What Chris Has Been Playing, And Thoughts On AG Drive

Well good morning good people of the Pixlbit Nation, how are you on this March 2nd? Currently in my portion of what is usually sunny Southern California, it rained all day yesterday and it could rain again today. Right now the sun is out, and it is a little cool but nothing-normal folks can’t handle. So as I finished my Quick Hits blog on Friday I went to charge my laptop and it finally happened, the adaptor gave out and it wouldn’t go past 17% charge. This sucked because I needed to sync and charge my iPod full of the latest podcasts and changes to playlists so after a trip to the Best Buy and $80 later

I wish there was a Rocketfish or other 3rd party version available because when my PC laptop’s adaptor died that thing cost $50 because it was a Rocketfish product. The worst part about the deal was that there were no stickers. C’mon Apple, iPhone, iPod, and Macbook’s come with stickers, you couldn’t throw some into the adaptor box?

I’m about two weeks behind on my what I am playing updates and since it is the start of a new month, I should update on my gaming goal of knocking out games from Mount Backlog

In the month of February, out of the six games I started, I completed two of them, one of them was the newest DLC for Lego Batman 3. I’m slowly chugging away at Asphalt 2, and made some progress on inFamous First Light. I think I am around 30% through on that game. Here’s to March being productive as I have a couple of games I think I am close to finishing.

What Chris Is Playing…

NBA 2K14 – PS4

The Super Knicks were hit with the injury bug hard, and once Iman Shumpert and Tim Hardaway Jr. returned, JR Smith went down with a high ankle sprain. I decided to make a couple of moves before the All-Star break and add some scoring punch off the bench

I traded for two San Diego State Aztecs to fill this role. Malcolm Thomas already joined the team and kicked in 10 points and I think Jamaal will be on the roster for the next home game.

Jamaal did this during a conference game and one summer he lost a tooth when he hit the rim. Yeah I think I found the scoring I needed.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance – 360

So looking at my game save it appeared that I haven’t touched this game in over a year so it was time to make up for that lost time, and I think I am close to the end of the game. We just changed bases and judging by how the story is going I am close to the big showdown with the main boss. I really like the cut scenes for the game. The developers did a good job moving the story along and the quality of the animation is excellent. If there was a movie that looked like those cut scenes I would watch.

inFamous First Light – PS4

Like I said earlier I think I am around the 30% point in the game but that includes finishing all the races, and neon graffiti. While playing Second Son I wasn’t too thrilled about the Neon power, but after playing this game, my opinion changed and I now I like it. I really don’t want to jump back into Second Son right now, because I want to see how this storyline plays out.

Who knew these were in Seattle too? I always find it fun to spot landmarks or something similar to things around your area in video games. Grand Theft Auto V was notorious for this.

Spider-man Unlimited – iPad

This was a cool feature to see on Chinese New Year. I didn’t get to unlock Scarlet Spider but I got a bunch of other stuff. The one thing I can complain about this game is that when I take advantage of the half off Premium Portal sale I always get the same Legendary Spider-man. I maxed out three of them to six stars and the fourth I have at four stars. If there is a weekly challenge that assigns bonuses to that version of Spider-man I am going to make a killing.

Simpsons Tapped Out – iPad

This month on the Simpsons, the community game is comic book based. The storyline is that Milhouse wants to get Lisa’s attention so he dresses as Fallout Boy (remember the episode where he gets the role for the Radioactive Man movie?) and well Springfield becomes a comic book when Radio Active man gets killed because the real Fallout Boy pushes a button and blows up one of the houses in your Springfield. The usual stuff happens where you visit your friend’s Springfield’s and report crime. They in turn collect whichever items they need to unlock in game fun stuff. I’m like seven thousand exploding pies away from unlocking Comic Book Guy’s superhero persona. It is going on for the rest of the month and I need to jump back into it after not checking my game over the weekend.

Also here are what some of the characters look like

WWE Immortals – iPad

I think I have hit a wall in playing this game. After maxing out my starting three and kicking everyone’s behind, I am at a point where I need to start grinding all over again to unlock and max out gold characters because the final seven or eight groups of battles are going to be really tough. I probably could defeat some of the early fights but when the opponents are 2 and 3 times stronger than you, its going to be tough

I also finished the most recent challenge to get the Super Hero Daniel Bryan. Having my top three Silver Characters made the final level easy to play through. I think I need roughly around 70 thousand in game bucks to unlock another gold player so it will be awhile before I get to challenge the final seven or eight groups in battle.

So I mentioned awhile back that I bought a game off of iTunes that I found interesting and I thought I’d share my thoughts about AG Drive.

AG Drive is a futuristic racing game similar to the Wipeout series with elements of Mariokart thrown in. The tracks are based above the city and often defy gravity with portions going straight into the sky. Graphically this game is great to look at. Everything about it looks polished, clean, and futuristic.

The controls offer the user a choice between the accelerometer and virtual buttons along with the accelerator and brake pedals. What I found that I didn’t care for was that the buttons were stationary and instead of hitting a section of the screen like in other similar games, you had to touch the exact location of the small buttons. I found the accelerometer steering easier because of this, even though I often ran into walls. The game itself wants the user to update their vehicles as soon as possible because the level of competition gets faster every couple of races. This isn’t a problem, but it does force the user to at some points grind a bit on the red section of races to earn enough for vehicle upgrades.

After completing a race a new group of races are unlocked, and provide a variety of different races. Everything from your standard single race, standard three race championships, duel, speed record, distance record, and elimination. The one drawback is that there are only a handful of tracks so you will see a lot of repetitive races.

Each race you are rated on fame. The better you do the more fame and money you receive. This is kind of the story mode aspect to this racer. The game is split up into three sections. The first section you start out with are the slower group of vehicles, and the second section has faster vehicles. The third section hasn’t been released yet so it gives you some time to play through the first two sections. I almost completed the first section and started making my way through the section.

AG Drive is a fun futuristic racer on iOS, but if you’re looking for something groundbreaking, this isn’t it. It is a beautiful game graphically but if you have played games like Wipeout, you will be disappointed with the lack of variety in tracks, vehicles, and other customizable options that have been seen in other racing games. I think the game is worth $4 price tag with all it brings to tablet gaming. Despite what it lacks AG Drive is a solid racing game that I have been enjoying the past couple of weeks.

Before I end my gaming update I spotted this on Reddit last week and I got a laugh out of it

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

I want to get inFamous Second Son. Looks pretty. Never played an inFamous game before.

It's only overcast here, but apparently it'll be 26 degrees Wednesday with some possile freezing rain.

I saw the dress as white and gold at first, then blue and brown-ish, but the only time I've seen it as actually blue and black was that "original" photo they posted later.

I like the inFamous games. There are two storylines you can take, one being good and the other being evil, it all depends how you act within the game. First Light doesn't have this but its still a good game.

I've only been able to see black and blue, but it was fun to read various outlets and read user reactions.

I still have the first one they gave away for free after the hack a few years ago. Always wanted to play that and it's clone of a cousin on 360, Prototype.

Prototype and the first inFamous were such good games. With Prototype it was my first "this would be a great Superhero" game, the second being the first inFamous. Funny how i never really played a lot of either's Prototype 2 or inFamous 2.

I watched my friend Mark play a lot of Prototype. I've always meant to play both games, but haven't gotten to them yet.

We had another three inches of snow last night. At this point, anything under a foot is considered a dusting, but it put us over the 90 inch mark for the winter.

What is it with laptop adaptors lately? You and abobo both!

That is a serious number for snow. You folks seriously need to stay warm

Seriously. My adaptor was busted for a bit but it was working fine up until Friday. At least I didn't have to drive all the way to the Apple Store.

Snow is an excellent insulator, so I may actually be using less energy to heat the cottage than if we'd had a more normal winter. Of course, the record cold snap may have neutralized any savings by causing me to have to turn up the thermostat... You know it's bad when you look at your thermometer and it reads "12" and you actually find yourself thinking "Wow, it's kinda warm tonight" just because there are two digits in that readout and there's no minus sign in front of them. A few minutes later, I started laughing hysterically because I realized what I'd just thought.

Haha no worries we kind of do the same thing here when it reaches triple digits. When we get a streak of over 110 degrees and we get that one day when it "only" gets to 109 we think its cooler.

I just finished revieweing AG Drive over at GamerDad.com.  I'd post a link, but the review isn't scheduled to go live until Tuesday evening.  It was pretty good for an iPad game, though.

Oh cool. The game itself isn't a bad game, its just since I played a bunch of Wipeout, I was expecting more Wipeout from a game that is really similar to it.
