Here we are, February first and I've got nothing special for Blog-a-Day. Oh well, I guess I'll give it a try anyway, against my better judgment. The response to my earlier blog was pretty encouraging. So here's BaD #1!

Games Beaten

-Mega Man 11 (Switch)

Mega Man 11 is what I had hoped for from Might No. 9. It's just a really solid MM game. Nothing about it is truly exceptional—though I do think the Double Gear System keeps it from feeling too rote of a sequel—but nothing really pulls it down either. That said, I was disappointed with the forgettable music. But on the whole it is a very good, if very conservative, game. Hopefully we'll get some more and hopefully Capcom will take more risks.

-A Way Out (PS4)

It's not an ugly game but neither is it good looking. The play mechanics are a little stiff and uninspired but they never get in the way. The story is fine. The one thing I think it does quite well is the interactions between the two main characters...but I feel that is undermined by the ending. So I have pretty mixed feelings. But hey, it was cool to play a game designed for co-op rather than "doing the same thing...together!" co-op. I wish more games were like this but done better.

Games Bought

January was a big Switch month for me. I bought a Flip Grip and imported the two Psikyo Collections, which each have four old arcade shmups on them like Gunbird and Strikers: 1941, and they're reeeeally hard lol but fun. So that's technically eight games. I also bought a physical copy of Salt and Sanctuary for the Switch, which I've been wanting to try ever since it came out. I ended up grabbing all the PS+ games for January. Zone of the Enders HD Collection (PS3) is probably the most likely to get played, though I have enough fond memories of SSX that I couldn't pass up STEEP (PS4). No doubt it plays nothing like SSX. Oh well. Fallen Legion: Flames of Rebellion (PS4/Vita) looks like it might be a cool action RPG. Amplitude (PS3) is a Harmonix rhythm game. Portal Knights (PS4) looks like a Minecraft-informed action RPG that my kids would probably get a kick out of. Super Mutant Alien Assault (Vita) is quite the mouthful of a title. Also, looks like a fun bite-sized action platformer.

Now Playing

-Cave Story+ (Switch)

I've wanted to play this game for years and so far am enjoying it. Currently looking for dogs in the Sand Zone.

-Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Switch)

Playing this very sporadically. I need to get back to the Spirits mode.

-Destiny 2 (PS4)

I'm trying to get the Whisper of the Worm gun right now and it's pretty tricky.

-Earth Defense Force 2025 (PS3)

Slooowly working through Inferno with my Ranger.

I think this is my sixth year doing Blog-a-Day Surprised

I also have the Zone or the Enders HD Collection, and I still have yet to play it. I’ve never  played the series at all. I hear the first one is especially good.

There is also a GBA game that I always thought looked pretty interesting but I never got around to picking up. Too bad the series is dead.

I've never had the skillz for Megaman, but I've always respected the series from afar. Too bad the music isn't great, that's always been a high point for the games.

Yeah, the music in MM11 was just sort of there, this light techno that I rarely noticed consciously. Definitely the game's biggest missed opportunity.

Damn, those are some MIXED feelings *switches to intense/gruff 90s toy announcer voice, air horns are blown*

I liked Mega Man 11 but I think Mega Man 8 was a better 'modern' Mega Man game, bad voice acting and all.  MM11's music was pretty disappointing.  The only tunes I really liked were Fuse Man, Blast Man, and Dr. Wily's Gear Fortress.  The tunes sound so much better in 8-bit, though.

This month marks my sixth year here too. Yikes how time flies.

Oh man, Inferno. That gets brutal in EDF. I only cleared a few levels at that difficulty. Great for farming drops though, if you can complete the level.

The ants are so fast on Inferno! O_O
