BaD Day 17: What I Want (Probably Unrealistic) In Next Gen Gaming!

Since Sony announced (but did not show) their new PS4, I thought about things I wanted to see in Next Gen Gaming. The majority of my ideas are probably unrealistic, which is fine, because this is my list, and I call it

This Is What I Want (Probably Unrealistic) In Next Gen Gaming!

Android Games: Before people start throwing things at me, let me explain, there are a bunch of really good games on the phone…besides Paper Toss. There are a couple of games that want to be more than casual games, and some have succeeded while, many become Paper Toss (I actually enjoy Paper Toss). Why not have the ability to sync your games onto your console from your phone or vice versa? Heck the console companies can even have the Google Play Store on their consoles, and maybe even release some games (between 1-4 dollars)

*Bonus: I also want to see this happen because I want to play Simpsons Tapped Out on my TV as well

Dreamcast VMU: Remember the VMU? Remember how some games had mini games you could put on the VMU? Well since a lot of people now have cell phones why not have Console games that could bring back this little piece of tech? Buy the game, redeem a code on Google Play Store that will be on your console (see console peoples it could work) and the app goes on your phone. After finish playing the game on your console, it syncs to your phone, and now you have a little piece of the game with you.

*Bonus: take your phone to your friend’s house, play the same game and your stats, trophies/achievements, get sync’d. Throw in a trophy/achievement for using this feature, people will try to earn it.

Used Games: Ok now I know people have already picked a side on the used game debate, and I think there is a way for both sides to be happy. Follow my theory: New game comes out, and instead of a used game store selling a used copy that day, have an agreement that they can sell a used version in two to three weeks. Usually by this time early adopters get the game they love, and games usually go on sale. At this point start selling the game used as well. It will probably cut into a portion of a used game seller’s profits, but it’s better than not having a used game to sell at all.

Used Games Theory II: If you don’t like my original idea, here is another: When you first pop in your game, you have the option to register the game with email/and an included code. You earn a trophy/achievement, and maybe some uber exclusive throw in. Buy the game used, there is a small fee included on your purchase that has a code you use to unlock online/multiplayer/etc, but no uber exclusive throw in and no trophy/achievement. For most people this won’t bother them, but the few who were on the fence about buying the game, and like the trophies/achievements, this could be the factor to get them to preorder

Sports Games Roster Updates: I know some game companies already do this but I want to see this in all sports games. Every couple of weeks or so, have a roster update file. I know people like to create their own teams, make their own trades, and what not, but if you buy the game later than everyone else, you start with an outdated roster. Since I play old NBA Live 10 (to get my arcade bball fix,  NYK is 19-0!) the first hour of gametime for me was building up the Heat, and Lakers lineups, along with other big name players moving. User created lineups are nice, but it would be nice to see an official one be released every couple of weeks.

Barcodes/QR Codes On Games: There have been a number of times that I’ve stood in a GameStop, or any other B&M, and said “What is this game about?” Instead of having to go to Metacritic or YouTube, why not have a code on the game that’ll send you to an info page that has a trailer and some in game footage?

Other Social Media Connections: Ok the share button is interesting but does it go only to Facebook? Why not have an option to take a screen shot, and be able to send it to Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, etc.? I want my Twitter followers to know in my NCAA Dynasty, I led Western Kentucky to a 31-13 victory over #1 Alabama (1Up readers saw the pic in my blog) Even I have to admit this feature could get old fast.

More Vita Crossplay: I really like this feature, and I’d like to see more games take advantage of it. Having a handful of games that offer this is nice, but I’d like to recruit players in my NCAA Dynasty while sitting at a McDonalds, play a quick multiplayer game while sitting in a waiting room, etc. I’m even ok with the drop in graphical quality, that comes with a handheld. I’d like to see this feature used more.

Those are my random thoughts about what I want to see in gaming. If there is any new ones, I’ll probably add them in later blogs. Think I’m nuts or I make some sense, let me know!

Well that’s all for now, more TOMORROW!

-Chris

I'm hoping you can customize the sharing and other websites could integrate so I could, for instance, share a video here on my blog here on Pixlbit by pressing a button.  I don't really want to share video games with my facebook friends.

I'd like to have that feature. I used to post whenever I earned trophies or downloaded something to Facebook, but after awhile it got annoying for me so I could only imagine what it was like for my friends

I like the idea of being able to buy Android games on a console - I don't have a cell phone and there are some games out there I'd like to try.

I think it would be fun to be able to play Android games on your console, and being able to continue your progress, and I'm sure Sony can turn their mini games into phone games and charge a buck for them

Used game theory III: All used games require an activation code to unlock.  If you didn't buy it new, then be prepared to pay $10 on top of the used price you paid...

It works for EA games if they want to get online, I don't have a problem paying a fee to access these features.

I think that the only way they can really combat used games sales is to have everything digital.  hopefully that never happens

I don't want to see everything go digital because at that point who's to say that the content you buy will continue to work when a new system is released and they (the game folks) will still support it.

I'd prefer used games stay as they are now, but I do like your Google Play idea, as I have an Android phone, and frankly I'd prefer being able to just put scramble with friends on Google Play, but not my phone!

I think it would be a good partnership between console makers and Google. Just like you, there are a good number of games I want to play on my console, and not on my phone/tablet
