I don't know what to tell you. If I had not already gotten a PS4 I would be in the same boat. What I can say is that I still want a Wii U, eventhough the name is stupid.
I’m torn in getting an Xbox One or PS4 for Destiny

Can’t decide even now.
Destiny is out now and I’m still on the fence on how to get this game, or even what system to play it on. It all started when a coworker broke down and bought an Xbox One, with the intention of playing Destiny on it. Though he still has an Xbox 360 he really wanted to get a game to “justify” buying a new generation console. I filled him in mostly about my experience with the beta and despite his misgivings he was ready for what Bungie had to offer.
But then my bro out east decided to get a PS4 in preparation for Destiny as well. (He knew of the PS4 bundle pack but passed given how he didn’t want to wait and he didn’t like white.) Though he was originally a MS fan on Xbox 360 he got fed up with all BS MS did during the Xbox One role out along with other 360 issues.
So now I am torn. Though both my coworker and my bro didn’t say they want me to join them (my bro since we go back to our “halo homo” days & my coworker because he doesn’t know many Xbox One gamers).
And what’s worse (kind of) is that I actually have the funds to get a next gen system. “Teh wife” and I crunched the numbers and found we have the funds to afford either an Xbox One or PS4. So now it’s up to us in deciding what we’d like to get.
But I’m torn in how to choose.
The reasons can be summed up into three reasons.
HD Upgrading.
If I’ve learned anything from the last generation of console gaming, the HD space offered was not enough for me. I’ve had to upgrade my PS3 and Xbox 360 THREE TIMES. The Xbox 360 from 120 GB to 250GB then finally to 320 GB. My PS3 from 60GB to 160GB to ultimately 1TB! So whichever system I get I’m going to upgrade them to at least 1TB or over of memory. But should I go with a standard HDD or an SSHD? It would be cheaper to go for standard HDD but given how you’ll be deleting games to make due with HD space, an SSHD might seem more practical for hard drive stability. And then their taking into account the differences of HD upgrading between the PS4 and Xbox one, PS4 being internal and Xbox One being external. If last gen has taught me something I want to just upgrade my console’s HD once and be done with it. I don’t want to mess with it down the road during the console’s lifecycle and beyond.
Bundles or individuals
Not sure if I should buy a bundle pack or try to build my own system given the options I have right now for getting the game. The PS4 route seems easiest given the white bundle offered. But then there is the Xbox One offer where you can now get a free game this week if you buy and Xbox One right now. And that also includes bundles too not including ones that offer free gift cards and subscriptions to Xbox Live. And let’s not touch on the new generation upgrade offer where if you buy the Xbox 360 or PS3 version of Destiny you can upgrade to the Xbox One or PS4 versions of the game for free. So many options to choose from. And that’s not even considering how Destiny plays/looks on their respective console releases either new gen or last gen.
Still on the fence with Destiny itself.
When I played the beta I thought the game was okay. It didn’t really wow me but it was fun. To me it felt like a cross between an MMO, halo and borderlands in the realms of gameplay, scope and graphics. But at the same time if I wanted to play an MMO, halo and borderlands I’d play those games respectively. Destiny didn’t quite sell me given how the big push for enjoying the game has the social aspect of playing this game. And given I’m a bit of a social recluse I wasn’t sure if this game would be a smart $60 investment, either as a physical or digital buy. And that’s not taking into account the add ons and the future expansion packs. Having the single player mode only accessible online didn’t help matters any given my preference to OWNing a game I’d be able to play years after the main servers go offline.
“Teh Wife” is partial to PS4 given her loyalty to Sony (our TV, Bluray, Theatre system, camera and video camcorder are all Sony) but it might seem easier to get an Xbox One given how I already have Live and it’s sharable between MS systems. Plus there is my Bro and my coworker to think about.
I got till the end of the week to decide on which system to get, if at all along with getting Destiny.
What say you fellow gamers? What would you do?
