Games Beaten

-Raiden V: Director's Cut (PS4)

Raiden V is a blast. It looks and sounds really good and makes good use of its 3D graphics (zooming in and out at times makes a big difference on gameplay). The weapons all feel distinct and I love that you don't lose power when you die. You can power through the game easily enough (infinite continues) and enjoy the content but a single credit run is satisfyingly difficult. The game is a good length for replays, too, coming in at a little more than an hour. And you can play co-op!

-F.E.A.R. (360)

F.E.A.R. left me with mixed feelings. I think the game is a little too long and focuses too much on firefights—the combat is fine but nothing special (despite a decent weapon variety)—when the story and horror bits are much more interesting. The story saved the game from being generic but it's spread a little thin. Playing in 2017 I can say the game does not hold up visually but the sound design is really well done. Overall, it's a troubled but solid first effort for a franchise.

-Destiny 2 (PS4)

Destiny 2 had big shoes to fill and I'm happy with how it's done. Not all the changes are to my liking—where's Rift in PvP?—but the gunplay continues to be the best around and the A/V is a joy to behold. The campaign is a great intro to the REAL game (which is a little slight at the moment but will only get more robust with expansions) and there is a pretty good breadth of content, though even repeating stuff continues to be fun with friends. The raid is a good balance of challenge and brevity and the Nightfalls continue to challenge even at the end.

Games Bought

My first purchase of November was Tom Clancy's EndWar for the DS, a game that I didn't know existed for portables. Unlike its console counterparts, this version of the game is a turn-based strategy game that looks an awful lot like Advance Wars on a hex grid. After that was the big moment when...*drum roll*...we bought a Switch! And Super Mario Odyssey! Woohoo! We also picked up a couple games on Black Friday, namely Nier: Automata (PS4) and BioShock: The Collection (PS4).

On the PS+ side I got Bound (PS4), which is some kind of weird psychology-through-dance-as-a-platformer thing or something O_O There was also Worms Battlegrounds (PS4), which I don't doubt is good dumb fun, Dungeon Punks (PS4/Vita), and Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse: Episodes 1 and 2 (Vita). I also got the PSVR game Until Dawn: Rush of Blood for free. I will probably never have a PSVR but hey, can't hurt to have free games just in case lol.

Now Playing

-Super Mario Odyssey (Switch)

Super Goomba Odyssey

Basically, this game is as awesome as everyone says. I'm exploring New Donk City right now. Can't wait to play more!

-Yakuza Kiwami (PS4)

I've taken my time with this game but have stuck to the critical path lately. In chapter 11 of 13. Not too much more to go.

-Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen (DS)

Just doing a little last minute grinding before confronting the boss of the game.

-Destiny 2 (PS4)

Getting ready to dive into the first expansion!

-God Eater 2: Rage Burst (PS4)

Chasing down the last few trophies. One of them is a real grind that I am figuring out an efficient strategy for.

That Tom Clancy Endwar for DS sounds good. Reminds me of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Shadow Wars for 3DS. It was a turn based strategy game made by some creators of XCOM. It was great. The license would've put me off it, but the gameplay hooked me.

I have Shadow Wars too! Tongue Out I fear EndWar will suffer a similar fate of sitting around...but it was so cheap lol and it does look really good.

I'll have to pick it up when I can.

I wish I had the time to play more Destiny 2 right now...  Back when it released I was wondering if I was making a mistake, knowing that I was 5 or so weeks away from a newborn.

Better to have loved and lost...or, um, played and dropped than to have never played...or something? You can always jump back in later. At least you have a Switch right now to allow your gaming to be really flexible.
