Gamestop! and things that are said in the store!

Today I went to GameStop to pick up Dead Rising. Well while I was there, over heard a conversation between a older lady and what appeared to be her two sons. This is the only really important parts of the conversation, it goes as follows, " No no M rated games or games with people being killed in it, It is a proven fact that people that play violent video games kill people". Let that sit for a bit. What do you think? These kids were exchange students and looked to be about 17 or 18. She would not let them get the Lego games because the legos were killing each other. yup.

Luckily, most people aren't so hyper conservative anymore. But yeah, I feel kind of bad for that old lady's young charges. I doubt "lego games" carry a big fat "M" on them. lol.

She could have said look guys I do not want you playing rated M games but to go and say that plus not letting them get a Legos game. Just sad.

People and their beliefs... Sigh. Either way, the worst thing we can do is condone the woman and call her crazy and say that she's wrong, that reflects badly on the gaming community. If that's her opinion then so be it, we have to respect that no matter how crazy it seems. At least when the kids are able to live on their own they can have their Lego games without someone telling them it's bad for them.

Heck, I used to decapitate and dismember my Lego men long before there were Lego video games. I won't even kill bugs now much less people. Why do people feel the need to fall into an extremist mindset with everything.

Another great example of parents not knowing about video games its like the saying goes guns dont kill people people kill people and moms and dads need to do there homework on video games cause thats nothing but media talk.

Oh and by the way Dead Rising was free on Xbox live.

That's freaking retarded. Damn shame I wasn't in the store. I can't help not correcting someone of their complete bullshit. If she doesn't want them to get M rated games, it's her children, so it's her rules, but don't make up bullshit reasons. Sooner or later, her kids will learn the truth, if they don't already. Her lies (or stupidity) will come back to bite her in the ass.

When I worked at EB Games this family came in and a kid picked up Starcraft and asked if he could get it. The mom yanked it from the kids hands and said "WHAT IS THIS? Some kind of DEVIL...DEVIL-CHILD GAME???" and threw it back in the bin. So yeah, I believe it.

If I was there then I would've chosen that time to politely step in and tell them. "Actually I've been playing "M" rated games long before they were considered "M" rated games. And they've what made me the man I am today." I'd finish with a big toothy grin and skip out of the store singing 'tra-la-la"....

and mind you I'm a 6 foot native american wearing a "Rick Grimes" hat.
