Working away, night & day! (game related)

Ah,making a game. It's truly a mix of heartache and exuberent joy! After trying to download my game onto my old site only to realize my site provider has now put limit caps on my previously limitless space, I finally created my own profile at rmn. (I assume it stands for rpgmaker network)

Once given the prestigous greenlight, I should be able to upload the first demo build of my game. When and if this happens, I'll gladly update my status with another blog and give you guys a link!

For the record, the game will stay "free" even after its' completion. I simply want to get it out there and get it some solid recognition. If it ever became an underground indie cult hit I'd be tickled pink by that!

Maybe later I'll start a kick-starter to remake my rpg with better graphics but as a whole I feel kind of uneasy & weird when asking folks for their hard earned cash. What if something happens and I cannot finish the project? Yeah, that would mean honest people showered me with their money only for me to have betrayed them. I do not want to be put in that nasty predicament. How could I live that down?

Regardless, here are some screens! Sorry I've been antisocial but this game is a way for me to validate my worth as a human being. (Yes,people on disability tend to feel more pressured to prove themselves. I'm no exception!)

PS: If you know of any other places where I can upload my game let me know. Right now it's sitting at around 390 MB.

"Excellent Battler art by Thalzon!"

Once I get approved at rmn downloading the demo should be easy,Matt! Just have to wait it out until I get a notification saying I can upload my work onto their site.

See? You have ethics when it comes to Kickstarter money. Many do not. I wish you the best of luck and much success with your game. I would gladly pay for it upon completion. Sounds like you're a guy who knows what he's doing. It's sure to be good.

In this economy everyone if feeling the pinch,Celt. Hopefully I can provide some decent free entertainment for folks who don't have two dimes to rub together during certain months. lol

Even if I end up charging modest fees for my games in the future, I'll always try to keep it nice & cheap. You will not see any of my work selling for 59.99. lol.

That's good to know. I understand a lot of indie game developers are going that route. I only hope Microsoft will make it easier for them....like they said they would. Know how that goes!

I'm glad microsoft became more indie friendly. Their fee for merely letting indie developers patch their own games was ridiculous. Talk about an unscrupulous cash grab! It's good it's no longer like that. (Er, at least it's no longer like that if MS keeps its' word! Fingers crossed!)

Warning! Anti-climbing paint has been applied to this building! ... is what I got when I tried to look at your profile. WTF kind of error page is that lol. I'm looking forward to that demo Ben. 390 MB?! You have been busy! Cool

Pop ups sucks,Aaron. Sorry about that, bro. I'll try to fix the link. lol. But yeah, I have been rather busy too. Laughing

Being as how I haven't been around much myself lately, hadn't noticed you were MIA. I'm looking forward to the demo, I enjoyed the one I played through previously.

I haven't been gone months or anything. lol. Just haven't been as active on facebook & twitter,Tami.

But yeah if you got some enjoyment out of the last demo this one should be a major improvement. It's pretty much close to being half the whole game.

That looks really good. I am not a huge JRPG fan as you know, but it looks like it could have come out on SNES!

The snes look is kind of what I was going for,Joe. Good to know I nailed the aesthetics. Wink

This looks killer Ben! I'm actually more stoked to try this out than anything I want to purchase at the moment, so glad it's all coming together for you bro!

Can't beat the price,Adam. lol. I'm glad you're excited for it. I cannot wait to have it up!

You should put me in your game somewhere.:)  I'd probably stick out like a sore thumb, though.

New blog up if you want to read it, too, by the way.

The game is rather empty of npcs,Cary. There's an underlying reason for that BUT it doesn't mean every game I make will have that same formula. Most of my creations end up being based loosely on real people so it wouldn't be far fetched for you to become a character!

When I get more spare time, I'm going to work on my own game. Thanks for letting me know about the RPG Maker Network site or whatever it is.

On Kickstarter, I don't know if I could do it myself. If I were going to go on Kickstarter I'd make damned sure I could fulfill everything I promised. There's nothing worse than looking like an online grifter, which I'm sure a lot of KS projects are. Even at that, I see all the problems that a famous developer like Double Fine is having getting its much-vaunted KS game off the ground, largely because they promised more than they could deliver and didn't have oversight.

Yeah, that's why I prefer making games for free. Even if I got a lot of money thrown at me for something I would not even know how best to spend it all,Andrew. Just too much of a risk to hurt & use a lot of good people. No thanks!

But you should totally check out rmn! Sometimes it takes awhile to get your game "approved" but so far the people I've met there seem pretty nice.

Last screen reminds me of SMT.  I assume a larger party can be made, and there will be more battle options?

BrokenH

08/05/2013 at 02:26 PM

There are 6 characters total,Chris. The battle system itself is rather simplistic but as par usual, different enemies will have their own unique weaknesses to exploit. I'd say the story & mood are more like SMT but the battle system is a lot more akin to Dragon Warrior.

Looking great Ben. Can't wait for the demo.

Just as an observation, the third screenshot with that weird monster kinda reminded me of Gygas from Earthbound (even though I haven't played the game).

I'll tell you when I get the demo up somewhere! Sorry it takes awhile but that's just how it is I guess.  I'm impatient as a mofo but I have to play it cool,Alejandro!

I might just give this a go. Sure it's on the PC but what better reason to try things out. I missed it last time. always thought about trying to do something simliar but I don't have the chops to make specific art, I'd just use generic. Plus my dialouge might be stilted. Still want to give it a try.
