Thanks! I'm happy to see that life has improved for you. Glad to know that I'm not alone in the struggle. And I don't plan on going anywhere.

I've played the PSP remake and the PSOne original. Both have steep learning curves for players that aren't used to SRPGs, like myself. But they're so well made.

I don't know when I will, but I'll play the RE2 remake. That and the remake for the original. Games like this aren't usually my cup of tea but I'll make an exception here.

Thanks. I have no worries about finding a job. Just with finding a job that pays as well as the last one did.

From the few reviews I've read of Avengers, the writers/directors pulled off the same trick they did with CA: Civil War in terms of balancing time and subplots for the ensemble. What intrigues me is the idea that the villain is the protagonist so he gets more screen time than you'd expect (I mean, unless I'm misinterpreting remarks made by the directors on that issue). It sounds like a good way around the pitfall of an underdeveloped villain.

Agree with Deadpool 2. That last trailer sold me more than anything else.

On a surface level, sure. But it has intelligent, pointed things to say about how an Afrofuturisitc society would function in modern times and what responsibilities it has to itself and the outside world. And it has one of the best villains ever written, a character whose rage and viewpoint are understandable even when his actions are horrible.

No, I've avoided mobile games for the most part. And my commitment to AC: New Leaf is so inconsistent that I'm sure a mobile version of that would be a waste of time for me.

On Phantasy Star 2

Posted on 04/25/2018 at 06:44 PM | Filed Under Blogs

It's weird how Phantasy Star II is a game that is dated in many ways and hard as hell to boot and yet it was a game that made me finally fall in love in RPGs in my mid-twenties. The Retronauts episode covering it (1up.com era) truly sold me on those early games and from those that I've played (and of course, World of Warcraft), I would no longer be blind to the genre.

I must've played PS2 on the most devices than any game I've owned: Dreamcast, PS2, X360, iPod, GBA, PSP and soon enough, PS4/Xbox One (btw, PS games 2-4 will be available on that upcoming Sega Classics Collection).

As I've stated before, I've never finished the game, not even close. I like the music, the graphics, the characters and the bleak story and yet there are game design choices that don't age well. You need a strategy guide to figure out what gear/weapons work for which characters and what spells truly do; the game never gives you info on this. Also, you grind more than any game I've ever played.

And yet, it still has charm. My willingness to give it a shot and play it multiple times have created an appreciation for it over the years. While I think PS IV is the superior game (and few will dispute that, I wager), it's still an important game for the genre and for myself as a gamer.
