Hello everyone, I hope on the night Samurai Jack is back all is well.

Anyway a short story, randomly just scrolling through Facebook one night (I've read most of my comics) I suddenly saw this early little post about Sleep Paralysis I don't know why I  read it, I was just curious and sure enough I realized since my late teens I briefly had this problem.

It described the symptoms as such

  • Lack of movement
  • Pins and needles in your limbs
  • can't catch your breath
  • crushing pressure on your chest
  • not being able to open ones eyes at will
  • not being able to speak

Among the weirdest was seeing a dark shadowy lady in the foreground of what you see, that part never happened but apparently it's a none occurrence. the cause of this is lack of sleep or Irregular sleep patterns.

Which explains my late school life and the majority of my short lived Uni days.

I had to travel relatively far to my University which was in the north west of London, I lived relatively lower North west, I had to wake up early to a 2 hour train journey to get their usually by 10 or 8am, 3-4 times a week. Needless to say I took it's toll and I had to stop going after 2 1/2 years.

I'd rather not get into just how I felt at the time or my experience in school, but this little epiphany has somewhat eased my own conscience a little. By no means does it absolve my own responsibilities but it's allowed me to reflect a little.

I'm reminded of when I got my GameCube or PS2 and playing games so late in the night it would wreck my whole school week, the adrenaline, the focus, the hype. I seem not to have grown out of my recklessness because even now I find it hard to sleep (it's what, around 3am wriring this?) but I've managed it by doing late shifts a my job.

As obvious and stupid it is to come to this conclusion so late is that You shouldn't Ignore your problems, maybe one day I'll actually take my own advice? Meh.

Anyway Other Stuff

I recently bought a camera, a Canon 1200D, It was an ex-display but in peek condition with 2 lenses, an 18-55 and a 70-300. I work in one of those tech shops and I'm currently the second best (formerly 3rd) camera expert in the branch, I haven't properly worked a camera since my college and university days and I have now a device to sharpen my knowledge and my skills. (my trigger finger is terrible!). It's actually one of the lower models, I call it a "Beginner Model" because it gives you just enough of what you need to start with, like Basic adjustable ISO, continuous shooting ambiance settings. the down sides,

  • it does save camera settings
  • a little on the chunky side
  • no lens image stabilizer
  • no microphone jack
  • no Wi-fi/NFC
  • Auto-focus is "a little" slow

These aren't major problems even if I where a pro, the real problem is spending all the money on lenses, you PC gamers can relate to wanting that little piece of overprices tech upgrade you can't afford and will only improve a small feature... but you need it! Canon lens are the absolute best but my gawd! Their prices will keep you from eating for a month.

I have other things to get for it like filters (I currently have one UV filter) but I currently need to get a lens hood, they don't cost too much.Tongue Out

A comic book artist called Bernie Wrightson last year fell ill and had to retire, he is a vet in the industry and is a fantastic talent, I felt the urge to read one of his works, Batman vs Alien.

I miss the 90s.

New wireless in-ear phones, Monster iSport Victory V2, brand new models but I got them on sale for over 20% off, again for work and personal use, some of the best I've used in a while, defo better than beats, 8+ hour battery life and a sound booster mode. Without a hook of some kind in-ears tend to fall out but these can take a good head banging! I give them a recommendation.

I currently own the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild collectors edition for the switch. I don't own a Switch yet, and considering all the problems I've heard, waiting seems to be a good idea. I might get the Wii U version.

I'm planning to get the PS4 Pro as I really, really want to play Persona 5, It's currently the only game on my radar as such.

That's it for now, I need to sleep (ha). I hope I didn't drone on too much.

This is V saying "Exit Light!"

I used to suffer from something similar in my teens. It frequently happened just after I went to bed. I'd think I was lying in the dark unable to move or open my eyes and it felt like something had jumped on the bed and was holding me down. Then it would be over as quickly as it started and I'd be awake in a cold sweat.

I don't know when it stopped happened but it's been a long time.

I used to suffer that too.  Not so much anymore. I also got that feeling of lying in bed and then suddenly feeling like I'm falling.  Weird.

I stay up a lot, and work through the night.  Sometimes I sleep through the entire night. Not often.  Sleep is fucking wack.  I do take nice naps though.  I'm good at napping.  Try it.

I get the falling sensation, and sometimes I have a sudden physical reaction like a ghost is dragging my feet.

i don't get the dragging the feet thing, but for a couple years when I was around 29-30, I got the falling sensation ALL the time.

I can't nap, if I do that during the after noon I find it harder to sleep.

I preordered Persona 5 as soon as I was able.  Only a few more weeks to go.

I watched some physiology lectures a few months ago. We all basically go paralyzed when we sleep. Then sometimes the brain wakes up before the body and then you get that paralyzed feeling. Basically you are paralyzed until your brain reconnects with the rest of your body. It's pretty common but I don't think I've experienced it, but maybe once as a kid. Seems like something that might have happened.

Camera gear makes me so excited. That's just me. I tried to get a fish eye lens a little while ago, or at least a super wide angle lens, and couldn't get one for under $800 for my Nikon D70S. I thought they'd be cheaper than other lenses. I mean, I got a 90mm macro lens for around $400. I thought, not more than that. But it was. I was disappointed.

I used to be a Canon guy too. Now I'm Nikon. Not sure why I switched but I'm not super attached to either like some people. I have fond memories of Canon though because that was my first serious camera, a Canon AE-1. I went Nikon when digital happened.

I read a little on the phenomina of the brain actting before the body when I started researching this, it's very interesting.

I heard that a lot, Nikon was more impressive when they where digital (they technically are better due to them having better sensors in general), but the recording function isn't as good or the lenses either. canonlenes have become extorttionate over the years though Tongue Out

Interesting. Nikon used to be best for lenses in the film days. Canon was cheaper but still good.

Wow two hour train ride just to go to school. That is dedication. I can see how a late night gaming session could throw everything off.

For the sleep stuff try moving your pinky finger. I've done the can't wake up think a couple of times but thankfully none recently.

Congrats on the camera. I jumped into photography maybe a year ago but I went Nikon for my beginner camera. I bought a dongle that transmits a WiFi signal to my phone but I rarely use it. It is amazing how much lenses are. I want this one that is 18-200 I think but the reviews are iffy. I'd like a multipurpose everyday one but I really do love the sharpness of a prime lens.

Nice earbuds. Those have better battery than my Powerbeats 2. I can get maybe 6 hours. Do those headphones have heavy bass?

i haven't even got into the Train strikes that used to go on during the time, awkward.

I'll give that pinky thing a go.

You got lucky with Nikon lenses they are more expensive on average, at work there's a 100mm Macro lens with Image Stabaliser worth £500 (maybe $800-$700?). We a 55-300 lens at work for sale, I may end up buying that before I leave.

Yes. the Bass is just as good and the vocals are sharper. I  currently have both, a thing you should know about the Powerbeats 3 is they sound exactly the same.

Yeah Nikon lenses aren't cheap. The Nifty Fifty I got for $190 with some Best Buy Rewards thrown in to lower the price. I've been looking at Tamron's offerings and that's where I saw the 18-200.

Good to know about the headphones. I'm not retiring my Powerbeats 2's yet, but its good to know that there are some alternatives on the market that don't have the crazy price that the Powerbeats 3's have.
