Fish Out of Water is a game about skipping fish (and some mammals) along the surface of the ocean like stones, trying to get as far as possible. It's as simple as that and yet much more complicated. First of all, you have quite a few different kinds of creatures to toss and they all work a little differently. There's your normal default fish which is basically an orange rock but also a dolphin that goes in and out of the water and some guppy brothers that breaks apart into multiple fish when thrown and a pufferfish that, well, puffs up and nearly rolls at the end of his throw. That's just to name a few. You collect crystals from playing that can be used to create single-use charms to help your throws or to buy costumes for your fish that change their throwing properties. The weather also changes between calm and sunny and stormy, which can really affect the way your fish bounce, and there are little missions to complete as you go.
There's a lot to sink your teeth into if you want but to be honest I'm not really interested in digging into this game's mechanics. Thankfully, it's also super easy to just jump in and throw a few fish. You're graded by a bunch of crabs after three throws, and you can easily do all that in a minute. Apparently there are leagues for competition with other people too, but I haven't dabbled in any of that. Overall, Fish Out of Water is a fun little game that hasn't really grabbed me but I still find myself coming back to for a few throws, and that seems like a decent recommendation to me.
