Well happy Monday to you good people of the land Pixlbit! I’m currently writing this blog on Sunday because I will most likely be sitting in a waiting room, taking advantage of the free Wifi while waiting for an oil change. Sounds fun doesn’t it? The positive it that it will be in good ol’ fashion air conditioning because my section of sunny Southern California will be in the 110s.

This past weekend I had one goal, and that was to finish the story mode of this game

This was the game I bought when I bought my 3DS XL, and it was time I took it off Mount Backlog.

**There might be some semi-spoilers so read at your own risk**

I’ve been on World 5 for a while now, and since I had a free weekend, why not tackle the final worlds, and see what I have been missing. I think the last Super Mario game I completed was SMB3 on a PSP emulator (relax folks I own the game). I think the reason why I didn’t finish SM3DL was because some parts of the 3D world would throw me off and I found myself jumping off platforms and what not. This weekend, I was going to play through these things, discover what I was missing, and maybe get back into the Mario Universe.

Apparently I didn’t need the whole weekend as I spent part of Friday night, and Saturday finishing off the rest of the game. I took down World’s 5 and 6, on Friday night, and 7 and 8 were on Saturday. I took a ton of breaks including visiting the bank, buying a pair of sneakers, and roaming around to collect some Mii’s for my Mii Plaza. I do like how Nintendo has “Take a break” notifications, and I followed a couple of them.

The one thing I really enjoyed about the final World was that it transported me back to when I first played the Super Mario games. Sweaty palms, yelling at the screen to watch out, and jump, and that sense of accomplishment when I finally rescued the princess. The nods to previous games were a nice touch. Seeing updated versions of some levels were a lot of fun, and having what I called “bizarro world” that you can only get to after completing the storyline.

This was my favorite thing in the original Super Mario Bros, where they would change the type of enemies and made it a bit harder after playing through the original game, and then starting a new game.

I liked this game. Tons of fun, and I like having to search for the special coins. Find enough coins and I got to unlock certain portions of the Worlds like boss battles. I have to admit some coins I had no idea where they were located so I turned to Google. Another feature is what my friend called “The Pity Suit.” If you die a number of times in a given level, a special brick appears where you get this leaf, and become the raccoon Super Mario (I have no idea what this version is called), but he is invincible so you just roll through level like its no big deal. I have no problem in saying that I am perfectly okay with the Pity Suit. It saved me from using a lot of choice words.

Another cool feature is the gifts from the Mii folks. When I started looking to find Mii’s I would always get these messages about a gift from Mii’s but I never looked into it. Turns out these good folks give nice power-ups.

Super Mario 3D Land is a lot of fun, is challenging, and has the charm of the previous SMB games. I’m currently looking for the missing coins, and I can’t wait to tackle another Mario Brother’s game.

Quick Gaming Items

This was a freebie game of the week on iTunes, so I thought I’d give it a spin. I haven’t jumped into it because of Super Mario Weekend, but I did play the intro level, and I am saving the next level for when I sit in Oil Change waiting room.

So far the swipe controls are not bad, and actually they are quite responsive. The graphics are not bad, and a bonus, it doesn’t have that artsy problem I have with NFS Shift.

C’mon Fairway Solitaire, step your messages up.

Sunday morning after watching portions of LA Confidential, I decided to start up my Playstation Move game. I charged up the controllers last night, and when I went to set it up on the screen, for some reason the Move didn’t power up, and the controller part was the same. I decided to plug it into the PS3, and the Move wand finally worked. I unplugged it, and it worked fine so I jumped into Carnival Island.

The mini games are fun, because they are games you would find in a carnival. The one game I spent the most time with is this one

Yup Skee Ball. I spent a good half hour just playing this version. There were different adaptations you can unlock and play after you meet two or more challenges. The overall game itself is fun. There isn’t too much to the story mode and I could see this being a really enjoyable party game.

Well Pixlbit I must end this blog because my iPod is charged, and synced, and ready to be listened to. I added a couple of new podcasts to try them out, and I’m trying something new with the music. I took out songs I really don’t want to listen to all the time, and I’m going to try and keep the music on shuffle so I don’t have a top heavy playlist on my iTunes. Anyways that way too much iPod talk. Have a good one Pixlbit, I’ll get to your blogs this week, and I decided to try out an online class. I hope there is nobody getting their oil changed so I'll be done within a half hour. Sounds like fun doesn’t it?

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

I liked Super Mario 3D land.  A lot of people were disappointed in it, but I thought it was cool for a handheld game, honestly.  It was fun, little bite sized mario levels.  I wish 3D World had been more expansive though.

Has it really been that hot in Cali?  That's hotter than it's been here in Arizona.

Really? I thought it was good, a little different because some parts I missed jumps here and there, but overall it still delivered the same fun as previous Mario games I've played (I stopped really playing them on the SNES)

Oh California is hot...but we just past that point where it was goes from Hot, than Humid, to under triple digits, and now we are hitting 110+. This should go on until the middle of Sept, which sucks.

Ugh today is supposed to be one of the hottest days of the year hitting 117 which means the rural areas is going to hover around 120. Crazy I tell ya.

yeah it's been hot here, 112 yesterday.  but the humidity has been way down.  but that hot wind, man I hate it.  It did rain yesterday evening though and that was nice, but didn't cool things down much

Super Mario 3-D Land is a great game.  I like how it's easy enough for Mario novices to beat, but the second set of levels opens up to challenge Mario experts.  Have you tried Super Mario 3-D World on Wii U?

I haven't touched a WiiU yet. I thought about buying one a couple of times especially with it having Lego Undercover.

It's such a good game, and easy to collect at least 100 lives, plus the "pity suit" helps, I used it a couple of times.

I really should have cheated at skee ball at Chuck E. Cheese's when I was a kid to get tickets. At the time, I didn't, because I was and still am against cheating/stealing. As an adult however, I now realize those bastards were stealing from me with their high ticket prices.

My son gets pissed when he sees kids cheating at skee ball.

And I get pissed when I see Chuck E. Cheese cheating your son. How many tickets for an eraser head? You must be out of your damn mind!

On a serious note, I would have been pissed too.

I used to think the same thing, why didn't I stand on the ramp and just place the balls in the high point pockets. I think the last actual time I played real skee-ball was at a Chuck E. Cheese, and man oh man they get you on tickets.

I still haven't beaten the very last level in 3D Land (even after dying dozens of times), I need to rectify that.

You gotta finish it! I had the use of the "pity suit" because I also went through around a dozen lives.
