After the day I had to day I thought I’d switch gears and try to go for a laugh. After all you can’t spell manslaughter without laughter. Plus my netbook is acting funny. Here’s a classic video clip that I’ve come to enjoy during this time of year. It’s the Nostalgia Critic with his review of the creepy toy that is Teddy Ruxpin. Enjoy.

Fun fact: I showed this to my “Little One” back in the day and she found it hilarious. A few days later I got a call from her elementary school informing me she tried to destroy a classmate’s Teddy Ruxpin after show and tell with the class dictionary saying “it was of the devil.” She makes me so proud.

One of my younger cousins had Teddy Ruxpin back in the day.  I always wanted to try and put other tapes in it, but she wouldn't let me.  I never had a diesire to own one of those when I was a kid.  I read somewhere that one of the Teddy Ruxpin designers went on to make video games or something.

I never knew anyone personally who owned one myself but I did hear stories of kids putting other tapes in to see if they worked. Never found out the outcome though.

If the stories are true, the same company that distributed Teddy Ruxpin was also the same company that helped to put Nintendo Entertainment Systems in mainstream department stores back in the day.

My Teddy's name is Teddy Ruxpin. He talks, he tells stories, he........

The Teddy Ruxpin commercial was a kid doing show and tell with the thing so the kid who brought their's in to your child's school was like a total rip off.

.....wants to eat your soul and drain your happiness!!!!

I only wonder if that kid in my "Little One"s class even realized it. I think it was a CD version thus why the parents tried to claim a high dollar amount for replacement.

Ruxpin has nothing on Tickle Me Elmo.  That thing was evil.

Furby ...

I actually had a co-worker claim that Furbies were meant as spiritual vehicles that were meant to be used as posession dolls to taunt and manipulate children to do their evil bidding.

Probably.

I never had the pleasure in knowing what a Tickle Me Elmo has for an evil factor. Perhaps a video will be made one day.

There's still a Teddy Ruxpin doll in the closet of my room at my parent's house.

There would be no way I'd go back in there and open that closet door. I'd be afraid I would open it and it would say "I've been waiting for you...."

Nah, there's no tape in it. And to be honest, I actually think the thing looks cute, even if that whole put a tape in its back thing was creepy even without the crappy sound quality.

That guy's scream when he found out Ruxpin was the devil was priceless.

Only the Nostalgia Critic can scream like that and make it teriffyingly hilarious.
