Games Beaten

-Slay the Spire (Switch)

Slay the Spire

Strategy is not my forte and roguelikes are generally not my cup of tea, but I do like deck building (shout out to the physical card game Dominion) and Slay the Spire brings those all together in a delightful whole that was hard to put down. The game will not impress in the A/V department but the depth of the strategy across the four classes (all very different but viable) is astounding. Yet it remains approachable. A very impressive achievement and a very fun game. Highly recommended.

-Minecraft Dungeons (Switch)

Minecraft Dungeons manages to make a Diablo-like action RPG dungeon crawler accessible to a very wide audience. My kids would not have cared at all about Generic Fantasy Dungeons but they jumped excitedly into this one. There is nice variety to the locations, enemy types, and gear and despite the kid-friendly veneer, you can turn up the difficulty and really give the game some teeth. I would not be surprised if we play through all the DLC as well. Good game.

Games Bought

January was a light month on acquisitions, consisting solely of Death end re;Quest (Switch)—a very anime JRPG/visual novel hybrid that looks interesting—and Persona 5 Strikers (PS4) thanks to PS+.

Games Being Played

-Minecraft Dungeons (Switch)

We bought some DLC and are still pluggin away at this on the Adventure difficulty (2nd of 3 difficulty tiers).

-The Great Ace Attorney 2 (Switch)

Finally started this second game and it pulled me right in. I'm on the second case.

-Mario Super Picross (Super Famicom - Switch Online)

Been playing this before falling asleep. Picross is so great!

-Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (Switch)

Made it to Hunter Rank 7. It boggles my mind how much content this game has. We're still running into new monsters!

-Destiny 2 (PS4)

Trying to finish a few things up before Witch Queen—the next big expansion—drops in three weeks.

Blog-a-Day! Last year I started playing Taito Legends (a collection of classic Taito arcade games) on the PS2 but there were too many games (maybe it was a...BaD choice?), so this year I'm picking up where I left off. New old games starting tomorrow!

I played the arcade version of Minecraft Dungeons.  It's neat because the machine actually dispenses real trading cards you can use!

I'm still playing The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles.  I'm on the third case of the second set of chapters.

I've tried to stay away from the Switch online SNES games, because I would never get anything done if I got into them, but I did dive into Mario's PIcross since it was a SNES game I never played, being only in Japan before.

I didn't know there was an arcade version of Minecraft Dungeons! What a strange but cool idea. I can see the appeal of that.

I've been meaning to download another Picross game for months now but just hadn't gotten around to it. Then i realized one was freely available to me! Not the kind of game that suffers from the language barrier lol

I did download a Picross game that has SEGA characters in it.  it's on the Switch.

I got to the final boss in Minecraft Dungeons and couldn't beat it solo. I was playing the daily challenges but kind of stopped. I was hoping my gaming buddy would get into it too and we'd play co-op but that didn't happen. It would be better played co-op, for sure. I want to play more of it.

Love Slay the Spire. I got pretty far the last time I played but no where near the people on the leaderboards. Those scores are crazy.

My seven-year-old and I are playing one of the Minecraft Dungeon Expansions right now—Echoing Void—and we finally got to the boss and it wiped us out. Very difficult o_O

I think two players is the sweet spot for co-op on that game though. We did play some three-player at one point and I kept losing track of where my character was.

Now that my friend has Game Pass, I should make another attempt to get him to play with me. I still haven't beaten that first end-boss.
