Octoberween 2014 has begun!

It’s the time for that most demented time of the year once again! As the leaves turn color, the wind grows colder, the darkness comes sooner and the local farmers start their annual summer brush burn offs, I too begin to continue my time honored tradition of celebrating my favorite holiday: Octoberween.  As usual I’m begun to dig out my egg launcher, hunt down decent pumpkins, and decorate the house in blacks and oranges. And as before I’ve found myself digging thru my libraries of various media of books, movies and videogames to ensure I am well entertained this year. I’ve grown amazed with every passing year in how long I’ve been doing these Octoberween blogs. Originally they started out on 1up.com with nothing more than a Top 11 game picks in a single blog. But as time progressed my Octoberween exploits have grown and morphed in ways that I could never foresee when it came to not just gaming, but blogging in general. And with the death of 1up.com (as in I’m unable to log into the site to post blogs) I’ve decided that a change is in order.

This year I’ve decided to continue the tradition I started last year with multi-format blogs that encompass the whole aspects of what I do during this time of year. If things work out this could be my Octoberween BlogADay thing. But with it come some changes. Not only will I continue with my Guilty Viewing/Listening/Reading Pleasure series along with Octoberween inspired blogs, I’ll also sprinkle in video embeds of Halloween themes that fit my fancy at this moment. I’m also hoping to invite others to join in with my Octoberween festivities by asking that any and all to blog about what you do during your Halloween exploits. But the biggest changes of them all this year will be the format of my Top 11 Halloween Game titles this year. In the past I’ve called them Halloween games of that numbered year, and for the most part I’ve tried my best to number them from least to most favorable to Halloween gaming. But given the death of 1up.com I’ve decided to revisit some past titles that I think could deserve another chance since I didn’t cover them before on pixlbit, IGN or xpstar.com. Also though the titles will be numbered from 11 to 1, I won’t try to grade them from best to worst

My List will still try to offer the obscure and unusual but for the most part they should be considered as an alternative list than a definitive list. This change should reflect this with my Top 11’s new title: My Top 11 Octoberween Titles of 2014! I thought I’d give this a try since Top 10 lists are starting to fall out of favor, with little to no changes to the format. Plus most of these games may not even be on people’s radar this year given what we are to expect this year with Slender: The Arrival, Costume Quest 2 and The Evil Within.

So sIt back, get some candy corn and see if you can keep up with this plan of 31 blogs during my month of Octoberween. I hoping I can keep up with this ambitious plan. There is fun to be had and Octobeween is the perfect time release the EVIL.

I'm glad you call it Octoberween because Hallotober sounds like another name for bad breath.

All I have to say is, PUMKINS AND GOURDS, PUMPKINS AND GOURDS. I love taking pictures of all the piles of pumpkins and gourds at various farmer's markets and grocery stores around me. Maybe I'll frame all my blogs for the month in them. That would be cool.

That sounds like an excellent idea! Share your interest in all things Octoberween, I'd be curious to see what you find in displays.

I'm thinking in re-visiting Amnesia: The Dark Descent and talk how it scares my pants.

I'd read up on that. That game won't be in my Top 11 Octoberween Game Titles this year since I'm not much into PC gaming. Hope you do share!

its my favorite time of year.  I began a playthrough of Diablo III - Reaper Of Souls Ulimate Evil Edition to commemorate the fall.

I hope you let us know how your playthrough went. It would make an excellent blog for this month of Octoberween.

I had ambitious plans for October last year and was able to follow through on pretty much all of them. I think it's the most blogs I've ever posted in a single month (outside of Blog a Day, of course). But not so this year. I've been too busy and haven't consumed enough spooky media to really make it worthwhile. But I'm looking forward to what you have in store for the month. Hopefully I'll be able to at least read it all, if not comment.

I really enjoyed all you did last year (except for that ONE castlevania remix) and it's a shame you can't join it. But that is understandable. I hope your able to enjoy reading up on what I have to share. So long as people are able to read I'd be more than greatful.
