Hi guys, this won't be long, but it's just an update to what I'm doing and what's to come.

Summer is here... finally. This year just flew right on by didn't it? And summer means Steam sales! I ended up stretching $20 pretty thin actually. I got:

- Deus Ex GOTY

- Skyrim

- They Bleed Pixels

- Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon

- Sleeping Dogs

- Tropico 4

I have a really shitty computer right now, so shitty that most games made since 2003 won't run, so I've only been able to play Deus Ex with it. I've been having a lot of fun with that, and I might write something about it afterwards. Once I'm done with that I'll download They Bleed Pixels or finish the first Half-Life.

One the console front, after almost 8 months of sitting on the shelf, I picked up Tales of Xillia. Almost all of my JRPG experience has come orm Fanl Fantasy games, so it's refreshing to start with a different IP. This game plays a lot like a action game, and I've been having a lot of fun with it as well. I'm not too far into it, but since with most RPG that I play, I tend to get very far into the game and then abandon it, I'll write something about it eventually.

In terms of other things I have done so far this summer, I binge watched all of Attack on Titan in 2 (!?) days and I have very mixed to positive feelings about it. This weekend my writing challenge will be to review that series so look out for that.

Also, I've started to learn to program in Python using the codecademy tutorials. Making games looks like a cool hobby and I am chock full of ideas.

I've also started running. I haven't done track in two years and I'm in terrible shape, so I decided to run. The distance from my house to my school is almost exactly 5k, so I'm working on being able to run one in a good time.My goal (no set date limit) is to run a 5k in under 20 minutes.

Things I want to buy:

- 3DS/ Wii U

- better computer

- cross stitch materials (This hobby looked really cool, and this lady on craigslist is selling a bunch of materials so I think I'll try that out and see how it goes)

- guitar lessons (I've had my guitar for almost half a year now, and I think I've noodled around on it enough.)

- vinyl record player ( I was at a yard sale, and I bought a couple of cd's and threre were vinyls too. I bought Bruce Springsteen's Darkness on the Edge of Town and Queen's News of the World. Now I need something to play them on! Anyone vinyl afficionados with some advice for a good quality starter model record player?)

I remember being intrigued by They Bleed Pixel's oldschool platforming vibe combined with a cute creepy girl & a Lovecraft twist! I'll consider a purchase in the future!

Yeah, I didn't know much about it before I got it, but the setting and aesthetics were the main draw for me.

In my opinion the second half is better than the first, so you're right about where it gets good.

It all depends what you want to spend on a 'table and whether you have an amplifier with a phono preamp in it.

Conventional turntables are low output, so plugging one into a CD input won't work. Newer USB 'tables will plug into a computer but generally those would be for ripping vinyl to MP3 rather than listening to music. I imagine you can do it but I can't vouch for the noise that comes out. LOL

I'm in the $300 range. I read a lot and iit seems that you're right, USB ones are not as good. Can you direct me to some trustworthy brands?

This is a great article. Unfortunately the 3 they recommend in the $300 to $500 section are actually between $400 and $450. The good news is that they all come with a phono cartridge so you don't need to buy that separately.

Buying Your First Turntable

All 3 are completely manual, no auto start or stop. It's all you. My preference would be the Rega but the Pro-ject table looks good and comes with an Ortofon cartridge. I've had many cartridges from Ortofon and they are known for their sound.

You may be able to get a better price on them if you look around but that is definitely where I'd start.

cross stitch is cool.  Did it when i was a kid and my mom liked it too.  Hard on the eyes though.

i like running too.  Havent done it for quite some time though

I like records for the sentimentality. I guess that fcomes with CD's too, but you can't really get attached to a digital file of a song can you? LOL

Soundwise Vinyl > CD >>>>>>> MP3. Even the best quality digital files have most of the life from the original performance sucked right out of them.

A good vinyl pressing of a properly recorded performance will always come out on top in blind testing.

I remember having people over who thought that CDs were perfect. so I put the same album in my $1000 CD player and my $500 turntable  and flipped back and forth. They went on and on about how much better the CD was during the demo oblivious to the fact that what they thought was the CD was actually vinyl.

Finished episodes 1-13 of Titan, It's rare an anime has me not only at the edge of my seat but being surprised at every level, I just hope it can keep the momentum.

I have Sktrim and Deus EX: HR but I haven't ben bothered to play eitherFrown

I want to buy a 3DS XL but i think it'll have to wait till I get a Wii U.

From what I've heard, Deus Ex HR is similar to the first Deus Ex, so if you enjoy having a lot of choices in an action game, this one's for you!

Titan really defied all my expectations going in to it. I thought is was just some stereotypical anime, but it turned out to be really cool.

Yay Tropico 4! I've been having a lot of fun with that the past month or so. Good game & nice list overall.

I currently have a inexpensive portable turntable.  It works for the time being, but eventually I will need to splurge and get a nice one.

Heck yeah for Steam Sales. I'm like you in wanting a faster PC, but I'm in no hurry. I'm currently just collecting the freebie games for when I do get one and I'll already have a built-in backlog Tongue Out

As for record players the one piece of advice is if you can try and check them out in person. I usually try and get folks to not go for the ones you see at a Target, because you can find better quality ones from Amazon usually for a little bit more.

another steam sale buyer. there must be something to steam even if it is on PC itself.

There is more to the JRPG genre than just Final fantasy. Good to see your broadening your perspectives. There is more to life than *shudders* Lightening...

Attack on Titan you say....
