BaD #10: A Day with The Firm

The Firm icon The Firm is a game about buying or not buying stocks. A stack of proposed deals constantly rises on your desk and you want to buy (swipe right) stocks with rising profits or falling expenses and sell those with falling profits and rising expenses. After a while the game introduces newspaper reports that tell you about certain companies that are doing well or poorly. If those stocks show up in your stack (and thankfully they are visually distinct), you have to remember whether to buy or sell them. When the stack spills over the top of your desk you get fired. The game takes a dark twist here because the screen goes black and you hear the sound of glass shattering. The camera opens back up at the foot of the skyscraper where the body of your poor little trader lies on the cement. A line of people stretches out of the door, waiting to take the new vacancy. Yay for big business in corporate America!

There's not a lot of depth in The Firm but I don't think there has to be. Ultimately it's just a quick reaction game but it's a pretty good one. And there are some cumulative progression goals to reach to help give the game some long-form structure. If you enjoy this kind of game, then this one is not a bad choice. At the very least it has a novel premise.

I think I might try this. I hate how much I suck at the GTA V stock market.

Go for it! I can't speak to the GTA V stock market but I'm pretty sure this is how the real one works Tongue Out

Actually, GTA V is also pretty close and you're reading news stories to make decisions there too. I just get greedy and don't sell soon enough.

Sounds pretty boring.  It baffled me when HAL released Wall Street Kid on the NES.

I've never played Wall Street Kid (it does sound dry) but this is just window dressing on a fun little game.
