Transformers: Fall of Cybertron Hands On Preview

High Moon’s latest impresses.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is on its way to being just as good, if not better than its predecessor if my latest hands-on with the game is any indicator. 2010’s War for Cybertron left a lasting impression on me, and was one of my favorite games of that year. It finally set the bar for what a Transformers game should be like with the right amount of action, fluidity of gameplay,  and the overall production value. Thankfully, Fall of Cybertron continues that trend. The latest demo, which includes single and multiplayer components shows that High Moon has learned from some of its mistakes in the last game and is trying hard to make sure that Fall of Cybertron is a better game overall.

Brave: The Video Game Review

Another ill-FATEd movie tie-in.

Disney-Pixar’s Brave was a charming movie. It tells the story of a strong minded princess who would rather go on adventures than worry about her womanly duties. Tied into this story is one about family, bravery, and defining one’s own fate. The movie hit the marks it needed to, and for me at least, left no desire for expansion. That fact comes across pretty loudly when playing the movie tie-in game, also titled Brave. While it executes well as a (very) basic game, it ultimately comes off as a boring, and pointless adventure.

The Walking Dead: The Game - Episode 2: Starved for Help Review

It seems zombies aren’t the only enemies.

Set in the same universe as the graphic novel of the same name, this episodic tale follows the story of Lee Everet, an ex-convict with a troubled past and his interactions with the characters he meets. Though zombies are the primary antagonists of The Walking Dead series, one theme that the series drives home is the fact that everyday people can be just as, if not more dangerous than the undead. Episode 2: Starved For Help continues this theme.

Bioware delivers on their promises and that’s about it.

In many ways, Mass Effect 3’s ending was a mess. Whether you were content with it or not, it’s hard to dispute the many shortcomings of the endings. There were numerous plot holes, inconsistencies and an overall lack of closure that left fans of the series angry and confused. Following the uproar of complaints about Mass Effect 3’s original ending, Bioware decided to take an opportunity to expand and elaborate on the endings that we already got. While this isn’t exactly what all fans wanted, I feel this is the best thing Bioware could have done to keep the integrity of their ending.

Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown Review

A veteran fighting franchise makes a statement.

The Virtua Fighter series is well known and applauded for its balance and its simple complexity. A fighting game played with only three buttons, Virtua Fighter features a simple control scheme but adds incredible depth with its refined gameplay systems. This may seem odd when compared to other fighters that use more buttons, but Virtua Fighter is arguably one of the most complex fighting games on the market. With this latest iteration—subtitled Final Showdown—the series emphasizes its strong points.
