Cleaning up My Vita: Axiom Verge

Posted on 05/18/2016 at 12:36 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I really enjoyed Axiom Verge too, but I got stuck probably 3/4 through the game and never got past it.  I ran around the entire game area a few times trying to figure it out, but eventually put the game down for a little while.  When I picked it back up I tried to consult a walkthrough, but by that time I had kind of forgot what I was doing and therefore became frustrated trying to figure out where in the walkthough I needed to look.  I need to just start over again at some point once I get through my backlog.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Review

I really like the series, but this is my biggest gripe also. It often penalizes you for figuring out what evidence to present before they want you too, and sometimes makes you go through some illogical step in between (such as presenting some other evidence at another statement where it even explicitly tells you that even Phoenix doesn't know why he is presenting it, he just knows he has to do something).

Breaking News!

I'm putting off getting this game until I have cleared up some of my backlog.  I'm currently playing Salt and Sanctuary.  Have you checked that out yet?  It's basically a 2D Souls game with some metroidvania thrown in.  It has bonfire equivalents, currency that has to be taken back from enemies after dying, healing items that refresh after dying or when at a 'bonfire', emphasis on blocking/parrying (or you can go down the magic route), tough but fair enemies, huge bosses, dark atmosphere, etc. It steals so much from the Souls games but still manages to be it's own unique and fun thing.

I would highly recommend it to anyone that likes Dark Souls.  I was unsure about it for the first couple hours (and still don't really like the character design), but once I got the hang of it I was hooked.

Are Walking Simulators Really Video Games?

I completely agree.  Call them whatever the fuck you want, but I'm glad they exist. I've enjoyed most of them that I've played (which is the majority that have made it to consoles).  I just played through firewatch today and thought it was a great experience. I don't understand why so many people were disappointed with the ending.  I'm not sure what they were expecting.

I just finished episode 5 of Daredevil season 2 and am loving it. I agree, this is by far the best on-screen version of the punisher.

I'm curious about your comments about Elektra though. I'm only one episode in with her (ep 5) but so far it seems pretty accurate with what I remember from her original writing by Frank Miller. The flashbacks especially were pretty spot-on with her Man Without Fear characterization.  I admit I haven't read too much with her in it post-Miller, and also have only one episode to judge her so far, so I might change my mind.

BaD #15: Image Comics

Posted on 02/19/2016 at 10:20 PM | Filed Under Blogs

Image has a lot of good books out right now. I started picking up some of their comics again a couple years ago and was surprised how much they had changed. I remember back when Image first started and I bought every single #1 issue they came out with. Looking back, most of them weren't all that good, and I soon stopped buying anything from the publisher for many years.

Currently I am reading Saga, The Walking Dead, Sex Criminals, Sex, Wicked+Divine, Morning Glories and Trees.  I would recommend all of them. I tried reading Black Science, but never really got into it.  Judging by the reviews I read it sounded like something I would like, but after reading the first six issues or so I gave up on it. I can see why some people are into it, but it's just not for me.

Grandia II and Soul Hackers - Getting Back To It.

I "beat" Soul Hackers a couple weeks ago.  I use quotation marks because I actually only made it about halfway through the next-to-last dungeon and for some reason decided it was time to stop playing (can't remember exactly why, probably one-shot killed or something similar).  I watched the last 1.5 hours or so on a 'Let's Play' video just to finish up the story, skipping over the random battles.

I'm sure I could have really beat it if I persisted, but I just wanted to get on to something new.  I really enjoyed it though.  I think I went over half the game before I decided to switch on the map hack.

What's Your Most Anticipated Game Right Now?

There are several I'm looking forward to, such as Dark Souls 3, Fallout 4, The Last Guardian, and Metal Gear Solid 5 (yeah, it's already out, but I have a few other games I need to finish before I get it) .  However, I'm most looking forward to either Persona 5 or the new Zelda.

Question of the Day: What Was Your First JRPG?

Posted on 10/16/2015 at 09:50 PM | Filed Under Blogs

Dragon Warrior. I got it with that really great Nintendo Power promotion (free game plus several free Power Guides) and really enjoyed it. I liked it so much I spent a lot of time trying to find  the sequel in stores, but I was never able to find it for sale anywhere.  I eventually forgot about this type of game and don't think I played another jrpg until Quest 64. That game was so horrible that I was scared off of the genre until much later.

I hate people

I hate almost everyone playing online video games.  Between people do things like this, and other dick heads who get pissed at you for not being as good as them when you are first starting out with a game, I rarely ever play cooperative games.  The only time I really ever play multiplayer games (which is rare) is to play free-for-all deathmatches.
