My lecturer is retarded

What she look like? Give her enough help, you could be giving her something else by the end of the month... Hey, don't judge me. I reserve the right to be a ho' too, just like all the feminists and super liberals out there.

If being an asshole gets you ahead in life, I ought to have been king of the northern Earth hemisphere.  I've been selling myself short. That's it, enough of this 'pleasant' phase I was going through. Going right back to straight out da' sewa', '98 gutter style. *activates Paradigm Shift: Hater/Saboteur/Ball-buster*

You gotta know how to play the game. It's 90% social connection. You have to be like one of the hive. It's a game for the truly extroverted and trendy, or sociopaths who can fake it. Like me. MUHWAHAHAHAHAHA

Review Blog: Summer Edition

Metal Gear Rising is highly underrated. The best action game this year so far, in my opinion. Was my GoTY until Dragon's Crown came out.

Well, technically the Brave New World expansion was the best thing I had played, but it's just that: an expansion.

And the Steam release of Spelunky is up there. It's so good. One of the best 'remakes'/upgrades of a game I've seen in a while. But it came out on Xbox last year, so it doesn't qualify for "best of the year."

Attack on Titan! Hot New Anime Show!

This hasn't clicked for me either. Tired of the youth obsession in anime for the past few years. Give me manly men and womanly women doing manly and womanly things. Although I did highly enjoy Death Note. But the plot and atmosphere in Titan aren't as strong as that one. The intro song, on the other hand, is one of the best I've heard for anime in a long time. That does feel like something from the peak 90s anime period.

Game demo up! Er, I think! Let me know?

Played for a bit. Some observations:

Writing and dialogue are strong, even if the characters seem to "spill their guts" to easily to others.

Decent amount of battle options, which is a pleasant surprise

Battle music rocks hard

I think enemy damage ramps up to steeply when you get to hospital, and they always seem to get first attack.

Escape option hasn't worked yet. Kind of strange never being able to run away from regular enemies.

The details derived from your own life set it apart from your average pro JRPG and lend it some authenticity and strong sense of authorship, yet I also welcome what seem to be references to Shin Megami Tensei, Nocturne in particular (twisted enemies, hospital the first major area, eclectic soundtrack, medical/psychological motifs).

Strong base here. If only the Persona engine was available, cheaply and easy to use, because that's what I see visually in my mind's eye.

lolwut? I'm spoofing Sarkeesian and the outraged feminist hive-mind, not the DC review, which didn't  feminist/liberal buzzwords like I have -the only relation is the score, which was an afterthought. Note the drama queen logic (a kiss on the cheek = lesbian make out session!, guys being there = OMG they're getting off on this! Male gaze, male gaze!!!).  Of course my comment doesn't have grounds, that's the point: people see what they want to see to serve their political agenda, or they react emotionally instead of rationally, which skews their perception. Sometimes photos of guys and gals are just photos of guys and gals.

These pictures are sexist.  The female characters have exposed cleavage while the males are fully clothed. The majority of these pictures are dedicated to showing the adventures of the male character while the females are given no agency, they're just there to act as ornaments for the main hero's life. In one picture, we see two girls involved in a lesbian make out section, while the males watch contentedly with patriarichal expressions on their faces. Not only are these pictures misogynist, but the captions exhibit anti-asian racism. Instead of hate speech, the writer could have put a trigger warning before the photos. But that would require empathy with the oppressed, which would undermine his white male privilege.

 5.5/10

Last screen reminds me of SMT.  I assume a larger party can be made, and there will be more battle options?

Blake's Thoughts on Dragon's Crown's Sexism

Posted on 08/04/2013 at 04:03 PM | Filed Under Blogs

There are all kinds of subtle mechanics in the game that most reviews don't mention. Subtle for brawlers at least. That's what I mean by it being a typical review. It's not the review of a person who has expertise on the mechanics of the game or the genre. That's something I personally want to know when I see a score attached, is what I'm saying. I see too many game reviews that strike me as suspicious when they dole out 10s or 5s but are about as in depth as the reviews in the local paper.  I think to myself "is there an agenda here?" And I do think the art style was a major factor in her review score, which is valid, if not what I personally think should carry that much weight. Other than that, the review makes the gameplay look as good as any of the repetitive, simplistic AAA games that get 8+ scores. *shrug* different strokes.

I think reviewers commenting on art style and politics is valid, although not something I look for, but her review was lacking in detailed analysis of game mechanics. "Repetitive" is a token criticism that can be applied to the great majority of games since you will repeat the same actions over and over and over. There is no insight there. Basically, it was the typical modern game review. Long on ancillary features, short on game mechanics.
