Games Beaten

-Rollers of the Realm (PS4/Vita)

Pinball certainly isn't the first thing I'd think to pair with a fantasy RPG but it works fairly well. The pinball physics are fairly forgiving (you can move your ball a little bit, depending on the character) and the characters are nicely distinct. There is lots of variety in the levels and objectives, even if the campaign isn't terribly long, but hey, it's a downloadable game. Replay value is limited to chasing high scores in the arena (not my jam) but I'm happy to play a fun game and move on.

-God Eater 2: Rage Burst (PS4)

GE2 is largely more of the same from the first game, which is fitting, since the story is a direct follow up. But the game sure doesn't skimp on either content or the length of its campaign! The story and characters are fun and the combat stays accessible without becoming button mashy. It may not be as deep but it is certainly a more player-friendly game than Monster Hunter!

Games Bought

The big release this month, of course, was Destiny 2 (PS4). It has been a lot of fun so far, though my wife has actually put in a lot more time than I have because I've been distracted by a few other games, most notably Metroid: Samus Returns (3DS). That leads us to PS+ games, which was a little light for me this month. Hatoful Boyfriend (PS4/Vita) is by far the most interesting. It's a romantic visual novel where you go to a school for pigeons. Yes, it's a parody but I hear it's really good. Strike Vector EX (PS4) looks like a cool multiplayer space combat game. WE ARE DOOMED (PS4/Vita) is yet another twin stick shooter and RIGS Mechanized Combat (PSVR) will be nice in the unlikely event that I ever get a PSVR lol.

Now Playing

-Destiny 2

A much more polished and user-friendly game than Destiny 1. I'm not rad on all the changes but I'm really enjoying it overall. I'll be playing this for a long time.

-Metroid: Samus Returns (3DS)

3DS_MetroidSamusReturns

This remake of Metroid II turned out much better than I feared (considering the track record of its developer) and I've definitely enjoyed playing it. I've got just a fear Metroids left to eradicate, so this one should be done soon.

-Yakuza Kiwami (PS4)

I really like this game but it's so easy to get sidetracked on the copious side content! Destiny 2 has definitely canabalized my time for it somewhat though.

-Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen (3DS)

Finished Torneko's chapter (he's the merchant) but I took a break from this to play Metroid. Looking forward to getting back to it.

-God Eater 2: Rage Burst (PS4)

I may have beaten it but we're not done yet! There is still more content we haven't seen yet and more equipment to get. If all goes well, I'm going to try to Platinum it.

your wife has played more Destiny 2 than you???  I guess we know who wears the Destiny pants in that relationship!  Tongue Out

I wish Samus returns was on Switch, but I still might buy it for 3DS. I tried to download the demo for monster hunter stories, but my small SD card in the 3DS was like "I don't think so, dude!"

I love Dragon Quest games.

Hey, man, Destiny 2 is all she's playing! I am enjoying a buffet of gaming goodness Tongue Out

Samus Returns is a solid return for the series after its absence following Other M. I haven't finished it yet but overall I'd say it's one of the weaker 2D adventures but, other than the 8-bit games, that is an incredible line up, so I'm not trying to dump on it. I'll have more to say in next month's recap Wink

I am quickly becoming a Dragon Quest fan!

I've always wanted to play Rollers of the Realm. I may have played a demo for when it came out, though. When I have cash, I'm gonna buy it.

I bought it really cheap during a sale, so you can probably save some money if you keep an eye out for it!

I miss the Daily Heroic Missions most.

I was saying to my wife the other day how it's nice that I can jump straight into something without worrying about getting bounties first...but that I missed the satisfaction of completing the bounties. I guess the challenges and milestones serve the same function and are more convenient. They just don't have the same kind of tactile feel to them. I guess it's similar with all the old dailies

It is so nice that they have streamlined so many things that no longer waste the players time, but something is missing now.  I guess part of my complaint is that there doesn't seem to be reason enough to check in with the game on a daily basis.  Which is something that I shouldn't complain about, but it sucks when I really just want to.

I really liked the God Eater anime (which only covers a third of the first game, I hear), so I wouldn't mind checking out the games sometime. Unfortunately, I don't like playing on my PS4, so I doubt I'll ever get around to it.

For Destiny 2, I'll be waiting for next year's expansion. Too short, and too pricey right now. Plus, they will probably iron out a lot of the problems with the game like they did for the first Destiny.

Do you have a Vita? God Eater 2--as well as the remake of the first game--are available on the Vita. It's cross play and cross save between the two systems, but unfortunately not cross buy -__- GE Resurrection has been on sale already and the second game will likely follow suit at some point, so keep an eye out!

I think the value proposition with the Destiny games is directly proportional to how many friends you have playing the game and how dedicated they are. I feel that I've definitely already gotten my money's worth out of it and I haven't finished the raid or even started a second character yet!

No, I don't have a Vita. It's a nice looking console, unfortunately not enough games come out for it.

I used to have friends I played Destiny with, but I've lost touch with them. Yeah, it is much better when you play with friends. Never did get to try the Raids however...

I'm also playing through Metroid: SR and really enjoying it. It's the first ever 2.5D metroid game, which is really cool. They did a good job with it.

I've finished it now and definitely enjoyed it. I have some quibbles (more on that next month!) but it has a great endgame.
