Games Beaten

-The Great Ace Attorney (Switch)

This is far and away the best looking Ace Attorney game. The animations are really fantastic. I love the character designs and the characters themselves are very well done. The stories, while intricate, lack good villains, which sucks a little of the satisfaction out. It's clearly setting up the next game, which had better make good on all these loose ends! I enjoyed my time here but this is a case where you need to play the sequel right away.

-Metroid Fusion (GBA)

Yup, Fusion holds up. It's not just my rosy memories! The game walks the fine line between story and classic Metroid exploration. Yes, you are always pointed where to go but getting there can be rather difficult and often requires thinking outside the box (or map). It can also be quite challenging at times. I liked how story beats could lead to physical changes in places you had already been and how the devs tailored the action to the size of the GBA screen. Plus the story left interesting threads for Dread to pick up. Great game.

Games Bought

October saw a handful of solid purchases for us. First was the physical release of Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! (Switch), the anime poetry horror game. Definitely looking forward to playing that, hopefully sooner rather than later. Next my newly seven-year-old son got Minecraft Dungeons (Switch) for this birthday. I'd like to get a family playthrough of that sometime. And, of course, I got Metroid Dread (Switch)!

Games Being Played

-Metroid Dread

Finally got the morph ball. I'm surprised how long you go in this game without it! I am enjoying my time with this game so far.

-Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (Switch)

Made it to Hunter Rank 6. Some of these monsters really mean business o_O

-New Pokémon Snap (Switch)

Continuing to slowly work through this game. Just unlocked the volcano level.

-Destiny 2 (PS4)

I've shifted my focus to trying to do the challenges for the current title: Realmwalker. Some of the challenges are pretty tough! We'll see if I can actually get them done.

Okay, so the second Great Ace Attorney game is fantastic. The first game sets up a bunch of stuff that will get resolved in the second game, don't worry. The last case in the second game is unbelievable. Also, I just beat Metroid Dread, fantastic game, I know you'll love that one too.

I finished the first set of cases from The Great Ace Attorney.  Since it took me so long to do that, I took a break from it for a while so I could play some shorter games and work on games I'm reviewing.  Some of the in-between games include Bowser's Fury (overblown Odyssey level), Sonic Colors Ultimate (horrible controls), Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania (Fun but they messed up Monkey Target), ActRaiser Renaissance (Great except for the tower defense stuff they added to it), and Metroid Dread (I'm enjoying it so far).  I WILL get back and finish the second set of cases in The Great Ace Attorney real soon, though.  Probably after I finish Metroid Dread.

Only thing I didn't like about Metroid Fusion is the linearity and how they blocked off sections of levels for the sake of the story.  Otherwise it was really fun.

I played the arcade version of Minecraft Dungeons at Dave & Busters.  Plays like a cross between Gauntlet and a beat 'em up, but you got a real life trading card each time you played, so that was cool.

New Pokemon Snap is looking like it'll be my GOTY this year.
