Sunday Funday: The Games I Played This Past Weekend

Another week has started and I’m ready to go…but first I thought I would update you good folks, see what I missed here. Hello Pixlbit, how was your weekend? This time of year I go into hermit mode because the area gets crazy with all the folks who go and enjoy all the live music known as Coachella.

Target knows what’s how to market to the temporary population boost. Because of this, I spent most of the weekend catching up on making progress on the Backlog, both the video games and audiobook versions. Sunday I spent most of the day finishing off a chunk of this book

I do love the audiobooks but the narrator is a bit slow for my tastes so I hit the double speed and he sounds like C-3PO. After a minute you get used to it, and he sounds like his normal narrating voice, just reading a lot faster. As of this blog I am 19 chapters away from finishing, and off to the third book. I’ll probably start this book by the end of the week, but hopefully I can finish it by Wednesday.

So that was my soundtrack to the games I played, but first let me talk a bit about one game I knocked off Mount Backlog

Last week I knocked the single player off the list. I played a level a day, but some plays I went with two levels (which was pushing it and I started to feel the effects of motion sickness). The storyline to the single player was your typical COD storyline, which for me can be described as “casually following what’s going on, while trying to shoot everything on the screen”. The storyline was fine, and as usual over the top, but I can’t complain. The weapons were interesting and some were more enjoyable to use than others…ok they were all fun because it added to shoot everything on the screen.

Ghosts was fun, but most likely I will not try the online mode. Because of not feeling the dizziness after playing one level of this game, I’m going back to play some other FPS games and see if I can play multiple levels before I get dizzy. I want to see if I can increase my tolerance.

What I played

PS3/Vita

MLB 14 The Show: I finished my first year at AAA Albuquerque Isotopes (I had Google open so I wouldn’t misspell “Albuquerque”). I led the league in HR’s and RBI’s. The Dodgers offered me a one-year deal at…AA Chattanooga Lookouts. Yup drop down in talent. Oh well I will just have to go nuts here, but so far the season is starting a little slow with my created Chris hitting .350ish with 4 home runs 10 games into the season.

NBA 2K13: I started a new season with the New Orleans Hornets, but I traded Eric Gordon for DeMar DeRozen, so my starting five would be taller than 6’5”. So far they are 2-0 and I’m going with an uptempo run and gun offense (think Tark’s 90s Running Rebels).

360

Crackdown: I like this game more than Crackdown 2, because of the lack of Zombies. I finished off one island and I am making my way through the second island. My favorite thing to do is run at the gangs and just kicking them. Since I maxed out my fighting, one kick and they are done. I really need to upgrade my fighting with grenades and bombs. I do wish I could find a physical copy of this game.

Medal of Honor Airborne: I tried a bit of this game and wow a half a level and I’m dizzy. I do like that I have to land in an area and then fight my way through the enemy all while the typical MoH music plays in the background.

Android

Asphalt 8: I saw that I haven’t played this game in a bit so I went to check out what I have missed. The game added a new feature that is found in other games that rewards you for playing multiple days. I also bought some cars because the packs they were in dropped 50% to 1-2 dollars each. I had extra credit on my Google Play Account so I used this on these cars. I need to dedicate an extended period of time to playing this game so I can get through the first season.

Aztec Jewels: This game is basically Montezuma Blitz except instead of following a map to advance, you have to hit certain scores to unlock treasure chests on platforms. After you unlock the two or three chests on a platform, you rise to the next platform. It’s like the competition tree you go through in the single player of Mortal Kombat. You can still rent color gods, jewel enhancers, and extra time and each day you get three spins at the slot machine.

Aztec Jewels also lets you play as long as you like, unlike Montezuma Blitz where you have to spend one lightning bolt per play, and you only have seven lightening bolts to start out with, and they regenerate after 10 minutes.

Simpsons Tapped Out: The creators offered up another TV Show tie in with last night’s episode. There was a special decoration from the episode that you unlock after you play two tasks (I think they took maybe 8 hours total). I plopped my new decoration on a sidewalk because I need to make room.

There was also some new decorations for Krustyland which is a rarity.

Family Guy: Quest For Stuff: This is the game I was waiting for because it is a Tapped Out clone with all the humor of Family Guy.

The storyline is Fox’s new headman, who happens to be the Chicken Guy that Peter always fights with, cancels Family Guy. They end up burning down Quahog, and it is your job to rebuild. The tutorial gives you an overview of how to drag the thought bubble tasks to your characters, how to build buildings, and add decorations.

The interesting twist is when you unlock characters you have to perform some tasks to make them playable. Some are really easy, while others take some time and some luck. Your characters also have their own levels. When you advance to the next level you unlock different tasks and I’m assuming new skins. When you do unlock these characters you can check out their FaceSpace pages

This is where you can see their posts, their alternate versions, and other things (I rarely check this)

The game board is split up into districts and you have to clear out a district before you can enter a new one.

The in game currency is earned through tasks, and each building has a tax at different times. I am currently building farming so I can build up the funds to clear up space and move to the next district. There is also a premium currency, which is the clamshell. You can buy these or earn them with upgrading in level.

Family Guy is similar to Simpsons in visiting other users but the one thing I don’t like is that it connects to your Facebook account, which means I can’t add random folks to my playlist unless we are Facebook friends. At least with Tapped Out, it was connected to Origin so I didn’t have to worry about people visiting a page for my friends and family.

I’m going to still play this game, but so far Family Guy is letting me down with this Facebook feature.

This is my current Quahog.

Well Pixlbit, I just finished 29 chapters of A Clash of Kings, I’m ready to start the rest of the day, and at some point sync the final 19 chapters of the book to the iPod. Have a great week!

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

did NBA2k14 come out for Vita?  I'm not sure.  I would like to play that and make my own team.

Nope, I think the only way to play 2K14 is if you have a PS4, you can stream it to the Vita. The Vita is missing a good basketball and hockey games.

I actually liked Ghosts, and I haven't liked a CoD campaign since 4. It was stupid, but I came in expecting that and it delivered in spades. Just thinking about that ending still cracks me up.

I can't remember if I ever finished COD4, but I did make some progress. I did like the various environments in Ghosts. I should go back and try to finish COD4 (heck I wonder if I even own a copy)

Storm of Swords I think. I believe the next book covers Seasons 3 and 4 in the Show's Timeline.

I actually watched the live feed of Anti-Flag's Coachella set the other day. Good stuff. Didn't even need sunscreen, though I could have used some Corona, maybe. Tongue Out

Family Guy sounds fun, but I never liked having to ask Facebook friends to play any game. That always just makes you "that guy."

I just bought Simpsons Season 2 on DVD for about $5 yesterday instead. Laughing

The one good thing about Coachella's first week is that they have three live feed cams on YouTube.

One of the positives about the festival is that when the music fans go home they leave a ton of tents, and camping equipment and that usually gets collected and donated.

Yeah that's the one thing that bothers me about the game. I always bitch about people sending tons of invites to Random-ville game, and I don't want to do that. I'll guess I just have to take a slower route to building up Quahog.

Nice, I believe that's the only season of the Simpsons I ever bought.

All Target had to ad in that isle was a condom stand and it would have its tifecta of Cochella.

Pretty much. I forgot to take a pic of their other display that had a stack of bottled water next to stacks and stacks of beer.

I'm about halfway through A Feast for Crows, haven't been reading it in a while. Need to get back to it.

I still see cars in real life that remind me of the cars in Crackdown. I feel like jumping really far over to them, opening the door, and driving off with them. Oops, I'm not in the game, am I. Sorry officer.

Haha, I tend to get nervous when my character jumps off of the really tall buildings thinking I killed him, but he only has a little shield damage.

I like when my friend boots up Crackdown, that the populous immediately starts screaming in terror. "He was supposed to protect the city" I tell him. Then he laughs maniacally. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
