Memorial Day, Far Cry 3 owns my life and one purchase

Loved Far Cry 3. Especially taking the outposts. So many options on how to do it.

I have about 200 pages left in Book 5 of ASoIaF. After that... I play the waiting game for Book 6 I guess. Love the series so much though. I am going to try some other books when i'm done. I hadn't read much post-college before getting into these, so hoping it makes me a reader again.

Say What You Want About the Xbox 1

If it is anything like my 360, stacking it won't be an option because I'll have to keep it a good ten feet away from all other electronics to keep the whole entertainment center from bursting into flames.

Alternate response: You won't need to worry about stacking anything on it, because Xbox One does everything you'd ever need. You can get rid of the rest of your silly boxes.

Why I Cannot Beat the Tomb Raider Reboot

Posted on 05/11/2013 at 08:29 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I don't really care about the "ludonarrative disonnance" which is my new least favorite term when discussing games. And yet I don't blame anyone for taking issue with it here. Especially since the game's marketing decided to jam the story and Lara's new grounded character down our throats.

Anyway, I agree with the rest. It is a shame. They finally got the budgeting and marketing and time that CD deserved to make a new TR game after their last few and they didn't make a TR game at all. They had this very special unique product before that delivered something no one else does. And even know it was unpolished and low budget at times, it was giving us something unique. Some of these new elements could have been worked in perfectly into it too and instead we got this.

Also because I don't think I've gotten to bitch about it enough, the hunting was so useless. It feels like a relic of the game's design when it likely had more of a survival element which just got left in and serves no purpose. There are even ration boxes that just give you XP. Blech.

Kind of sucks this reboot went over so well. Because I don't see the franchise ever being what I loved again. And we certainly didn't need a game that is just a greatest hits of recent game design (Uncharted meets FC3 meets Batman, etc.) mashed together in a less cohesive package that doesn't do the individual elements well.

Why 3D Makes Better 3DS Games

Posted on 04/19/2013 at 12:38 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I remember thinking there'd be less touch based games because of the bigger 3D top screen when the 3DS was announced. I actually thought of it as a negative myself. I liked seeing creative stuff like Ninja Gaiden DS with its book style presentation and touch controls. But you may be right that the only way to reign in devs is to limit their options. Which is unfortunate as they should be able to do that on their own.

I really loved the PSP. Not sure we exactly dig the same type of games, but I think Patapon is worth a look for you maybe. I'm sure there is a demo if you hop on the PS Store. Worth a try I think (I was also going to suggest LocoRoco, but it seems you got them already).

I'm a pretty casual player of this series, so it sounds like I will enjoy it. And even if the combat isn't quite on the level of the earlier games, if it is close, it will still be better than like 90% of combat in games out there. How are the boss fights in general?

5 Series I Want to See Platinum Games Take On

Posted on 04/10/2013 at 12:49 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I need to try more of Platinum's games. I have Vanquish sitting here. I have only tried its demo which was pretty good. These sound like neat ideas. I'd no doubt buy that Halo game. There's definitely some potential cool boss fights lurking in the Halo universe that can't really be done in a shooter, but could be explored in a more melee focused game I feel.

4 years and counting, still no NeoGAF account

I am a member over there. I signed up four or five years ago. I think it took me about six months to get approved or whatever (it seems I lucked out... maybe because I used my college email?). I had honestly forgot I had applied when I got approved.

Most gaming threads feel too big and move too fast over there though. It feels like you are whispering in a giant crowd. I kind of prefer small communities where it feels like people actually read your posts (like here at PixlBit). The one thing I really like is the TV threads and some of the other smaller community threads (the LEGO thread is really great) as they aren't as huge as the gaming side. I always have good discussions on there and everyone knows me in those TV threads.

I wish I had some sway over there, so I could help you get approved, but I imagine if I messaged a mod they wouldn't know who I was... haha.

I see my choice to wait for NG3: RE to drop in price might be a good one. The demo was filled with issues and it just seemed like even after three attempts by the dev I'd still be disappointed in this one. I am going to jump on Skype one night when I get the chance as I'd love to just discuss some Ninja Gaiden in depth since you have gotten more into this series since we last chatted.

Also Alucard with a whip? Blech.
