Games Beaten

-The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch)

Breath of the Wild is a beautiful game with a lovely, massive world to explore. Combat feels good and the weapon degradation insures you'll try a lot of different weapons, if nothing else. It can be a very demanding, difficult game but has a great progression of empowerment and its sense of exploration and discovery is unparalleled. It's probably a little too long for its own good (I spent 80 hours and many people easily double that) but manages to feel fresh throughout, no small feat. If I had more time, I'd love to spend more in this Hyrule.

Games Bought

December brought a smattering of gifted games. Well, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Switch) at launch Wink My kids came out with Splatoon 2 (Switch) and Just Dance 2018 (Wii U), one of which I am hoping to play myself. On the when-will-I-have-time-for-this front, I got Octopath Traveler (Switch) and Final Fantasy X/X-2 (PS4), as well as A Way Out (PS4), a co-op-only game I'm looking forward to playing with my wife. That brings us to PS+, which had a pretty good month, I think. Soma (PS4)—existential horror narrative-driven game set at the bottom of the sea—is what I'm most interested in but Onrush (PS4) looks to be a fun arcade racer, if I ever get around to trying it. I've already beaten Steins;Gate on Vita but I won't turn down a free PS3 copy, and Steredenn: Classic (PS3) looks like a cool roguelike shmup. Lastly, the Vita made a strong showing with Iconoclasts and Papers, Please.

Now Playing

-Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Switch)

Playing this as able. I've unlocked maybe 12-15 characters. My six-year-old son, on his account, has already filled the whole roster Surprised

-Destiny 2: Forsaken (PS4)

Getting into the new annual pass DLC. Hoping to do the raid, finally, sometime soon.

-Earth Defense Force 2025 (PS3)

Progress slowed as I missed a couple nights in December but I did recently get Hardest finished with my Ranger. Onto Inferno!

With Breath of the Wild done, I'll finally be moving onto some new games. Yay! Also, be sure to check back in a couple days for my recap of 2018 and the annual Golden Hippo Awards!

I finished it on December 31 Surprised

You can't beat a six-year-old when it comes to free time lol

It's just amazing how it feels like I've played so many games this year but your list has all this Nintendo i would love to play but can't and pretty much everything else I happened not to play. Lol I would love getting to iconoclasts at some point.

Hahaha, my 6 year old son has unlocked the entire roster twice now. I feel your pain. It's impressive how quickly they get good at games. He's even managed to best me in a few matches with some characters I'm less proficient with. It won't be long before he's consistently beating me in general. The kid is a beast.

Sounds like he'll be ready for those 100-hour RPGs pretty soon!

Good luck with Inferno mode. I remember doing a few levels on Inferno just to get some sweet drops. But darn are they difficult.

EDF 5 should be out now, but I don't see it on Gamestop's web site yet. Wonder what's up with that.

Looks like you can buy an import copy but it hasn't been released domestically yet. Weird.

I thought I saw a December release date, but then again, it was wiki, so there you are.
