Good Monday morning World of Pixlbit, how was your weekend? I hope everything is going well for you good people, and there was lots of relaxation and some game playing. On my side of the internets there was some gaming but I would like to talk about a couple of new games (I know some of you are like “Hell Yeah no Simpsons Tapped Out”) that I’ve been playing, as well as a Demo. Sound like fun? Yeah it does.

Destiny – PS3

So this was the big game to be released last week, and I got caught up in the hype and pre-ordered it, and then promptly forgot about it. I’ve had a couple of days to play it and I do have some thoughts about the game, some good, some meh, but nothing really negative about a game I wouldn’t normally get if it wasn’t for me being hooked on Borderlands 2 on the Vita.

Hey that’s virtua Chris

I’m glad I didn’t play a lot of the Beta because my ranking didn’t transfer, and I didn’t get burned out on the game. As you can see I haven’t leveled up as much as the folks online. There are some positives about this game that I really enjoyed (without story spoilers of course)

-       I found that I don’t get as dizzy as I did before with other FPS games. Maybe I’m getting used to them, or maybe I’m having so much fun I don’t want to throw up. Either way I think I’m getting my money’s worth out of Destiny.

-       The graphics are nice. I like to think of it as a pretty Borderlands

-       I do like hitting various goals so I can unlock goodies. I think this is the one thing that got me into Borderlands was that I could get better weapons, armor, and other things

-       I like punching aliens in the face. Have guns is fun, but there is something satisfying about swinging at an alien

-       I like the Destiny App (on iOS and Android) where you get all your stats and I took some screen shots

-       I do like that you don’t unlock the multiplayer right away. The game forces you to try out the “story” mode before going 6 vs. 6

What the hell Destiny?

With some positives of course there are some “meh” points in the game (again no spoilers)

-       There are some points when it becomes a full on unloading of ammo to taking down folks. It’s not really a bad thing but sometimes you just want to slug some aliens in the face

-       During one of my earlier missions I was hit with that disconnected screen. I was at the point when I was about to finish off a level…and then booted. I’m also not a fan that I have to be connected to Internet at all times to play this game.

-       The game gets repetitive.

-       I wish it had more sandbox elements…just like Borderlands. I’d like to roam around and enjoy the environment.

-       I seem to compare this game a lot to Borderlands. I still have Borderlands on the brain.

So I tried out the multiplayer. I was lured there because of promises of earning points or something for upgraded armor, and other goodies. And for the next couple of minutes I proceeded to have my ass handed to me by folks who are really good.

I think I got one kill (you suck whoever you are) and I captured a couple of bases. Other than that it was bad

Ok I wasn’t this bad, but at times I would spawn, take two steps, and BAM! Done. Of course to my defense I was the lowest level player and Chris goes into Pro Athlete Mode: “It wasn’t our day, I tip my cap to the other team, they had an answer for everything we did, I just have to put this game behind me and look forward to the next game.”

I like Destiny, and since I move at a slower pace than everyone else, I’ll probably finish the story in a month or so.

Topps Huddle – iOS

I started playing this game while in Hawai’i because it had the fun elements of Fantasy Football without me stressing over who’s playing that week. Huddle combines trading cards with the Fantasy stats that everyone loves…and hates.

You start off with a pack of cards and from there you pick the best 11 players for your team. The better the players do, the more coins you earn, and you can spend those coins on more packs of cards.

There are usually different packs of cards here that range in price from 500-8,000 coins. Since this is a Freemium game, you can also purchase coins if you don’t have the patience. There are daily bonuses for checking on your team of 1,000 coins, and there are videos to watch to earn additional coins.

There is an in app message board which you can talk about strategy, and if some don’t want to use the trade screen, they go here and offer their duplicates. I haven’t traded anything yet because this game isn’t that serious to me.

Topps Huddle scratches the Fantasy itch that I have while giving me a casual card collecting game that I don’t have to spend a dime on. You can’t go wrong when a game is fun and free.

Spider-man Unlimited – iOS &Android

As you know I do like tablet runners and I found a new one to try out, and got hooked on. Spider-man Unlimited combines the two types of tablet runners into one, and throws in the Marvel license for good measure. To control Spider-man you swipe to move him to one of three lanes, with the usual ducking, jumping, and swiping up to hit enemies, but when you are on the sides of buildings, the controls switch to the tilt controls that are seen in Temple Run games. Add to this is portions of the course when Spider-man swings on webs, and the fun really begins.

There are three different game modes: Story Mode, Free Run, and Community Events. Story Mode takes place in a comic book form where you have to take down various enemies. Each enemy is it’s own comic book, where you go point to point. Free Run is your typical runner game where you avoid obstacles and collect items, and Community Events is a like Free Run but you compete with everyone playing the game to earn goodies like special characters, and other collectables

I finished in the Top 100 and got some free canisters!

The canisters are the in game currency where you can spend them on unlocking new versions of Spider-man, upgrading abilities, and Leveling Up characters. What’s fun about this is seeing the different versions of Spider-man, each has their own special abilities and are more useful in some games.

Since this is a Freemium game, you have five lives to start out with and once those lives are used, you have to wait until they recharge. Also there are special premium currency you can either collect in game (it’s rare to see) or buy

There’s no way I’m buying these things!

Spider-man Unlimited is a fun, good running game. It’s a lot more interesting than the Batman/Flash game I was playing a while ago.

Super Smash Bros. Demo – 3DS

Apparently since I hit Platinum I got the invite to play the demo of this game early (I have two codes so if you want them let me know). My understanding of this game is this: you button mash the hell out of your character against another character and hope to win. There’s probably more to these games, but that’s what it feels like to me. I dig it, and I might pick it up when it’s released, heck I bought the Playstation version and that one was just ok.

Alright Pixlbit I must be off, I have a couple of lives on Spider-man I need to burn through and improve on my World Ranking for the next Community Event.

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

The web slingling portions are easily my favorite part of the game. I wish there was more of it.

A Spider-Man game should be one of the first things done with Oculus Rift technology.

Hell yeah...except I could see folks like me getting motion sickness. I would still try it just so I could do some web slinging.

I'm interested in Destiny, and it seems fun, but not new system fun, not for me, not yet. I'll pick it up eventually I guess.

I dig it, but I bought the last gen version. I do need to start playing it again, I stopped the past couple of days. I need to find a good chunk of time to devote to it.

My friend at work shows me his Destiny phone character every day. Spider-Man Unlimited looks pretty cool.

I dig games that use phone apps. It adds another level to the game. I had fun using the GTA V app, and I should check the Destiny app more often. There's always messages from a clan I'm either in or following.

One day I'll upgrade my iPod Touch and get in on this stuff.
