BaD #15: Image Comics

I decided to dip into the Image Comics ocean recently and bought a couple books. The first one is a new series called Descender. Here, let me grab the blurb from Amazon: "Young Robot boy TIM-21 and his companions struggle to stay alive in a universe where all androids have been outlawed and bounty hunters lurk on every planet. Written by award-winning creator, Jeff Lemire, Descender is a rip-roaring and heart-felt cosmic odyssey. Lemire pits humanity against machine, and world against world, to create a sprawling epic." Apparently there are huge world-destroying robots called Harvesters too. It sounds cool and has great reviews and I'm rather excited to read it.

The other one is a well-established series called Black Science. Again, from Amazon: "Grant McKay, former member of The Anarchistic Order of Scientists, has finally done the impossible: He has deciphered Black Science and punched through the barriers of reality. But what lies beyond the veil is not epiphany, but chaos. Now Grant and his team are lost, living ghosts shipwrecked on an infinite ocean of alien worlds, barreling through the long-forgotten, ancient, and unimaginable dark realms. The only way is forward, through the madness of the lightning sea-swamp and a futurepast trenchworld, where the Sons of the Wakan Tech-Tanka wage never-ending war on the savages of Europe! How did the Anarchist League of Scientists end up this deep in the onion? And, who among them sabotaged the Pillar?" This one sounds super trippy but again, it's got great reviews.

Anybody else read these?

I have the first two trades of Black Science on a pile to read.  As well as saga, sex criminals and the last 7 issues of Trees.

I've managed to read the comics I get as I get them for the most part. The main thing that still waiting to be read is that Dark Horse Aliens omnibus I found at Goodwill last year. Or was it the year before now? Dang, I need to read that Tongue Out

Image has a lot of good books out right now. I started picking up some of their comics again a couple years ago and was surprised how much they had changed. I remember back when Image first started and I bought every single #1 issue they came out with. Looking back, most of them weren't all that good, and I soon stopped buying anything from the publisher for many years.

Currently I am reading Saga, The Walking Dead, Sex Criminals, Sex, Wicked+Divine, Morning Glories and Trees.  I would recommend all of them. I tried reading Black Science, but never really got into it.  Judging by the reviews I read it sounded like something I would like, but after reading the first six issues or so I gave up on it. I can see why some people are into it, but it's just not for me.

As they say, there's no accounting for taste lol. I really don't know anything about Image or how they've changed. They're just one of the big indie comics publishers. A lot of their stuff does look really interesting though.

You're the second person to mention Trees. Hmm...

The Descender comic looks great. I actually watched The Martian tonight, so I'm digging the space theme.

The Martian is one of those things where I'd really like to read the book first. Not for any particular reason—I hear the movie is quite good—but I'd still like to read it first lol.

You're making me miss comics so badly. I read Black Science. Really fun.

Um, comics are lousy and boring. Definitely not worth your time anymore. I'm sure Black Science has turned very dull since you read it. (How am I doing?)
