My Thoughts on this Star Fox-Metroid Crossover Rumor

If you haven't heard by now, theres a rumor going around the interwebs claiming that there is a possibility that Retro Studio's latest title is indeed a cross-over between the Star Fox and Metrod franchises, titled; Star Fox-Metroid: Fusion Saga (kind of an odd name). First impression upon reading this can be summed up with this emote: -_-

I continued to read the article and what I read interested me a bit. In the game, Fox while in a lightspeed warp accidentaly collides with Samus' ship, causing her to crash land on an unknown planet where she again looses some of her abilities and has to explore the planet to get them back. Meanwhile Fox is off fighting bad guys making way to the planet in which Samus landed because apparently there is a massive plot looming that involves Andross and the Metroids. You take control of Samus in a Metroid Prime like way, in first person, while you execute Star Fox missions a-la Star Fox 64. As you progress there are levels where you control Samus' ship like you would in Star Fox, and control Fox in third person. The source that I read this from compared it to Jet Force Gemini but more acrobatic which is fine with me since JFG was one of my favorite games on the N64.

Anyway, after reading this, I gained interest. It seems like an interesting premise and it seems that Retro is attempting to keep the integrity of both franchises intact. Of course its only a rumor, but this has potential to be the killer app that the Wii-U needs out of the gate, at least for the Nintendo faithful.

That said, I also feel most gamers will laugh at the idea, or scoff at it even. Theres no good reason for them to cross-over these franchises. All of the cross-over goodness is usually saved for Smash Brothers, but making a full on adventure will definitely cause some discussion, not all positive. Not to mention, both franchises, while beloved, are not mega sellers and for it to be a killer app, it needs to guarantee sales. Im not sure if that game would, at least at first. Say the game is amazing, then it may get more popular due to word of mouth and positive reviews but its not a sure thing.

Personally, at the moment I think the game sounds interesting. Whether its real or fake is yet to be determined, but I bet there are now a fair amount of hopefuls praying the game sees the light of day. I remain a tad bit skeptical. I'd personally rather a Metroid Prime 4 and Star Fox Wii-U, both individual titles but if any studio has the cred to pull this off, its Retro. The first Metroid Prime still stands as my favorite game and the other two are great games in their own right. Not to mention Donkey Kong Country Returns provided one of the most fun platforming experiences that I've had recently. I have faith if this is their desired route, but who knows? We'll find out this E3 I guess...

What do you think about this rumored title? Yay or neigh? Leave your opinions down below!

Of course I would like to see seperate titles for each of these franchises, but I also would like to see the outcome of such a "fusion" project. I can't get anymore hyped than I already am. Although if such a game were to be succesful I just wonder what other kinds of "fusions" Nintendo would allow.
