Happy Friday Pixlbit! So my Aztecs didn’t get the win last night. It is disappointing that the season ends this way but for a team that in the preseason was picked 4th in the conference, to knocking out Marquette, and Creighton in the John Wooden Classic, both of which were ranked, to going to Kansas and beating the Jayhawks in their barn, to winning the conference, being ranked as high a 5th in the nation, to finally making their 2nd Sweet Sixteen in four years, this wasn’t bad for a “rebuilding” team. I can’t complain. Hell of a ride, and I can’t wait for next year when the three super freshmen join the squad. S-D-S-U, SDSU AZTECS FIGHT! WOOOOOOOOO!!!!

An Awesome piece done by The Show, SDSU's Student Section

Today is Friday, which means it is time for another Quick Hits with Chris. For today’s Quick Hits, I want to talk about my Vita & Media Center Updates, Some Reality TV; Chris goes to the Comic Store, and Pickups! So sit back, find something to drink, and let’s get started!

The Vita Updates

So I had to update my Vita a couple of times, which seems odd because all of this could have been done in one update. The first update added something I find completely useless yet I have to keep it

Why do I need a calendar on my gaming system? I have never said “You know what would make my Vita 1000X more useful? A Calendar.”

Yup you too can sync your Google Calendar to your Vita. Seriously why is this needed? You know what’s really needed for the Vita? Get rid of the damn bubbles. Heck I’d be okay with the damn bubbles (yes I need to cuss to emphasize the bubbles) if I was able to put more than a handful of items in one bubble. Let me scroll through it, I don’t want multiple screens, I could have everything I want on one screen with damn bubbles that let me have more than a handful items in each.

The second update happened earlier as I was trying to add some screen grabs from the Vita. I tried to sync with the Content Manager Assistant, and I had to update it

Once that was good to go, I tried to sync guess what I had to update my Vita…again.

Yeah it took a couple of minutes, which really didn’t need to happen but whatever. I do like the option screen

So I did all of this to for this screen

Yup. Don’t get me started on my frustration with The Show…

Ok so my character was tearing it up the first two months of the season, then got benched. When I wanted to be back in the starting lineup I was told the other Shortstop had a hot bat. Then I finally get back in the game, still a little hot, and get benched again costing me an All Star invite, a good shot at the triple crown (I was leading in Batting Average, HR’s, and RBI’s). I wanted to be traded and of course the team said it would hurt the Franchise. I get back into the startling lineup for the last month, the batting average comes back to Earth, but still hovering around .380, and tie for the home run lead, still owned the RBI leaderboard, and when it’s time for the Playoffs, I get benched.

End of the season I win NL Rookie Of The Year, and I want out of the New York Mets Organization. The only contract I was offered was with the Mets for 500K. I ask for 800K and they counter with 675,000 and don’t budge. As much as I like the actual fast paced baseball, the management stuff is crap. Hopefully this is all resolved when the new Show game is released next month.

Reality TV

Last night I missed Hell’s Kitchen because of my game, but there are a couple of other shows I watched that I would like to briefly talk about. I'll watch Hell's Kitchen on Hulu during lunch

I can’t wait for the new Challenge, especially since it’s called The Challenge Free Agents, which leads the viewer to believe everyone is out for himself or herself. Despite with Frank said, he’s back, and he’s probably going to do his “I’m smarter than you” style, and Jemmye, the girl who is scared of Ketchup (yes the stuff you put on your fries) is back. The two people I always root for CT and Cara Maria are back, but there is no Cooke. Blah.

Here is the cast for this season.

In Survivor news

I can’t stand this person. The Show is getting interesting, but I don't know if it is the editing or if she's really like this but it seems that she is like one of those folks who has an opinion, and if you have a different opinion, you're wrong and she makes sure that you know. I can't wait until she gets booted.

Chris goes to the Comic Book Store

On Tuesday I had some free time so I ran some errands, took a trip to a new store (disappointed), checked out the mom & pop music store, the GameStop at the mall, and checked out a comic book store I saw on Facebook. Yes Facebook! Who knew? Anyways I was expecting to be over my head, and for the most part I was, but the owner was nice and helped me look for my books. There are so many different books it is amazing and at the same time overwhelming. I see characters I know in like two or three different storylines, along with a bunch of new characters, and I didn’t know there was a book about Sons of Anarchy (the owner said it was a very good book).

After digging through a box I found a couple of books. I gave them to the owner and I proceeded to look around his store. It is a small store, but there were a lot of books. I didn’t get a chance to look through a couple of boxes that were labeled “Sale”, because I do love me some deals. The owner was nice, answered all of my newbie questions, and let me know of some other items I would be interested in. I spent a good 25 minutes in his store and I left with a new place to check out, even if I don’t read a lot of comic books.

As for my pickups

I had a nice conversation here on Pixlbit about Serenity having a comic book line. I kept calling it Firefly in the store and I think the owner was being really nice by letting me say that instead of the actual title. He said he didn’t know if he had anymore but told me to check the boxes, which I did, and the first book I found was Issue No. 2. Towards the end of the S section I found issue No. 1. The owner was getting a bit worried and asked how many I found, and I replied with 2, and looking for more. He said if you find 3 it’s magical because it isn’t out yet. We both laughed and right after that I found this gem

A book about The Situation? Why the hell not. Talk about a random book.

This is an awesome store, that I will be visiting to pick up Serenity, which apparently has been released on Wednesday. I don’t know if I will check out other storylines, but I am happy with my new reading materials…even if one of them is The Situation.

*It turns out the Google Play Store has a couple of different Serenity books. I might pick these up...if I can't find physical copies.

Pickups!

Games

I went to Target because I heard that Call of Duty Ghosts, the digital version was being clearance out for $20, and I knew my store had three copies. I was hoping I was able to beat the resale guy, and I did

I found a $20 copy that came in a thin 360 case. I also found the Essentials Collection under it with no price. I scanned it and it came up to around $6. I wanted it mainly for XCom, because I already have a digital copy of Borderlands on PS3, and I have a physical copy of Bioshock. Well now I have BL 1&2, and Bioshock 1&2 on both systems.

I think I am halfway through Ghosts single player, and damn this is a fun game. There is a lot of minor details which is impressive for a video game (not graphically but the items within it’s universe). I pushed myself the fist night playing it by playing two levels, which got me a bit dizzy, so I went back to one level a play through. I also have my first XBox One game which will come in handy a couple of years from now when I buy an XBox One for $300 like I did with my 360.

I also picked up Lego Lord of the Rings because I rarely see it anymore, and it was at the $20 price point. I am not a fan of LotR, I find it boring, and I am having trouble getting through this game because it’s just not interesting. I bought the game because I like the Lego games, which means I will get Lego The Hobbit as well. Blah! I can’t wait to be able to skip through the cut scenes so I can just concentrate on the gameplay which isn’t that bad.

I saw this while reading Flipboard and I had flashbacks to my old Nokia phone.

This model was my first cell phone in college. I got one for myself and for my brother and we customized the heck out of them. My phone was a transparent green color and I had Alice Deejay’s “Back In My Life” as my ringtone. I also played the hell out of this game

Yes this is what I did before class even though I had a Game Gear sitting in my dorm room. Loved this game, and it now sits on my current phone.

Music

I made a trip to the local mom & pop earlier in the week, and they had a couple of interesting items but I settled on these albums

They no longer have the Buy 5 Get 5, which is a shame, but I bought five of these albums there, and the Classical CDs were found at a thrift store. Once again I didn’t know I already owned The Proclaimers so I now have two.

On iTunes I bought this album after listening to a couple of songs on YouTube

I found Sky Ferreria on accident after watching an episode of Amoeba Records What’s In My Bag on YouTube. I didn’t know much about her but after watching a couple of videos, I like her sound so I bought the album.

Other

When I was out and about earlier in the week, I stopped by the local sports store just to see what they have. Of course there was a ton of USC and UCLA stuff but there was a section for SDSU stuff and surprise most of it was already gone (Southern California loves a bandwagon)

Anyways I added two more caps to the collection. Funny thing is the angry Monty has become more popular since the PC Police ousted it. I love the current logo but having some of the throwback (it was the current logo when I went to SDSU) is always good.

Well good people of Pixlbit, it is time we call it a blog. I’m going to go back to enjoying the rest of this album.

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

You had as much to talk about as I this week, I like the Classical set you got there. I need more on my phone.

We are very opinionated this week! If you want instant Classical, check out Amazon's mp3 page. There are a ton of the 100 classical music tracks for a $1. I bought a couple and there are tons of good stuff.

Speaking of logos, SFA had planned to present a new logo the Wednesday after we lost to UCLA, and they said they postponed it so as not to take away from the basketball team's run, but most people think it's really cause of the petition against the new logo.

Left is old, right was planned new one. I ... am probably the only person that prefers the one on the right. Someone posted an article on my Facebook that said the new logo would lose us brand equity, because it was too different; an argument I found specious, because ... what brand equity before our win over VCU? They did say our sports logo was a good alteration that didn't lose brand equity.

Considering this is supposed to build a better image for SFA, which logo do you like. I'd say the sports one. I dig y'all's new logo.

Anyway, I say a replay of that SDSU game online today, at least the first half. What a game! It was the only game I saw from yesterday in the single digits. It was tied most of the time I watched and that was great D on both ends. Hell of a rebuilding team, indeed. I'm glad both our alma maters got to enjoy going farther than they were supposed to this year. It also made me feel better to watch UCLA's size put similar pressure on the top-ranked Gators like they did to SFASU and then lose by only 6 fewer points than they beat SFASU with (we lost to UCLA by 17, they lost to Florida by 11).

Right now, I'm watching Tenessee at Michigan which ... Michigan is coasting through their defense. I may switch games in a few minutes, but apparently the other one also involved double-digit deficits for most of it so far. I feel like the basketball version of Family Guy's John Madden, I've even been shooting around at the gym after my normal work outs lately. BASKETBALLLL!!! Only sport I was ever a great player at ... in middle school. Speaking of talking heads, I enjoyed Barkley's half-time chat about his net worth in the Florida game. Laughing

Edit: Spoke too soon, that Michigan Tenessee game got interesting in the last minutes.

I'll have to listen to Sky Ferrera and watch more What's in My Bag? Didn't know about that, but it's a cool concept.

Who's Belly and is that The Beatles on the bottom left of the CD picture? I only ever heard "Five Hundred Miles" from The Proclaimers and ... it's not my favorite. I could go for some Jane's Addiction, classical music or especially NBA Jam Session. I might watch Space Jam on Netflix soon if it's still there. Well hey, I'm interested in 50% of your CDs and that (or 60%) is my average free throw percentage right now, which ... is dysmal compared to my former self. I'm still making threes consistently, though. Weird. Uncontested and by myself, but hey, I'm out of practice. lol

Snake II was all I played on my old Tracfone, which I had until my senior year of college when I got my LG Optimus V to be able to send mass texts for my management position in the dorms.

I like the action scenes in the LotR flicks, but otherwise, I'm mostly with ya. I haven't gotten far in the first book of the trilogy, either. Now, the book The Hobbit and two movies I do like, especially the newest one, which has one of the most amazing tracking shot action sequences I've ever seen on film. The kills are brutal and reminiscent of Jackson's horror work I would think, having not seen those. Dude, you need to watch that scene, it's set in an elven ravine and it's non-stop badass action kill shots.

Of those 360 games, I only want Bioshock and have it on Steam waiting to be installed.

I think I've heard of that situation comic. I should see what all the hype is about with Firefly and Serenity, which are in my Netflix Watch List, but I'm usually not big on TV Sci-Fi.

I've known too many girls like that Survivor bitch, whose freckles look like chest hair at a glance. She has a good body, though.

Sucks about the Vita updates. I am not looking forward to buying handhelds that operate like my smart phone in that regard. Not a bit.

I heard about your school's new branding and how people didn't like it. I actually like the new logo because it doesn't look as cluttered as the older one. I also really like the SFA with the ax and arm. If the University somehow used the font from that logo with the SFA inside Texas logo, it would be a solid logo set.

When I was at State we updated Monty from Angry to one that was a little more accurate. A group on campus went all PC on us (mind you they helped create the newer logo), so the University shelled out more cash for the current SD logo.

Oh we had one hell of a gameplan, but Arizona hit some big shots, we went cold and that was game. No shame in that team, they played like hell all year long, and next year should be fun with the #16 recuriting class in the nation coming in.

What's in my Bag is interesting because there are a lot of music they pickup I've never heard but end up watching on YouTube.

Belly is a movie soundtrack from the 90s (I think it was released in the 90s). It's all rappers who made this gangster flick. Nas, DMX, and Method Man are all drug dealers in NY who try to move their product to the midwest. I wasn't a fan of the movie, but liked some of the songs on it.

The Beatles looking album is Rooney. I didn't know they made another album so I thought I'd give it a listen. The Proclaimers...yep that song is on that album. I like to balme Benny and Joon for getting that song stuck in my head.

I don't know how it happened but I fell asleep while playing Lego LotR. Man oh man I better find Lego Hobbit on Sale, if I'm struggling/stay awake to get through this game.

You need to watch Firefly! Western set in space where they cuss in Chinese. You can'g go wrong.

Oh I can't stand these chicks. Again waiting for her to get booted.

that's some phone.  I remember rocking the flip phones.  ah, how satisfying it was to flip them open and closed.  Those were the days!

My last phone before I went smart phones was a flip phone...actually my first "smart" phone was a flip phone but it opened on it's side with a full keyboard. Gaming on that thing was odd. I did like flipping the older phone up when making or recieving a call.

I need to make a trip back and pick up #3. I haven't started reading them yet...I'll probably do a marathon session when I do buy the latest issue.

Whoa a comic based on The Situation, guess they really will make a comic on anyone and anything, huh?

Haha yup. Funny thing is I have no idea what the storyline is. It hasn't left the package since I bought it.
