Sonic was the main reason that I ended up with a Genesis and not a Super Nintendo during those days of my youth. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Mario and still do, but Sonic was like nothing I had ever seen. I mean the game was wicked fast and filled with ‘tude, and as you’re all aware ‘tude was just as good as gold bricks in the early to mid 90s. 

I wanted a Genesis so badly that I held my own little yard sale with the prize deal being my NES with two controllers, zappers, and about ten games for $60. I happily parted ways with my little gray video game machine that day as the sale pushed me over my goal and I proceeded to bug the ever loving crap out of my parents until they agreed to transport me to Wal-Mart so that I could pick up my brand new Sega Genesis bundled with Sonic 2 – the best game of all time as far as I was concerned. I didn’t regret that purchase in the least and it was the beginning of a beautiful relationship for Sonic, Tails and I…until the age of 3D, that is. Then it got messy…

Was I the only one who was able to play both Sonic and Mario games in the '90s, shamelessly and without interpersonal conflict?

truth be told i never played a lot of sonic....i was more taken with Fatal Fury during the brief time i owned a genesis. out of the sonic games i HAVE played though, I enjoyed sonic spinball the most.

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen an entry in the Metroid Prime series - 18 years, in fact. It was 8 years ago that Metroid Prime 4 was originally announced and its development was more than a little turbulent. Initially developed by Bandai Namco, it was later scrapped completely and development was shifted back to Retro Studios to start the project over. In the end, Retro has delivered a solid new entry in the series, but one that doesn’t totally capture what originally made the series so compelling.
