Games Beaten

-Sakura Wars (PS4)

Sakura Wars combat pose

Make no mistake: Sakura Wars is a visual novel, one with—for the genre—fantastic production values. It looks great and the Japanese voice work is spot on. The story is fine. It's fun and keeps things moving (I love steampunk 1920s Japan) but it's the characters that really make this game. The gals of the Flower Division are a great bunch and I loved just spending time with them. The game has some musou combat to break up the story bits. It's fine. But I just want to spend more time with these characters.

Games Bought

We did not buy any games in June. Yes, I am as confused and shocked as everyone else!

Games Being Played

-Blaster Master Zero 2 (Switch)

Blaster Master Zero 2

Almost done with this great throwback action platformer.

-Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (Switch)

Still in the early goings. About to do the Hunter Rank 2 quest.

-Picross S2 (Switch)

Progress has slowed as the puzzles have gotten much more difficult but I'm still plugging away at it.

-Destiny 2 (PS4)

Same ol', same ol'.

I reveiwed a Sakura Wars game back on the Wii.  I couldn't get into it, but that doesn't mean it was a bad game.  Very high production values anyway.  I just don't like tactical RPGs and I got tired of having to talk to everyone all the time in between battles.  There was one character I thought was kind of neat, though.  She was a cowgirl from Texas and in the game she tries to move her horse into her apartment.  I thought that was funny.  I think her name was Gemini Sunrise or something like that, if you care.  Are there any neat characters in the new Sakura Wars game you think I'd like?

I've always been curious about the Master Blaster Zero games, but since I never got into the one on the NES, I haven't tried the new ones yet.

Make sure to read my new blog on my best games of 2021 so far!

There's no one quite as, uh, flamboyant as that particular Texan in the new Sakura Wars but there is a girl—maybe 10 years old?—who is a legit ninja, which is pretty cool.

I never played Blaster Master on NES and I have thoroughly enjoyed the Zero games, so I say give them a try!

Eh, I havent beaten crap. I'm playing games like a stoned teenager at an all-you-can-eat buffet.

Haven't you been playing long RPGs exclusively? No wonder you haven't beaten anything!

I'm tempted to try Sakura Wars on my PS4. Maybe on a sale or something.

Sakura Wars is definitely not for everyone, which is a caveat for every visual novel, but I'd encourage you to give it a try if you see it on sale.
