Well hello good people of Pixlbit Nation! I hear that E3 is done, and I’ve checked out some blogs here about it. There are lots of interesting points of view, and I dig all the excitement surrounding your favorite titles. As for myself, I stuck with my usual “Let’s watch Sony” press conference and then I was good for the show. You’ll read about more of my thoughts later on, but since it is Friday, it is time for another edition of Quick Hits! For today I want to discuss my thoughts about the Sony Presser, some spoiler thoughts on tv shows Game of Thrones, Hells Kitchen, and The Challenge, as well as my usual pickups (hint I found a local spot that sells classic plastic). Sit back, enjoy and get ready for the weekend!

Chris’ E3 Thoughts

Since I only watch Sony (90% of my console play time is on a Sony device) I wanted to see what new stuff they were offering. Good to see Meredith Molinari is still running the pre-game stuff. They should retool The Tester and bring her back. Anyways as for the actual presentation, I usually like to tweet during the conference, and I think my thoughts were a bit snarky. First off do we really need more Zombie games? Isn’t this topic played out? There needs to be a Jumping The Shark moment with either Sim City Zombie Edition, or have Zombies show up in Pokemon. I also didn’t care about the Sony Streaming Service. I didn’t care about this service when it was called The Sega Channel

Remember when this was offered?

I do want one of these. Heck I’m down to preordering one if GameStop is going to go that route. I like this little piece of tech when it debuted last year, and finally it is coming here. The funny thing is that it is built for Sony’s Streaming Service, but I want it more for playing my Vita games. I do have a couple of console ports but games like Asphalt, Batman Blackgate, and the funky Lego ports would be fun on my TV. I forgot to mention that Sony is going to produce some original content…bring back The Tester with Meredith Molinari!

It looks like I will be eyeing the new white PS4.

If I do get a PS4 soon, it might be that one. If not the black one is fine.

I don’t care about Sony’s Project Morpheous. It ranks up there with the Move for me. The technology is cool, but until the screen I’m looking at looks like the Iron Man HUD, or The Terminator during a game, I’m going to pass.

As for games I think Entwined looks like fun, and I can’t wait to try it out when it becomes a PS+ freebie. Little Big Planet 3 looks like LBP with new characters. I’ll pick it up when it hits $20, and Sony got sneaky with a quick trailer of Uncharted at the end. I’d like to see some gameplay, but it was nice to see that series get another sequel.

Overall Sony was solid. I’m not going to say they were the best especially since I didn’t see any other presentations, but there was a good lineup of both games and products that will be available soon.

Chris and his TV Shows

Game of Thrones

Tell me how good last episode was? I think it was every bit as good as The Blackwater episode from Season 2, and damn I actually liked Alliser Throne in this episode. Oh the scene where Ollie gives Jon the head nod after putting an arrow in Ygritte I went from OH SNAP, to LOL. The memes on Reddit were classic. I can’t wait for the season finale, and how they teased whats going to happen. *coughs and goes into book guy mode: I read what happens and I still can’t wait. Such a freaking good show!

Hell’s Kitchen

In another episode of people who can’t cook, I enjoyed this episode. Spoiler section: THANK GOODNESS ANTON and his giant ego are gone. Good grief that guy was annoying. He F’s up, blames someone else, blames the stove. THE STOVE! You know what they say about workman blaming their tools. The worst part was he was going after Chef Ramsay’s Sous Chef. Yeah she’s not the one on a reality show trying to earn a spot on Ramsay’s staff. Once again just boot the guys and have a cook off with the women.

The Challenge

The Challenge was good and it seems they got another storyline that everyone wanted in Laurel vs Cara Maria. The drawback is that Cara Maria has a broken hand. The funny scene was Bananas once again trying to make CT sweat with his “Why should we save you” talk and CT wanted none of it. It was a fear move not going after Zack who voted for Bananas. This was still in his head

Easily the greatest thing I ever saw in the Challenge. A close second would be the Choo Choo episode where CT blows up Tyler. Once again Bill Simmons’ 5th Professional Sport

Saw this on Reddit, Mind.Blown.

No idea they was the same person

Pickups

Games

So apparently there is a retro game store here. Actually it’s a console repair shop who started selling games, and my cousin and I went to check it out. There was a lot of classic plastic and best part was that the prices were reasonable. Everything from Atari, to N64 and some of the disc based stuff as well. There was a Sega Saturn for $80, which might be a little pricey, but it’s a local shop and the owners were really laid back. I spent a bit looking through games, getting flashbacks before settling on a couple of games for about $22

I replaced the Knight Rider cart I lost growing up. Remember this game? You are inside KITT and you can jump over cars, as well as shoot them or use turbo boost? This game is probably nowhere near as good as I remember it, but for 12 year old Chris, it was the S**T!

I also bought a couple of Gameboy games

Play Action Football is one of the first games I ever played on the Gameboy, riding the bus to High School my first or second year. (I bought a Gameboy off my friend so I had something to play instead of bringing my Game Gear. The Game Gear was for when the band would travel to away football games).

These games aren't not hard to find, but they hold a ton of nostalgia for me.

After this little trip it was off to GameStop where I added another Guitar Hero game to the collection

My big 96 cent purchase.

A couple of Toys R Us 70% off finds. I didn’t see Sim Creator the last couple of times I looked through the games, and since I was already there I might as well pickup Again since I always pass it up.

I went through a bit of a Nintendo Streak that day. Speaking of Nintendo did any of you 3DS/ 3DS XL folks get this Mii in your plaza earlier this week?

How do I get that squid hat?

At Best Buy I had to use a $5 Reward that was expiring so I bought this game for $1

It seems interesting, I’ll check it out next week

I also bought a physical copy of Sleeping Dogs

From Best Buy because it was on clearance, and found X-Men at Toys R Us for $8.

From Club Nintendo I bought Kriby’s Dreamland for 150 coins.

I think I’m on a Gameboy kick right now.

The final game pickup of the week is through Amazon apps for 699 coins

This will make my 5 year old cousin happy because he kept trying to get me to buy Mindcraft on my laptop, PS3, and X-Box. He kept telling me that it is a good game, and I should play it (I think he wanted me to buy it so he could play it). I bought it, tried out a little bit and I have no idea what I’m doing, but if a 5 year old can place goats on the roof of a house, and I can build something.

Music

Apparently Best Buy added a new $5.99 section of CDs that is all stuff I grew up with. This is easily a gold mine of stuff and I will be hitting Best Buy more often. While I was buying my games I spotted some albums I wanted to add to the library

Cypress Hill! This was big when I was growing up.

These two albums I listened to a lot of when I was the Super Sub and self proclaimed 4th Grade Kickball Champion (If you want to feel like LeBron/MJ/Megatron/ and Tom Brady rolled into one, play kickball against 4th graders). I think this was around the time I had a mini disc player.

I watched a ton of The History of the Eagles on Showtime and they always talk about Linda Ronstadt.

I spotted these in the bargain bin at Walmart, and there are a lot of songs I remember my parents playing.

Final CD is from Toys R Us for $2.

Holy cow they don’t lie when they call this album Naptime Melodies. I was dozing off while listening to it.

Random

Toys R Us sent me an e-mail about their new preorder

If they let me preorder the game, the extra story pack and all the available characters, I will buy it from them. Since they said my file carries over, I am going with the PS3 version.

Well Pixlbit, today is my Weekend, and I want to enjoy some 3DS Crossword goodness. I just unlocked the Hard Mode which is a bit tough but a lot of fun. Mix in a couple of Wordsearches and BOOM there goes an hour. Oh before I go

GO KAWHI GO! #GoAztecs

That’s all for now, more later!

I haven't seen the Heat shut down like that since their 2011 series against the Mavs.

I guess Texas teams just aren't intimidated by heat.

The Heat got taken apart! I know a lot of folks like to make fun of them, but to their credit they did go to four straight Finals which is a heck of a feat. I think there is going to be more competition next season in the East.

Yeah, as a Mavs fan that witnessed the 06' Finals, I should hate the Heat more than I do, but eh, LeBron is more mature now and they have accomplished a lot. My friend being a Heat fan made me stop hating them so much mostly.

As for this year's Finals though ... you gotta admit, the series with Spurs and Mavs would have made for a better Finals series. What we actually got became boring quick. I was even rooting for Miami that first quarter of Game 5 the way I rooted for Denver to make it kind of interesting at this year's Superbowl. No dice. Frown

Dude that Spurs/Mavs series was great! I watched more of that than the actual Finals. Heck I think the Mavs this year could have beaten the Heat.

God, I wish. I'm hoping for next year, I think Dirk deserves more than one ring, but then I'm biased and he does have that Top 10 scorers of all time thing going regardless.

Although repetitive,  xmen Destiny isnt a complete bomb. You can get a full playthrough completed in under 6 hours easy. Always a plus for bargains

Yeah I heard it wasn't very good, but I was willing to try it if it hit $10 and I found it for a bit cheaper. Can't go wrong.

looks like you're going to be listening to a lot of Linda Ronstadt.

Haha yup, so far a couple of songs have made it on to the iPod so there is going to be some Ronstadt representation.

I totally forgot about PS Vita TV. Haven't heard a peep about it since it was announced.

I can't wait for it to be released, mainly for the Vita gaming. My new problem is going to be looking for an HDMI switcher.

The PSTV looks nifty. I predict it'll do very well, given that it has the whole PS library over other microsonsoles and systems like Apple TV or Amazon Fire TV.

I think against those streaming services it could do well. The trick is to get folks to buy into the Sony Ecosystem. If the service is at a reasonable price I could see some Apple TV/Amazon Fire owners buying into the service.

Man, I wish our Gamestop had games that cheap. I'd be snapping up DS games left and right!

Check the main counter at your store. The couple of GameStops I've been to have their DS (and some PSP) games in bargain bins, where the majority of the games are under $5. Can't go wrong

I certainly wouldn't mind getting a PSTV, the price seems reasonable enough and would still leave me with a little cash to pick up a game to play on it.

Right? I think its at the right price point to get people who are on the fence about it, to give it try.
