Lucha Libre AAA: Heroes del Ring Review

It's unbelievable that this game is outclassed by a decade old N64 game.

I've been out of the wrestling game market for a couple generations at this point. Back on the N64 I put some significant time into both WCW/nWo Revenge and WWF WrestleMania 2000 from AKI and THQ. I'm sure you can imagine my surprise when I booted up Lucha Libre: AAA Heroes del Ring and found gameplay that was absolutely no better than what was available back on the N64. Don't get me wrong, the gameplay isn't terrible, but it has seen no advancement, and as a matter of fact, when compared to WrestleMania 2000, which was even suceeded by yet another title, WWF No Mercy, the gameplay is clearly not as advanced. Given that Lucha Libre doesn't even match up to a series of games from the N64, it's tough to cut it any slack.

FIFA 11 Review

A kick in the wrong direction.

As sports games become more complex, the harder they become to make on the Wii. Last year's FIFA had a number of problems in terms of both control and gameplay. It was a very generic game that didn't really have any unique or compelling controls like many Wii games possess.

Doritos Crash Course Review

Doritos, now providing fun video games and delicious snacks for college students and teenagers everywhere.

If you were to ask me last week if I'd be writing a piece on a Doritos sponsored game, I'd have laughed at you - but here we are. No, Chester Cheetah is not in my house holding me at gunpoint at the request of the Frito-Lay company (SOMEBODY, PLEASE SAVE ME!) to write something on their latest release. I'm here to tell you about Doritos Crash Course because it's an honest to goodness, fun game. Even better, it's free.

Alien Breed 3: Descent Review

A decent game released at the worst possible time.

What is it with the engineer being the badass in sci-fi games? I don’t understand where this precedent comes from and it is really starting to make me question the military occupation specialty selection process being used by future militaries. “So I see here you have an incredible survival instinct, natural aptitude with firearms and inhuman reflexes. Have you considered fixing engines son?”

NBA Jam Review

Improved controls and an online mode give the HD versions of NBA Jam a leg up on the Wii title.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has many fond memories spent playing countless hours of the original NBA Jam titles. The over-the-top antics were undoubtedly the attraction; breaking the backboard, playable mascots, the Clintons, "Boom-shaka-laka", "He's on Fire!", rampant fouling, and fast-paced down-to-the-second gameplay. All of it is back in this latest edition of the series now under the control of EA Sports after the closing of originator, Midway.

Fable III Review

Whether choosing to be good or evil, Fable III offers a solid quest, immersion, and plenty of variety.

I don't have much experience with Fable, other than three hours of unimpressed play with the very original. So for all intents and purposes I went into my playtime with Fable III completely unhindered by any past biases, and I must admit, I loved what I found. The gameplay is a wonderful combination of varied experiences that allow players to explore a torn world in any way they desire. There's dozens of quests to take on, hundreds of people to meet, an unbelievably expansive and diverse universe to explore, and a great combat system. Best of all, those aspects are simply scraping the surface of why Fable III is an unbelievable experience from beginning to…well, right before it ends.

Sonic Colors Review

Wisp powers and good level design make this the best Sonic release of the year.

Having had the opportunity to play all of this year's Sonic games, it's unquestionable that Sonic Colors on the DS is the best of the whole lot. This may come as a surprise to some, especially when one of the titles released constituted the fourth part of the mainline series. However, the adventure created by Dimps this time around far surpasses the currently competing Sonic titles, as well as their past work on both Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure.

Crafting Mama Review

Boring project ideas and overdone mini-games make this one of the weakest entries into the Mama series.

The once expert chef, Mama, has become versatile over the years, expanding her skill repertoire to include gardening, and even babysitting. One of Mama's latest ventures has her creating homemade goods in Crafting Mama, a title that follows classic Cooking Mama convention, without any added frills.

Disney Epic Mickey Review

I promise I haven’t used the word “epic” in this review, except in naming the game’s title.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Disney Epic Mickey in a nutshell:

Picture this: Upon arriving at Disneyland (or Disney World,) you buy your ticket, walk up to the turnstile, present the ticket and walk in. You see Main Street, USA, filled with people, Mickey Mouse balloons, characters, a fire truck that ferries people to Cinderella’s castle, horse-drawn carriages, and essentially, you realize you’re at the entrance of what many would consider a magical place. Excitedly, you hurry to the nearest Disney cast member, and ask where you should go first! Then, the cast member, Jenny, says she lost her shoe, and was wondering if you could get it from Bobby, a cast member down the street. After navigating your way through a crowd, you retrieve the shoe and bring it back to Jenny. She gives you a MacGuffin, and then, in order to ride the very first ride, you realize four more MacGuffins are needed.

Dragon's Lair Trilogy Review

A great compilation of three classic titles.

Sometimes game releases come about, not to offer the latest innovative experience, but rather to pay homage to our roots. Dragon's Lair Trilogy is one such example, and though similar gameplay would label a game broken or unplayable by modern standards, it showcases just how far we have come in 27 years.
