Happy Tuesday Pixlbit. Today I thought I would go over the Playstation 3. I like my PS3, and even though I had problems with the original version, the second version I am using is a trooper. I think I got into the PS3 maybe a year or two after its release and I got to see it go from box that offered Linux, to no longer offering it, and to adding trophies. I wish I could say it was the first console I bought digital games for, but I think that goes to the PSP when I was buying Minis and DLC for Rockband. Anyways I do love this system, I still play it (I think I play it more than the PS4) and since GameStop is starting to blow out the games, the PS3 library might grow a lot more this year.

I’m not much into hunting games but I decided to give these a try because they came with gun controllers, and they were $20 each. The first Big Game Hunter I bought turned out to be used which Target apologized for when I went to return it to get a new one. Apparently one store never checked it. The second game is a story game so when you are not hunting or defending yourself you use the gun as a controller. A little odd but it wasn’t too bad.

This workout game kicked my butt after one workout and I haven’t used it since. It doesn’t use the camera so you strap one device on your leg, and the other on your arm and you play some crazy mini games like hit step in-place jogging, and when you are doing crunches and you don’t do them right, the virtual lady gets angry at you. The positive to all this shame is at least you can earn trophies.

I’m not a fan of video game statues because they take up space, but this was a cool set to have because it came with a bunch of DLC, an art book, Arkham City, and a statue I’ve taken out one just to check it out and then put it back in the box. The base is sturdy with a pull out drawer filled with cards with DLC codes on them. One day I’ll finish the game.

Fantastic Four: It plays like X-Men Legends except you can only choose one of the Fantastic Four. It wasn’t a bad game but if you like a variety in character this game isn’t for you. Prince of Persia: This is the only PoP game I ever finished and it isn’t a bad game based off a movie. One of the few trophies I have yet to unlock are smash every pot in the game, and there is no way I’m going back into the game to do that. NFS Most Wanted: This was the game I absolutely loved on the tablet, the Vita, and the PS3. I can’t remember if I bought it on the 360 as well. After playing it on the Vita and tablet, when I first popped in the game I already had the option of racing each of the Top 10 Most Wanted Racers. The one thing I didn’t care for was that a lot of this game is built around DLC that would normally be free on the Vita. I’m not paying money for exotic cars especially when they are free on other versions of the game. Modern Warefare 2: Collector’s Edition: I actually bought the regular version, but the employee at GameStop couldn’t find the regular case so she gave me the CE version in place of it. The only that is missing is the DLC code for an older COD game. Kung Fu Panda 2: Just like Prince of Persia, I thought it wasn’t a bad movie tie-in game but and one trophy is holding me back from getting a platinum is collecting every coin in the game. Yeah not gonna happen. Just Cause 2: One of the early PS3 games I played and absolutely loved it. Running around an island with a parachute, causing havoc, and trying to liberate the island was a lot of fun. Its just like Grand Theft Auto except with more explosions and a crazy base in the sky.

Batman Arkham Origins: I bought this game as a companion to the Vita version. I’m currently stuck on the Vita version and with this version I stopped playing it for a bit to get back into baseball. MLB The Show 14: My favorite baseball game. I had a lot of fun bringing Video Game Chris through the Dodgers farm system (I was drafted by the Dodgers so it wasn’t my choice) and becoming the MVP/Triple Crown/World Series Champion. I can’t wait for free agency to leave the Dodgers because I feel I was screwed in my current contract. Lego Batman 3: I bought the season pass for this game so I am still playing it. I believe the final DLC is the Suicide Squad, which I know who they are thanks to Arrow *ducks from things being thrown. Everything from the Retro Batman to all the new Batman characters make this game a lot of fun.

Shaun White Snowboarding: It’s a silly snowboarding game with off the wall environments. Think Tony Hawk in the snow. Prototype: As odd as this game originally sounded I actually enjoyed it. Having this mutation that changes your body made this game a good superhero game…if the main character was a superhero. Call of Juarez: I bought this from Sears for like a couple of bucks and my brother and I played through the entire thing one night. I think we started at 8 or 9, and finished the game around 3am.

NBA Live 10: Why couldn’t NBA Live 14 just be this game with improved graphics and new roster? I had so much fun playing arcade basketball with this game. Split/Second: this was an interesting racer because you can change the course by blowing up parts of the environment. You collect power ups that you can use to detonate explosives on the course to take out opponents or to open up alternate portions of the course. Def Jam Rapstar: Yeah so I lived out my short-lived dream of being a rapper. A couple of the songs in the game I have never heard of before *cough Drake, so those were a bit rough. The 90s stuff I killed. I should go back and finish this game.

Tony Hawk Ride: Yeah I know this game was supposed to be terrible but I bought it anyways and it was actually a lot of fun. The skate deck controller was actually responsive and it was a lot of body movement to earn points. The funniest thing to see is a 4 year old play it and get a higher score than his 7 year old brother. Blood Stone: This could be my favorite Bond Game because it tries to take that Uncharted vibe but place it in the Bond Universe. You play through a number of levels inspired by Bond flicks. I think one level I never fired my weapon. It was all sneak around and break necks.

Tron: I never sat down and watched the full movie, but I liked the game. It was a bit cheesy at times but the light cycles were the best thing about this game. NASCAR Unleashed: Finally an arcade NASCAR game I liked. It’s been a while since I played it but you can pick your favorite NASCAR driver and have them crash opponents, use power ups, and try to win races. You know like every other Arcade racer/Mariokart clone. NBA Live 09: For a while this was my go to basketball game. I want to say my team for this game was the Golden State Warriors because they still offered this jersey created by a fan in a contest as an alternate jersey. I do remember that the Oklahoma City team didn’t have a real jersey so you could use this generic practice jersey or old Sonics gear. Oh come to think of it now I think I used the Bulls.

Little League World Series: This is actually a fun baseball game. You try and load the bases up for the one kid who has power and hopefully it intimidates the pitcher enough that he gives up a Grand Slam. I won the LLWS with a West Coast team, and I think I left off in the short season with the Philippines. Brutal Legend: I’m not a fan of Jack Black but I enjoyed this fantasy Rock world where your weapon is a guitar and you fight the bad guy by having a concert. Uncharted 2 GOTY: This was my first taste of the Uncharted World and it was freaking awesome. I did call it Boy Tomb Raider and always wondered how good Tomb Raider could be if it played like this game.

Dante’s Inferno: In the beginning I kinda dug this game. God of War meets The Crusades to save his wife sounded interesting but as the game went on, I started to get bored especially towards the end. The concept was interesting but I got tired of it. Cars: This was my first platinum trophy. I liked the movie, and the racing is a lot of fun in this game. It isn’t really difficult and you could earn everything you needed in one or two runs. Shaun White Skateboarding: Just like his snowboard game, it is a silly skateboard game that is a lot easier than Tony Hawk. I think I finished this game within a couple of weeks. CSI: This is an interesting game because I never really played a point and click game. You have three cases in the game, and you investigate how various crime scenes. I think there was three places to investigate in the first case. You have to look through everything, take things back to the lab to run tests, and if you get stuck you can always talk to Willows. For you trophy folks, after finishing my first case I already earned 49% of the trophies.

God of War Saga: Yes I loved the series so much I bought the games I already owned again. The one drawback was that the PSP games were Downloadable, which sucks. Also I forgot to mention I am missing my two God of War games because I lent them to my friend. inFamous 2: I had no idea I owned this game until I was playing inFamous on the PS4. I started playing this game last month and I really need to get back to it. Green Lantern: Yeah I don’t know why I bought this game, or why I played through it The movie was terrible, the game wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great. The fun thing was unlocking abilities and using them on bosses. God of War Origins Collection: These are the PSP games. I didn’t have to use the Download codes form Saga.

Sleeping Dogs: I think I made it through half of this game before stopping. I got tired of it, and I don’t get why it was remade for the PS4. Carnival Island: All I play on this game is Skee Ball. Once I unlocked that I stopped playing the story mode.

NFS Pro Street: I think this was the first PS3 game I bought. It was a Target clearance game and when I used to do my morning walks, they always ended at the Electronics Section of Target. I paid $7 for this and I played through the entire game. There was a lot of variety in the races, everything from Drag, to drift, to straight up racing was in this game. It was kind of like Forza Horizon but without the sandbox stuff. NFS Shift: I loved this game especially when I realized I could use the behind the car mode. uDraw: It is a shame there wasn’t more games made for the uDraw tablet. The other two games tried to make story driven games by swiping to kill enemies, or break barriers. CoD MW3: This game came with my second PS3. I want to say I finished it, but I can’t remember.

Mortal Kombat vs DC: I was so excited when this game was announced because I could perform Fatalities on superheroes. Well that didn’t happen but it was a fighting game between the MK universe and the DC universe so it had that going.

Mafia II: I liked this game but I wish you were able to play more of it after you completed the story. I found zero replay value in the game, which is sad because I thought it wasn’t bad. Midnight Club LA Complete Edition: I sunk a lot of time into playing this game. Because of this game I rarely got lost in GTA V, because its basically the same map. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: One of my early pickups from Target Clearance aisle, I really enjoyed this game. I played through it just to experience both storylines (the game splits because of the Civil War). If I had known this game was hard to find, I would have bought all the clearance copies. Dead Space: This game is freaking awesome, even with the little freaky things that pop up. Yep I had a rule where I would only play this game in the daytime. No shame.

Motor Storm: This might have been the first PS3 game I bought on Clearance. My old morning walks got expensive especially if they always ended up in the Electronic Section at Target. I liked this game but once you hit Race 7 it got crazy difficult. I wonder if I went back today and played it I would have the same view about it.

Disney Infinity: Yes I got sucked into that Universe for a little bit, and I really shouldn’t have been surprised to find that the game needed a major patch because it was released as a broken game. Out of the three games, two of them were solid, and Monsters University was a throw in. My cousins loved this game and because of them I spent a lot of time in the toy box just making crazy worlds. Injustice: I liked this game even if the fighting was simplified a bit. I think I own this on the PS3, PS4, Vita, and tablets. I wish the Vita was connected to the other games because I made a lot of progress in the tablet version. Fast & Furious: Yeah I love the movie franchise that much to buy this game. It isn’t a great game but I couldn’t say no to dragging a safe. I wish the game was more similar to a real story mode instead of budget title races.

F1 Race Stars: Mariokart meets F1. The racing isn’t bad but I’m not familiar with the racers and I wasn’t too happy with the art style. Tomb Raider: Girl Uncharted! I’m fighting the urge to buy this on PS4 and play it on there. This is such a good game, and its worth a play.

The final games of my PS3 library are football games (of course.) Nothing really fancy here, the Madden XX is missing the plastic slip but both Madden and NFL Head Coach are there.

Alright Pixlbit, I must be off, hope you all enjoyed my PS3 library. Have a good Tuesday!

That’s all for now, more tomorrow!

-Chris

So, my PS3 collection is quite small.  When I decided not to replace my console when I got the awful little yellow light I cleared house, save for a few of my favourite games.  Just in case I ever find myself in possession of a PS3.  So, my collection consists of the Ratchet and Clank games, Resistance and the Jak and Daxter Collection.

Hate that yellow light. I lost my cool Leap Year game saves because I never uploaded them to PS+. This is the right time to start picking up any PS3 exclusives because places like GameStop are starting to get rid of them.

Yeah, I'm honestly thinking about buying the Remaster of Tomb Raider for PS4 even though I have a very good copy of the original on Steam.

I'm trying to tell myself that all the DLC it comes with is worth it, plus I get to use my swanky PS4.

I got my PS3 a few years after it was released, mainly so I could have a Blu-Ray player in the living room (and it was only 50 bucks more than a regular Blu-Ray player).  One game that I enjoyed on it that I don't see on your list is 3-D Dot Game Heroes.  It's really good, and probably the closest thing to a LEGO Zelda that we'll ever get.

I've been on the fence about that game. I want to try it but I was never a fan of the Zelda games.

I've always wanted to play Split/Second, mainly because I liked the developer's previous game Pure.

Its a good fast paced racer. If you find it for under $10 give it a try.
