least write this one and make sure it is posted before Turkey Day (my Canadian Friends celebrate with us with some Turkey) just in case I don’t update you good people with my gaming plans for Thanksgiving. Let’s get started.

Chris Watches:

Jeopardy! - Syndication: I’ve watched this show since the mid/late 80s, and it has been a big part of my life. Every night right around dinner, turn the TV volume up, and whoever was in the house while eating would shout out answers. I went from a little kid amazed at family members who knew the answers to answering one or two questions a night to the present where I can keep up with the contestants most nights, and can make a decent guess based on the hints within the clues, I’ve grown up with this show. When Alex Trebek died it was the first time I’ve ever cried for a celebrity. I didn’t know the guy but every Monday through Friday, and more recently random repeats on Saturday and the stuff on Netflix, I’ve been getting a lot of Jeopardy in. Hell even on the gaming side I’ve had at least one copy of Jeopardy on every console I’ve owned (I’m saving the Switch one for Santa to bring me because I’ve been so-so.)

There are recorded episodes with Alex Trebek up until Christmas, and for the first week since his passing I’ve stopped yelling out answers just to listen to the show, and just enjoy what’s going on. This past week I’ve slowly gone back to answering questions, but still just absorbing the content because after Christmas it’s going to be different. The guts of the show will be the same but the heart will be different.

Chris Listens To…

Remember the prepaid phone I bought years ago to use as an MP3 player? Well for the past year it’s job was to talk to the Blutooth speaker in my bathroom so I can sing (very badly) in the shower. Since it is full on Christmas mode I have filled it with my Christmas music collection, and that bad boy will play nothing but Christmas songs until January 1st. I’ll be walking around with 5,400+ songs about snow, a fat guy in a sleigh, gifts, and other things as I walk around in shorts debating if I need a hoodie in the mornings (sorry East Coast folks it’s going to be 85° and sunny today here in Southern California).

Pickups

Games

01

I saw this deal on Fanatical last week for $3 and for some odd reason it was a game that I wanted to try. This might be one of those Thanksgiving games I get into.

Last night at TJ Maxx while looking for a shirt to wear for Thanksgiving dinner I noticed that they had a display of games in the men’s section of puzzles, board games, shaving kits, and other randoms you need for a quick gift. I spot this one for $7 and figured it would be a good deal for the DLC is not on the disc but rather online code that surprise expired, well now I have two copies.

02

Things that bug me: DLC on disc, codes that have an expiration date, and having to be online in order to play a damn game.

Music

While buying toys for my baby nephew at Target I stopped at their ever shrinking music section to pick up a Christmas album that I wanted a physical copy of instead of a download from iTunes

03

I left their Best Of CD figuring that I already own all the songs until I was talking with a friend who said there are a couple of new songs on that album. The minute I got home I hopped on the laptop and ordered that Best Of CD, as well as their first Christmas Album that I don’t have.

04

Amazon had both at the house the next day. In total I think I spent a little under $30 for all 3 CDs.

Toys

Ok so let’s begin with stuff I found at Treasure Hunt (the place that sells overstock/returns from Target/Kohl’s/Macy’s.) I bought three figures for a total of $12

05

  1. M. Bison by Funko. They’re built and shaped like the old Masters of the Universe figures and I have most of their DC line so my little community of figures is getting a new guy to fight Batman. The next set of figures their box looked like it was run over but everything inside was fine and complete (that plastic mold is truly amazing)

06a

06b

Storm also comes with two additional sets of hands, a head, and a cape if you don’t want to pose her in her hovering overhead angry pose. They’re the same size as WWE Basics/Elite figures so if you wanted to mix up your Fig Feds this is the way to do it.

*Random Tangent* It is amazing how toys now especially figures the majority of them are all the same size so you could incorporate them all into some crazy story your imagination can come up with. When I was growing up GI Joe was too small to be with Masters of the Universe, and the Marvel/DC figures were in between those two sizes. Now Marvel/DC/Halo/Ghostbusters/WWE/AEW and whoever else makes 6” figures can all share the same universe

Keeping with the figure theme, I’m really getting into these Mega Construx figures, and I might start buying the ones at Walmart for Masters of the Universe, and I believe there are a ton of Claptrap’s from Borderlands. Also I need to get the Halo ones from Ross. Anyways found another Call of Duty guy at the same TJ Maxx I bought Destiny from, and in true Chris fashion no idea which game he is from

07

These guys are bigger than Lego Minifigs but I have the first He-Man/Skeletor figs, I have a Kratos fig, and those Game of Thrones figs so sprinkle in some Call of Duty.

Final toy pickup was from Walmart when surprise I went there for groceries. In their Christmas Idea section in the front they had an aisle of just toys including Hot Wheels and WWE figs so naturally I stopped. I found these cars

08

I bought two of each of the first two cars so I can open one, and keep the other sealed. They’ll go in the Batman plastic bin of sealed cars, and I found a Flintstones car, and a Ford Lightning Truck. There were a couple of Flintstones but I only took one so some other collector can at least have one (there were a bunch of F&F and Batgirl Copters so I thought it would be ok to take two).

Alright Pixlpeeps I am off. Have a good weekend, and if I don’t write a blog next week (I probably will but just in case) Have a Happy, and Safe Thanksgiving!

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

Right now I'm working on reviewing a PS4 version of Family Feud and it made me think about other game shows that have been out for a long time.  And I thought of Jeopardy.  Are they going to still show it after his death?  Did they get a new host?

I like that Flintstones Hot Wheels.  A while back, a relative bought me a Hot Wheels car that was a monster truck with the Oscar Meyer hot dog truck on top of it!  It even comes with a plastic car mold for it to crush.  It's a very well-made toy.

I played the first Torchlight and liked it a lot. I saw II on sale today, but I got Spyro Reignited Trilogy instead. Torchlight III just came out too, and I want to play that. I'm going to replay the first one soon though. I never finished it.

You are a regular toy wrangler. I used to know a guy who was called the toy wrangler for that show Robot Chicken. You could create your own stop-motion show with all those figures.

That Flintstones car though!

I remember watching Jeopardy at my grandma's house when I was a kid. In my memory, it seems like Trebek never aged through all those years, but I've seen pictures of him now from back then, and he did change, I just didn't notice. It's really sad he died.
