Xbox One is the Future

Like it or not, Microsoft's policies are a harbinger of things to come.

It’s safe to say that Sony delivered an impressive showing at their E3 press conference and gained a ton of good will with gamers looking to upgrade to next generation consoles. While it’s far too early to declare the PS4 the winner of the next console war (the systems are five months away, after all), many people in the gaming community have latched on to the system since it still offers gamers the freedom to trade, sell, and buy used games. It would be foolish to count Microsoft out at this point, however, and even if many elements of the Xbox One are less than attractive, people should understand that it’s a glimpse into the future.

Crimson Shroud Review

You must roll an 18 or higher to enjoy this game. Roll 1 D20. Add an additional D10 if you enjoy RPGs in general. Additionally, add 1 D8 if you enjoy JRPGs, 1 D6 if you like tabletop RPGs, 1 D6 for western RPGs, and 1 D4 for MMORPGs. Finally, add +2 to your total if you’ve ever been LARPing.

Have you ever played a tabletop RPG? If not, the formula in my abstract may sound like some sort of foreign language to you. Essentially, a tabletop RPG is a lot like a video game RPG but instead of a computer calculating random numbers, dice rolls determine all your actions. Will your attack hit? Roll some dice according to a formula. How much damage will it do? Roll another set of dice. Will the attack be critical? Roll again. You get the idea. You honestly can’t even eat a snack without rolling for initiative. It’s this problem that gave rise to the digital version of the RPG, which replaces dice rolls with random numbers generated by a computer.

Fact: Wearing tighty whities on your head gives you telekinetic powers.

Black Pants aims to break out from the indie pack with Tiny and Big: Grandpa’s Leftovers, a puzzle/platform game based around slicing through pretty environments to cut a path to victory. While it has a quirky sense of humor and an interesting core game mechanic, it's nothing special.

Closure Review

Getting stuck in this darkness will break you down with glimpses of scary hospitals, factories and circuses (oh my).

Closure has been haunting gamers since its release, and it’s easy to see why. A two dimensional, monochromatic platformer almost entirely shrouded in darkness, this game  has the ability to teach all of its players how to see the light.

Journey Review

Journey is just that and then some.

At its core Journey’s focus is on something we do every day without thinking about it – walking.  We walk around our homes, we walk to our cars, and some of us may even walk to where we are going throughout the day.  Even those of us who are unable to walk with our legs find some other means of locomotion to trek to and fro.  Basic movement to us is like breathing – we do it unconsciously even though it is an important aspect of life.  So when I say that Journey is about walking, I am saying that Journey is about something we take for granted.  It’s about what happens on our way from point A to point B.

In the three years since the release of Flower, thatgamecomplany has been working on a new video game experience that makes it clear that it’s not the destination that matters, but the path you take to get there.  Journey, a PSN exclusive, is described by Creative Director Jenova Chen in the Official PlayStation Blog as an, “interactive parable, an anonymous online adventure to experience a person’s life passage their interactions with other’s.”
