Nice grabs! I once owned a copy of Morrowind GOTY but I never played it. I gave it to a friend who had recently bought one of the first Xbox systems and I figure I should give it to someone who'll get some use out of it. I need to text him to see how he felt. At time I bought it, I was well into Skyrim.
I couldn't get away with skipping any days of high school. Skipped a handful of days of college, though.
I think Ebert wrote one too many articles about the subject but I think that all he was doing was stating a preference about video games, not passing judgement on people who do. Its still a young entertainment medium so it won't reach everyone, especially a man who wrote extensively about film, books, art and music (through reviews or blog posts). Since he died, people are being a little kind about the fact that he never took an different side on the "games as art" debate. But during the period where the backlash was at its height (and Ebert was defending himself quite well), I never saw the big deal.
Well done, sir. My PS2 library used to be acceptable but I'm down to 6 titles now. It's embarrasing.
Through any systems we shared, he would tend to buy more sports games than me. However, he did buy the copy of Shenmue.
For my tastes, I've never enjoyed the GTA series despite the fact that, with III up to present, they have made advances in game design that I can admire. It's just not my thing. I would watch my brother play that and it just didn't look like fun. He enjoyed it as well as San Andreas. It's just not my cup of tea. Also, GTA2 looks antiquated now.
90-93: I spent a lot more time playing computer games than console games. My brother would find some good deals on certain titles and because of him, I had access to Wolfenstein 3-D, Doom, Jack Nicklaus Golf, Joe Montana Football, X-Wing, Where In Europe is Carmen Santiago and most importantly: Star Trek 25th Annivesary. This is the best Star Trek game to me and while I wasn't terribly good at it (I usually got destroyed by the Romulans in the third episode), it was a joy to play through every time.
Also, Street Fighter II for the SNES meant all in the world to me. Rarely did I get to go to arcades so getting this for my birthday was fantastic. I recall initially being frustrated at not pulling off any of the special moves until my brother showed me how to correctly make the motions with the directional pad (eh, I was a noob at fighting games in general). I devoured any EGM issue that featured game coverage and finished the game with every character on every difficulty. These days I'm so rusty that I forgot most of the character moves.
That DiVinyls song is much more pleasing to my ears than the DK64 song. I know that's not saying much, but still...

I like the gaming setup. That looks like my bedroom setup, only the tv is a 27" and an SNES is hooked up. My PS2/Gamecube collection is around the same number as well (it used to be bigger).
