Velocity 2X, by all measures, is a well made game. It has a pretty extensive amount of content including 50 core levels with a healthy number of objectives to achieve in each, a set of unlockable puzzle-based bonus levels, and the Switch version even includes the DLC out-of-the-box. But even after completing the whole game, I never really felt satisfied with it. While there’s a lot of content, each level feels similar to the last and this lack of diversity eventually wore me down. By the time the credits rolled, I was relieved to be done with it.

You Say You Want a Revolution We All Want to Change Valkyria

I have very limited experience with the Valkyria series outside a bit with the second entry I mostly forgot about. I know past titles were turn based strategy that has to player take control of each soldier individually, where it controls more like a shooter. And I can say that Valkyria Revolution is nothing like that, instead going for an action RPG approach while still trying to hold onto its identity.

Puzzles spiked with emotions.

Valiant Hearts is about one of the more horrendous moments in 20th century history, a moment seldom portrayed in movies, TV, games, or other media -- probably because it is not pleasant to relive.  While World War II can be fun, despite its carnage, in pretending to do battle against a true, villainous evil – the first World War lacks such black and white delineations, and for lack of a better word, was simply insane.

There’s death a-plenty in the eShop’s gravity defying PC port.

Reviewing VVVVVV is about as tough as getting your head around its title.  It’s an odd game that sticks out in a crowd.  It’s simple, yet quirky.  It’s hard not to want to pick it up and play it, yet once consumed it becomes difficult to formulate an opinion on.  But that’s precisely my job, to form an opinion and disseminate that to you, the reader.  The review that follows almost mirrors the end experience with VVVVVV – somewhat unstable but worth taking in.

It's frantic and fast-paced, but requires you to appreciate replay value.

Since the inception of Platinum Games, they have done a great job of taking a specific genre and making it completely over-the-top and intense. MadWorld, Bayonetta, and now Vanquish, are all great examples of this. In the case of Vanquish, players are presented with what can best be described as a third-person shooter on steroids. The action is fast-paced and intense, the control fluid, and the strategy layered and complex. What's most impressive about Vanquish is that it manages to merge the concepts of a modern third-person shooter with the classic appeal of an arcade title.
