New Sonic games!

Sega finally announced some new Sonic games in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the series and they sound pretty good. Sonic Mania is a new 2D game with all the benefits of modern technology but it looks old, and you can only play as Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. Most encouraging of all, Sega seems to have realized that they don't make the best Sonic games anymore and have brought in outside help with this one, particularly Christian Whitehead, who did absolute technical wonders for the mobile versions of Sonic 1, 2, and CD.

The other game is yet unnamed and is all Sonic Team and, well, it's just a prerendered movie scene...but the fact that they cite the two best Sonic games of the last ten years (Generations and Colors) has me hopeful. Perhaps it will follow the quality of those games.

Anybody have any thoughts? If these games come together well enough, 2017 could be the best year for Sonic in a long, long time.

The Sonic Mania game looks like they're taking the Mega Man 9 and 10 approach.  Sonic Mania looks like it might have some promise, though.

I think if SEGA wants a GOOD 2-D Sonic game, they need to hire the folks who made Freedom Planet.

Anyone else excited that Namco just announced Pac-Man Championship Edition 2?  Anyone?
