How did you get into blogging?

I'm just curious, I wanna know if there are any interesting stories out there. The majority of you are probably like me, you found a site (1up in my case) and after some time realized it had a cool user aspect to it, and decided to write your own stuff, but there might be some cool tales to tell in that regard.

So,

what's your story?

Now you've gone and made me feel boring lol. I had been using 1UP for a long time but then they did that site redisign that added the point system and ranks. I didn't want to be a nooblet every time I visited, so I created an account. Then I started commenting on things and before long I tried blogging and found I liked it. So here I am now at PixlBit, doing mostly the same stuff Smile

I lurked on 1up for a long time before having the guts to come out and write my own blogs. I got tired of simply reading blogs and wanted to contribute. I think I started writing about retro games because I figured nobody would care if my reviews sucked or not. I don't think anybody cares about them anyway lol. I've been doing it for so long and made a lot of good friends so it's hard to stop now.

Not really sure. I had written fanfiction when I was a teenager, then I used to write on forums.

I started writing blogs around 2004 on my own site.  I blogged a couple places, but 1up I really found community and I really liked that.  And now I'm here.

I wanted to be a writer as a teenager, so I started a blog on 1up that was initially mostly Wii fanboyism. I never bought one .... or any other system for that matter.

Through doing Facebook notes. I liked the layout of 1UP, so moved there and focused on games. Now it's Pixlbit and it's still all about games.

Like many, I started on 1Up. I had other blogs, but 1Up was interesting to me because it involved a hobby I just got back into, and there were many interesting folks on there that didn't take themselves too seriously (I saw a bunch of this on the old Playstation forums). There was a bunch of interesting info about not only current gen games, but many were still into playing older games.

I wanted to contribute, give my thoughts about games, and hopefully learn a thing or two. I did that and met some really cool people at the same time.

I actually joined 1up twice. The first time I joined up I didnt even blog, I stayed in the shadows mostly and read other user blogs. I wanted to blog really bad but I was super shy. Eventally I deleted my first site attempt and for the next few years I kind of just started writing randomly on different sites but I didnt blog about gaming even though it is what I wanted to blog about. So back in 2012 I rejoined 1up and began blogging about what I love and Ive been happy ever since. I know my writing isnt professional nor the best but I enjoy it and Im gonna keep on writing.

I would not call what I do Blogging, more like a pore attempt at writing the english language. I started on 1up because it was real cool place to hang out and talk about games, music and what ever.

1UP... :(

I actually started blogging before I was at 1up. I had a personal blog at a different site for several years before then. I got into it because a friend of mine in high school was also on the site and convinced me to try it. I've been doing it ever since. :p

I started on 1up in 2005.  I wanted to write blogs to tell the world how awesome Metal Gear solid is.

I joined 1up back in 2006 but other than the occasional comment I didn't really blog. It wasn't till a few months before 1up went belly up that I started blogging. Still haven't really found a niche in that regard, other than talk up Borderland 2 and lament the slow death of Final Fantasy. I have been writing stories and poetry for years but I won't be posting that stuff here. When they get published eventually I will let ya'll know, lol. In the mean time I hope to be a little more attive here on Pixlbit and expand my topics from the above mentioned.

I didn't start blogging until '05 or '06 but I had plenty of practice from message boards. From 1999-2003 rollingstone.com's message boards were brilliant and vibrant and I fell in with a good group of people that I still communicate until this day. When the message board section went to shit in '04, we started our own message board and at some point, diary/journal-style threads were started. I mostly bitched about my job and anything else that drove me nuts; it was very theraputic. Discussions about film, games (very little with that crowd) and music happened on other threads.

With 1up.com, I didn't blog instantly but read other blogs to get an idea on users commonly talked about, which was anything but mostly gaming. My blogs were very much the same as they are here: updates on what I'm playing, games that I've bought/pissed me off and random stuff. Some people have an idea/plan/purpose when they blog; I blog about whatever is on my mind at the moment. I also blog if I feel what I'm posting is worth the space. I approach facebook and twitter with the same mindset.

I started on 1UP.  I think my first blog was during 2005.  I didn't have any desire to blog, but I wanted to discuss games with new people.

I had read about 1up in EGM and I was interested in the idea of making a profile and connecting with other people. I always had dial-up and 1up was certainly not a dial-up friendly website. For a while I stuck to the more 56k friendly Gamefaqs message boards for my online gaming discussions. I've been a member with them since 2002 and lurked for even longer. Then I got a job at a desk with high speed internet and a crap-ton of downtime. I made a 1up profile and lurked a bit while I learned the ropes. It was long before I wrote my first blog entry in Feburary of 2005.  .

Back in 2009 when I discovered the big sphere of gaming websites like Gamespot and Gametrailers, I wanted to discover sites like that for gaming and it wasn't long enough when I heard in some places about 1up and in the EGM issue of December 2006. After that I visited the site from time to time and read and saw a couple of features, but never got interested in joining a site (My english wasn't very advanced and wasn't very social). That is, untill 2010 when I saw at 1up a particular club called "Gamers for a Better Tomorrow", created by Keyshire Cat (at that time, Tsura Saki) for discussing not only gaming, but for talking about politics, social issues and the like. I found it to be very interesting, so the following days I visited the club regulary as a lurker, which made me have the urge to participate on it. That and when I started to see the profiles of some of the users, I discovered the blogsphere of 1up, which just helped my urge to join in and participate. Then, the 30th of October of 2010, I created an account there, and the rest is history.

I'm not really a 'blogger' as much as I just enjoyed writing and sharing my thoughts about gaming, because gaming is one of the things I'm legitimately passionate about. I love game and I just wanted to surround myself with other people who shared my passion, so I started blogging and contributing to gaming sites!

Actually, there were a few people I used to read a lot on 1up but are now on pixlbit, BrokenH, Chris Yarger, whatsacow and Keegs79 to be more specific. I actually didn't feel the urge to jump in until BrokenH wrote something about the collector edition of Dead Island which featured a bloody torso and the drama it caused. I still read/play more than write, and not as interesting  blogger as those I mentioned.Cool

I've always enjoyed reading about games and the larger issues that have come about recently, this aspect of my personality can't really be spoken about at great length to most people I know in the 'real' world because not many of my friends enjoy playing games like I do. For example I'm seriously enjoying Animal Crossing at the moment but I fear my close friends would baulk at me for enjoying a game where you talk to animals, water plants, catch bugs and have to be nice to the AI. Site like this allow me to explore and enjoy a hobby that so many people just don't get...... especially when your 30!
