Dead Rising 3 Review

Posted on 01/14/2014 at 04:27 PM | Filed Under Review

Great Review Chris! One of the things that left me feeling iffy about DR3 was the seeming lack of weight behind character movement/interaction; especially after something like Dark Souls, which has a lot of physics/timing behind it, the gameplay on this looked as though it could feel a bit "floaty". Also, the random weapon breaking felt a little gimmicky to me, as opposed to actual wear and tear and breakage that would happen to a weapon, but that's just me.

This might be an Amazon venture in the near future. SH2 is still an experience unlike anything else - I don't think any other game I've played conjures up the feelings of hopelessness that it embodies. It's like I need to hurry up and play some Yoshi's Island to lighten the mood after lol!

I think that Seussian rhyme is actually now the official slogan of E3!

And Minecraft is a great example of a title's visuals working in cohesion with the gameplay. I bet the first time some MBA at a AAA publisher saw Minecraft, they immediately thought "This is a VIDEO GAME? Where are the guns, the stubble, and the veiny arms, Brah?"

Thanks man! I think I will - narrowing everything down to a top ten will be a bitch, but it will be worth it. And Oblivion/New Vegas will be next up to tackle after Dark Souls, which I  will finally be able to get back too now that I may have a minute to breath after climbing out of a damn mountain of freelance.

Agreed - only if they could maintain the level of detail, which would honestly be a stretch, even given PC capabilities, let alone consoles. But one can dream!

Also, if they do set the game around the Aldmeri Dominion's collapse, I'd love to see the return of the Snow Elves/playable Snow Elves!

Very, very solid Top 10, dude! It's always interesting seeing people's choices for their favorite titles, and this list has some really awesome stuff on it. I loved Fallout 3 and have yet to play New Vegas, so I think I need to pick that up. I actually haven't played Oblivion, but I've been thinking of picking that up, too because Skyrim is my shit. Would it be worth it?

I think you've inspired me to narrow down my own top ten and do a feature on here!

I've seen this video series, it is pretty solid! Transmet makes a great point; if you look at gaming from a quality standpoint in terms of aging, it's no wonder why so many gamers stand by those classic SNES titles, as well as a whole new generation who is discovering them for the first time and gravitating towards Retro Gaming.

Obviously, a gaming experience such as The Last of Us' is enhanced by its graphical prowess, but I can't say that the game accomplishes more visually than TellTale's The Walking Dead or even Chrono Trigger, in the same way that I can't say Skyrim is more immersive than A Link To The Past. In my opinion, graphical fidelity's only importance is the degree that it helps developers bring their vision to life, and that is a very subjective thing.  I think games like Earthbound, the Kirby franchise, SMW, and many others are far more visually compelling than most titles that strive for "realism", and they'll age much better to boot.

I think the reason why graphics are marketed as a game's selling point is the fact that publishers aren't catering to established gamers, they are trying to reach people that are more casual with their gaming tastes. If publishers would realize why we play video games in the first place, you would see that approach change.

I'm going to take a wild swing and say that The Elder Scrolls VI will be based around the Aldemiri Dominion's collapse, and the ensuing war between the Elf clans, which could actually mean us seeing more of the Shimmering Isles, Morrowind, and maybe even Valenwood! Can you image a Tri-continent, full single player Elder Scrolls?! Good god!!

Getting this! This game was already pretty damn solid, and between "Breakdown" and The Walking Dead S2 E1 I am going to be having a very zombie Christmas!

I've wondering that myself, and it may have made it easier, but if they had continued that feature further I think if the developers wanted to ramp up the challenge they could have. I agree it was a great feature that was a lot of fun!

And there was a TON of work that went into SOTN, no doubt - their art team absolutely killed it!
