Games Beaten

-Star Fox Zero (Wii U)

Let's start with the bad. Yes, the controls are pretty complicated—a little too much, probably—but you do get used to them. There are also two levels that are kind of boring but those are easily avoided by taking the alt boss of level 1. The game on the whole is really good. Lots of tense moments and it looks and sounds great. There are not as many levels or paths through the game as SF64 had but there's still decent variety. Not the best entry in there series but a solid second, I'd say.

-Sonic CD (PSN)

With the 2D Sonic games, I enjoy trying to get through them as quickly as possible and though that's what Sonic is famous for, it's not solely how the old games were designed. I'm not a fan of Sonic exploration or the 3D bonus levels but I still had fun playing through the game, plus it has a Time Attack mode. The game looks good and plays well and has two great soundtracks to choose from. It's a quality 2D Sonic romp, even if I don't care to go for the best ending.

-Freedom Wars (Vita) (PS+)

Having played Monster Hunter and God Eater, FW adds some nice variety to the subgenre. I love the thorn, FW's versatile grappling hook-esque mechanic. The game's theme seems fresh and it's nice to not be fighting giant monsters this time. I liked the story even though it was light on the finer details. Interesting world. I don't like that upgrading is basically the only way to get better weapons and the difficulty can be rather uneven late in the game/postgame. Still, it was fun with friends. I'll probably keep playing it for a little while yet.

Games Bought

Other than the PS+ games, the only thing I bought in June was Mighty No. 9 (PS4) (more on that in a minute). As usual, PS+ was a mixed bag. I'm glad to have Gone Home (PS4) on a console now. My wife got that on the computer not long after it first came out but I never played it on there (and she never finished it either lol). So I'd like to give that a try. Siren: Blood Curse Episodes 1-12 (PS3) has always interested me. I'm not familiar with echochrome (PS3) or LIttle Deviants (Vita) but hey, maybe they're good.

Now Playing

-Mighty No. 9 (PS4)

So far this game is pretty disappointing. It doesn't look much better than a PS2 game, the music is utterly forgettable, the characters are annoying rather than endearing, and the central gameplay mechanic gets old because you use it on every bad guy. It's not a bad game, just...terribly average. I plan to finish it but I don't feel much drive to do so.

If only it was as cool as this picture makes it out to be Frown

-Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition (PS4)

I got this for my wife for Christmas and we finally started playing it. I'm went with a crusader and my wife is a monk. We just did the first part of Act III.

-Virtue's Last Reward (Vita) (PS+)

Coming into the endgame, I think. Been at this for 34+ hours and it's still super interesting.

-The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Picross (3DS)

I finished all the normal picross puzzles. Halfway through the mega picross ones.

-Freedom Wars (Vita) (PS+)

-Destiny: The Taken King (PS4)

I didn't really like Star Fox Zero that much.

How is the music in God Eater?  I only ask because I read that my favorite video game music composer, Go Shiina, did the songs in the game.

I think I'll wait until Mighty No. 9 goes down in price before I buy it, since I hear it's not that great.

I can't figure out the Mega Picross rules!

Star Fox Zero is certainly less accessible than some of it predecessors, like Star Fox 64, so I can see how it could be polarizing. I enjoyed it though.

To be honest, I don't remember what the music in God Eater was like. It's been several years since I played it. God Eater 2 is finally coming out here this August, though, and I'll probably play that at some point.

I'm sure you'll find a deal on Mighty No. 9 sooner or later. Just keep your expectations in check  -___-

I thought they did a pretty good job explaining the Mega Picross rules in the little tutorial. I don't like it as much as the normal rules but it's nice to have something different sometimes.

I'll always have a fondness for Sonic CD. I remember even a night when I was a teen when me and my friends all did acid and played it. THe fact you could travel in time through the levels blew our minds.  Great game.

Too bad about the whole Mighty No. 9 thing.  What a disaster!

I just don't dig the Sonic brand of exploration. I wanna go fast! That's why it was cool that they included a Time Attack mode in the PSN release (I'm just assuming it wasn't in the original but I have no idea). I got the trophy for getting my total time under 25 minutes. That was tough! I had to watch speed run videos online to get pointers on some of the levels. Man, people can do some crazy amazing things!

Yeah speed running is a whole different level of insanity

Boy, I have to get back to Diablo III sometime. I got Minecraft on the brain at the moment.

I figured my wife would like it but she's gotten into it more than I expected! Who knows, we might actually play through this more than once lol

I need to get back to Diablo III because I found out something neat about Puzzle Rings and that treasure gnome that appears. I still need the last achievement for gaining like 5 million gold. I have about half that.

Though not a high priority, i'd still buy Star Fox Zero. if anything, I feel some have been exaggerating flaws of the controls a little too much.

I dunno man, the bonus levels in CD are actually my favorites in the entire Sonic franchise.

Ahh Mighty No. 9, although I still reserve my own judgement until I ever get to play the game, I was following the production drama the game had since 2015 or so and man, I do think the worries were well funded. Even if the game turned to be more on the scale of mediocre-average, I think it must have left a feeling that they could have done so much better.

Star Fox Zero is definitely better than people give it credit for. I recommend it!

Those Sonic CD bonus levels are tough to get to in the first place. I don't think I completed a single one either O_O

You should give Mighty No. 9 a chance some time. I'm sure the price will go down (not that it's terribly expensive to start with). It's not that it's bad...it just could be so much better. Should be, it seems like. You should also pick up the Mega Man Legacy Collection if you haven't Wink
