I finallying made the time to write another blog.  I wanted to do this a month ago, but I've been a little busy with work, family, and you now..., life.  Well, update time.

Games I Finished:

Fallout 3

 photo 80906d45-b098-451d-85ef-a742ea08bd79_zps49708c34.jpg

I bought this game a little over a year ago.  I got the Game of the Year edition for $20 and the game has been sealed since I started playing  about a month or so ago.  Well...., I have to say it's a shame I hadn't played this game sooner.  Awesome game.  It was a bit slow at first, but once you start adventuring, the game opens up big time.  The whole experience is pretty damn cool. UNTILL....  Beware of the dlc parts.  Now, Fallout 3 has little parts around that makes the game crash.  This happens moreso on the dlc parts.  The game crashed so often that I almost just quit the game out of frustrated.  Hours down the f'ing drain. Yell  It's clearly the worse part of the game.  The most important advice I can give you when playing this game is to SAVE OFTEN.  Other than that, it's a freaking great game.

Games I'm Playing:

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (DS)

 photo castlevania_dawn_of_sorrow_zps6e2a5752.jpg

I finished off the 3 Castlevania games on the GBA and now I'm starting on the DS.  So far, DoS is a pretty decent game.  It's pretty much like any other Castlevania/Metriod game that been done before.  So, if you're the kind of person that has not grown tired of those kind of games, then you'll enjoyed this one too.  I know I do.  I'm currently a little stuck, but I plan to fix that problem soon with a quick trip to Gamefaqs.  Getting it done on my own is taking too long and I'm out of ideas. Frown

Mass Effect (360)

Yeah, I'm sick. Laughing

P.O.W. - Prisoners of War (PS3/PSP)

I got a heads up on this game on PSN and I couldn't pass it up.  I always enjoyed playing P.O.W. and I couldn't pass up picking it up for less than $3.  It's harder than I remember though.

Yakuza 3 (PS3)

Been trying to get back into this game, but I'm stuck doing bullshit.  I'm a freaking ex-gangster and I'm looking for an accessory to help an orphan kid look better for the girl he likes?  Can't I just pay a prostitute to hangout with the little dude for a while.  She could hold his hand and give him a kiss?!  Maybe not a kiss. Foot in Mouth  Seriously thinking about quitting it for now and picking it up later.

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 (360)

 photo naruto-shippuden-ultimate-ninja-storm-3-034_zps7efc0ff5.jpg

I just recently picked this one.  I had a chance to pick up a brand new copy for only $40 and I took it.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch (PS3)

I barely started this up, but I plan to continue soon.  I'm trying to clear up some stuff before dedicating more time to it.

Games I Bought:

 photo 98b9ec9b-12ab-46b1-9ff1-37e32b9b7dd8_zps404110ef.jpg

Alice: Madness Returns (360) - I wanted to get this game a while back, but I never saw any copies of it.  Lately, I've been seeing copies at GameStop, so I finally dropped down the money on a used copy.  Lucky me, I found a copy that had an unused redeem code for American Mcgee's Alice.  Yay.

 photo ss-011_zps682154fa.jpg

Persona 4: Golden (Vita) - If only I had a Vita to play it on. Undecided

Crysis (360) - I don't know a thing about this game.  I got the digital version for free.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior (360) - I don't know a thing about this game.  I got the digital version for free. Cool

Crackdown (360) - I was told this game is good.  I only paid $5 to find out.  If I like it, I'll pick up the sequel.

Tony Hawk: Shred (360) - I bought Ride/Board controller a while back.  I wanted to pick this up to complete the set.  Damn shame I couldn't get another board with it.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (360) - It was cheap, so I picked a used copy.  I never played any of the FPS that everyone loves or hates, but I'm interested to know what all the fuss is about.

Battlefield 1943 (360) - That used copy of Bad Company 2 came with an unused redeem code for a digital version of this game.

Resistance 2 (PS3) - I bought the first game and now I own the 2nd.

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood (360) - I played the demo years ago and saw it at GameStop real cheap.

 photo The-world-ends-with-you_zps42498de1.jpg

The World Ends With You (DS) - A lot of people love this game.  I played it a bit a few years ago and just couldn't get into it.  I've been told it's kind of like Devil Survivor.  I loved DS, but TWEwY didn't grab me at all.  I own it off Ebay for less than $13.

Hyperdimension Neptunia (PS3) - I plan to get all these games on the PS3.  This is my first.  I read it's not the best of the 3.

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (PSP) - It's been a while since I played a MGS game.  I hope this game is as good as the others.

Games I Preordered:

Pandora's Tower (Wii) - This will probably be the last new Wii game I will buy.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner - Soul Hackers (3DS) - It took a while.  We finally have a US release of this game.

Shin Megami Tensei IV (3DS) - I really hope this game will be good.

I really need to do blogs more often.  This one ended up being longer than I like.  Though it doesn't look like it, I'm still trying to spend less money of games this year.  Lately I've just been lucky finding games real cheap or free.  It's going to get harder to not buy games now that I just got a new job with better pay. Money Mouth  I'm planning to get either a 3DS or Vita soon.  I'll probably get a 3DS because it's cheaper.  I wonder what version I should get. Cool

What are you guys up to lately?

I'm working. Then I come home and fall asleep in my mashed potatoes like my daddy used to do, lol. Not really, but I have fallen asleep with a controller in my hand or in the middle of a movie more often than not in the last two weeks.

Falling alseep while playing a game or watching a movie is what I do best.  I have a feeling with my next job, it's going to happen more often than not.

I'd like to get my hands on Alice Returns some day too, I like what Ben (BrokenH) had to say about it when he did a review of it back on 1UP.

The next games I'm hoping to get my hands on are Mass Effect 3 since I still haven't played it, I'm going to get it and all the DLC. I also want to get Dragon's Dogma, Tropico 4 Gold edition, maybe Port Royale 3 since leeradical here did a review of it and it looks like something I could get into. I also really want to get the new Silver Star edition of Sniper Elite V2 with all the DLC. I'm obsessed with the demo of that game and it's super fun and the bullet time sniper stuff is great so I really want that game.

Alice Madness Returns is something I want to get to soon.  I've been wanting that game for a while.  I also would like to get Dragon's Dogma and Mass Effect Trilogy (PS3).  I didn't know anything about the Sniper games until recently.  It might be something I'll continue to buy down the road.

"Persona 4: Golden (Vita) - If only I had a Vita to play it on. Undecided"

You need to see a doctor about your spending problem, that's dangerousSurprised

It's crossed my mind. Laughing  It's hard to believe, but I actually spend less money.  I end up buying more with less.  It's going to get worse because the next consoles are coming, which brings down the prices of current console games.  I paid less than $25 for Persona 4 Golden.  I may not see it that low ever again, so I had to get it. Cool

You picked up some really good games. Especially Alice:Madness Returns. I'll be looking for that one next week in Indiana. Great used game store near my brother's house that I always hit. That Hyperdimension Neptunia has me very curious. I saw it a few weeks ago and thought it was on of the most unique games for PS3 that I've seen. My hat is off to you upon completing Fallout 3. I have the GOTY edition for 360 and have not even made it half way through yet.

jgusw

04/13/2013 at 06:49 AM

Hyperdimension Neptunia looks like an interesting game.  When I found out that a 3rd game released not long ago on the PS3, I knew I had to jump to see what it was about.  Hopefully, I can pick up the 1st sequel later this year.

Fallout 3 is a beast.  I talked with people that said they spend more than 100 hrs play the game and so did I.  I thought it would go on forever, but I was really enjoying it.  I install the game and all the dlc before playing it, so I didn't know which parts were dlc.  I didn't even bother to look it up until the game started crashing.  Most of the crashes were during the dlc parts.  Years ago, I read the game had problems with crashing but damn..... Laughing

Yeah, a long blog here today but lots of good stuff here. My wife snagged a new copy of Fallout 3 GOTY edition from some website for $10. I haven't started it yet of course lol. How long was your total playtime?

I love those GBA and DS Castlevania games!

How did you snag a free download of Crysis? I have Crysis 2 in my backlog and I'd like to play the first game but I don't want to pay $20 for it on XBLA lol. You can't beat free games!

I put in over 100 hrs into Fallout 3.  Most of it was great.  Save often and it's a very enjoyable experience. Laughing

I got Crysis free from a friend.  He preordered Crysis 3 and got the digital version for Crysis 1 for free.  He already had Crysis 1, so he gave the dlc to me.  I didn't know Crysis 1 still $20?

Fallout 3 and Dawn of Sorrow are two of my favorite games ever. Well, Mass Effect also but at this point that should be unsaid. I mean, I think the two of us have spent more hours playing Mass Effect than everyone else on this site combined.

Right now I'm all about Ni no Kuni and Bioshock Infinite. Barring an upset from Tales of Xillia, Ni no Kuni will be my GOTY 2013.

I'm surprised it took you this long to get into Fallout 3. I figured it'd be right up your alley. Hopefully you will try New Vegas in the future. Gameplay-wise, New Vegas is easily the better of the two, with far more choices and RPG options than Fallout 3. However, I also enjoyed Fallout 3 for its atmosphere of desolation and moments like Tranquility Lane.  Fallout: NV and Fallout 3 are my third and fourth favorite games of the current generation, behind only Valkyria Chronicles and Ni no Kuni.

I thought the orphanage segments of Yakuza 3 were charming myself, and they made Kazuma a very likable character.

I was fine with the Yakuza 3 orphan stuff at first, but a while back I stopped playing the game and I'm picking up where I left off.  Where I left off it's not that interesting and I'm ready for the gangsters and fighting to beginning.  I guess I just lost touch with the story and character a bit from the break.

I've come so close to buying Valkyria Chronicles lately.  I'll probably pick it up within the next month or so.

While playing Fallout 3, I thought to myself, why did I take so long to get to this game.  The game is great and I'll get New Vegas goty when I see it at a sweet price.

I want to get Bioshock Infinite too.

I have the Castlevanias after Dawn of Sorrow on DS, still haven't finished Order of Ecclessia.

I don't know anything about Naruto, but I did see a Let's Play of that game online, and it looks like the fighting game I've been wanting to play. I know there was something with the similar concept of having a large open-space arena released for Dreamcast, but I forgot the name of it, and that Naruto game just looks awesome.

Ninja Storm 3 is a good game, but if you're not a fan of the series, then it's mostly more of the same.  This new game is better than the last game though.

I got unstuck on Castlevania last night and found more rooms to explore.  Sadly, I didn't save and I'll have to do some stuff over again. Embarassed  I plan to start Portrait of Ruin next.

I can't recall the DC game you're referring to.  I'm thinking of a couple games, but I don't remember the names of any of them.

Well, I haven't played anything in the series or watched any of the anime or read any of the manga, so it'll all be new to me. lol

Portrait of Ruin is fun, I had a much easier time beating that than Order. Sorry you have to retread your steps though, I hate when I forget to save.

And I figured out the game I was thinking of was Power Stone.

jgusw

04/13/2013 at 05:29 PM

Power Stone is a great game.  The Naruto fighting games on the Wii and GC are more like Power Stone.

MGS Portable Ops.  Is an awesome game in my opinion and it is also one of my favorites.  The Song in the game, Calling To The Night  is probabaly my favorite of all MGS songs, or at least tied with The Best Is yet To Come.   It's not perfect ( but what game is) but I like it way better than Peace Walker

jgusw

04/13/2013 at 07:45 AM

Cool. I was thinking Peace Walker might be the better game.  It's good to hear you like Portable Ops more.

I couldn't get into Fallout 3. I only played enough to make it out of the Vault and visit the first town but the sheer size of options was so staggering I wouldn't make time for it. I'll come back to it some day.

I love Mass Effect. Great story and characters. The only thing I hated about the Mako was fighting in it. When I had to fight a Thresher Maw....god that sucked. I hate those creatures or anything that looks like a sandworm. They'd pop out of the ground and make you soil yourself. The same thing happened in Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando.

jgusw

04/13/2013 at 07:52 AM

The size of Fallout 3 scared me off too.  I started it after I got a bunch of other games out of the way and then I could put more time into playing Fallout.  Once I got into it, it was great.

The Mako does take some getting use too.  I've played the game so many times, I don't notice how bad the Mako is anymore.  Thresher Maws are no joke.  I hate that they can pop out of the ground and instant kill you.

I didn't have too many problems with Fallout 3 crashing after all the patches. I think the more time you spend on a save the more prone it was to crashing. The DLC was broken. I couldn't even barely finish most of it. New Vegas is a lot worse when it comes to crashing. I'm glad you got to play it though James. I had a blast with it and often wish to go back. Then I think about my ridiculous backlog lol. Embarassed

Damn, New Veges is worse.  Thanks for the heads up.  I'll remember it when I finally get the game.

I don't really play Castlevania games for the story, but I am actually interested in what happens in Dawn of Sorrow as the ending to Aria of Sorrow was actually really interesting.

I was actually thinking of starting up MGS: Portable Ops again the other day. I never got too much into it as it just is not engaging like the console games. I need a new PSP game to play though.

jgusw

04/14/2013 at 10:04 AM

That's the problem I think I'll have with Portable Ops.  The console version seem to be more interesting.

I don't played Castlevania too much for the story either.  I pay just enough attention to know what to do next.

Alice: Madness Returns is dope! Though it has a decent combat engine it's more of an old school platformer. If that's up your alley you should have fun!

jgusw

04/14/2013 at 10:05 AM

I hope I like it.  My dislike for platformers have grown.  I use to love them, but over the years they've annoyed me.

Dawn of Sorrow was really good.  I started Order of Ecclesia, but only got through half.  Sorrow was so much better that I had a hard time sticking with it.   I absolutely love Alice Madness Returns.  That's what I call a true Sleeper HIt.  It's just a great platforming game with a dark edge to it.

I'm really enjoying Dawn of Sorrow.  Last night I got pass the part I was stuck and defeated 2 bosses.

I have the GOTY version of both Fallout 3 and Oblivion, only got about few hours into either. I had heard of some messed up stuff happening in the DLC for Oblivion but this is the first I'v heard of Fallout 3 DLC being buggy. Bethesda really needs to work on that. Glad to hear it picks up. I got out of the bunker and started exploring a little but felt a little over whelmed by it. I finished the Mass trilogy a couple of weeks ago (love those games!), and I look forward to going through it again after a little detox and tackle some PS2 stuff in the backlog.

jgusw

04/14/2013 at 08:09 PM

I have the Oblivion goty too.  I don't think I opened it yet.  I should put that on my list of games to play soon.

Fallout 3 came out as a suprise for me too when I played it. had the same issue with game freezes/crashes on my PS3 set up. I eventually was able to beat the game and get all trophies. Even went as far as play the DLC games first hoping to beat the glitches. Plus it was cool running around the game world with a gauss rifle, alien weaponry and a dragon stealth suit.

jgusw

05/05/2013 at 08:11 AM

One day I hope to do that too.  I never got the dragon stealth suit.  I'll have to look for that.
