Backloggers Side-Note: Vanquish, Dead Space and Tales of Graces f (future arc)

Though the latest edition of Backloggers has been about System Shock 2 - a game I opted to pass on playing - I've been going through my personal backlog clearing out games that have been on my ever growing list of stored titles. Just wanted to shed some opinions on a few, first of which is Vanquish which I got for free due to PS+.

Vanquish

Vanquish is a simple, short and dumb game. That said, it was a blast, and I really enjoyed playing it. That game was all gameplay, and flash. The shooting was fast paced and fun - something I haven't said about too many third person shooters. The game definitely didn't take itself TOO seriously, as the plot was nonsense and even though I finished the campaign, I barely remember any details about the plot. Of course, that didn't really matter. What I got from it was a nice 5 hour distraction that was well recieved, but I definitely don't have the urge to revisit that one.

Dead Space

So I'm only on chapter 5 of Dead Space, but I have absoultely NO idea how I let this one go for so long. My first impressions gave me a Metroid Prime meets Resident Evil 4 vibe, which is a pretty winning formula in my book as both of those games are some of my all time favorites. The game hold up really well, despite its age. It looks fantastic, and the atmosphere is incredible. The game is tons of fun to play too - I can't say enough how much it reminds me of taking out enemies in RE4. The game also does a good job of being creepy, and I admit i've fallen for a few jump scares so it's doing its job. I'm really looking forward to finishing this game - hopefully before the next big release (The Last of Us) comes out.

Tales of Graces f (future arc)

So I specifically say future arc because technically, I beat the game. The future arc, from what I've heard, is a 6-7 hour exclusive for the PS3 version of the game. I've already gotten about an hour or so into it, but the grind is definitely settling in. I mean, I like some of the things about graces, and the combat is still pretty satisfying, but I can't get into it the way I got into Vesperia or Symphonia. At one point, I declared that I was done with it - but the curiosity of what happens to the characters like Sophie and Asbel has me intrigued enough to grind through it. I've put it aside due to Dead Space but I plan on trying to get through this one eventually - preferably before Xillia comes out.

So thats my list so far. Slowly but surely, I'm working my way down this massive list of games. After I finish at least Dead Space, I'll probably begin trying to work my way through RE6 which I may or may not regret. But Dead Space does make me want to see how that game was, and since I just have it lying around, I figure why not. We'll see...

Dead Space is great.  I was so ticked off at myself because I pushed off playing dead space 2.  I waited 2 years, that was such a stupid idea.

I want to play the Future Arc.  I beat the game a year ago and I've been meaning to go back to it and see what happened.  I liked that game, maybe not as much as Vesperia, but it was chill.
