Hopefully you guys have checked out my latest feature, and if you have then you might know that I'm pretty stoked for Pokemon X and Y. One thing I didn't really get into was my history with the Anime. I grew up watching it, and stayed with it much longer than I should have. While I have great memories, the show was pretty sub par in the long run. I always wished for a Pokemon anime that represented the games properly. Less miraculous victories, stupid decisions, and I don't know, maybe a protagoinst who actually grows as a character?

Well, upon announcing Pokemon X and Y, they also announced an Anime representation of the original Pokemon Red and Blue (or Green) games, titled Pokemon: The Origin. Rather than following the story of Ash Ketchum, it follows Red, who is the default name for the protagonist in the original games. Though it isn't a full fledged series, the four episode special was meant to highlight the Kanto region, and pay homage to the games that started it all.

The American dub of this special releases in November, but being the impatient and hype person that I am, I opted for a fan-sub. I must say, It was great. Not only was it true to the games, but it featured a ton of fan service. Fans who played Red and Blue might remember certian lines dropped by NPC's that are mentioned in the special. It's a pretty faithful retelling of the story, and anyone who grew up with the originals will likely enjoy it. The action is well done as well, with Pokemon battles being much more fierce than the Ash Ketchum version of the anime.

The only place where the show strays is in the final moments of the last episode, which I wont spoil. That said, it was still cool to see.

Anyway, I recommend it to anyone who might have watched the show or played the games. Its fun, and nostalgic and deserves to be seen. Just thought I'd voice my opinion on it!
