Games Beaten

-Costume Quest 2 (Wii U)

Costume Quest 2 is not all that mechanically different from the first game. The battles are breezy if shallow and the light puzzle solving is elevated by the great dialogue. CQ2 knows it's a silly game and leans into that. With a new story (time travel!) and a whole new set of costumes, playing this 6-8 hour RPG is a delightful diversion. I do wish you could change costumes during battle, as I think that would add some needed depth, but the game does not overstay its welcome.

Games Bought

November saw just a few acquisitions but they are good ones. We had an early Christmas with some out-of-town friends and they gave me NG (Switch), the second game in the Spirit Hunter series of Japanese horror visual novels. I'm stoked to have this game...but I need to get the first one now, not because the stories connect (I don't think) but just because my brain is like...gotta play the first one first Yell I also picked up a physical copy of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge (Switch). I know this one is really good but I'm waiting to play it because I want to experience the first time playing with my family. There are not a lot of games with six-player co-op but this is one of them. We just don't have enough working Switch controllers (thanks to drift and rough children) but we're getting the kids each their own Switch controller for Christmas (wired, for budgetary reasons, plus they have Mario characters on them), so I'm holding off until them. I'm excited though.

PS+ games for November were pretty good. Nioh 2 (PS4) is supposedly a very good Souls-like. I've already played the two games in the LEGO Harry Potter Collection (PS4) but it's nice to have them on a more recent console. These games hail from the days when LEGO games did not have voice acting and everything was conveyed in delightful pantomime. Rounding things out is Heavenly Bodies (PS4), a game about hot babes that *checks notes* oh, uh, I mean it's a zero-G puzzle game and I am a sucker for sci-fi stuff like this set in space.

Heavenly Bodies

I mean, there could be a hot babe in one of those suits, ya know?

Games Being Played

-Kirby and the Forgotten Land (Switch)

I'm in the back half of the game—the scary fire land currently—and really enjoying it. It's a great game to play with kids too. I've had a rotating roster of helpers playing as Waddle Dee.

-Mario Super Picross (Super Famicom - Switch Online)

I finished the last puzzle on November 30 only to discover that Wario has an additional, secret set of puzzles. Working on those now.

-Destiny 2 (PS4)

The pirate season is ending this week. Interested to see what the next one will be.

-Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (Switch)

Mopping up some older quests with multiple big monsters. These would have been really difficult if we had done them when they first popped up but they're not too bad at this point. Beating them, though, has been unlocking additional Hunter Arts abilities.

I never got into Costume Quest.  You'd think I would, but the battles just didn't draw me in like a Paper Mario or Mario & Luigi game does.

I have a physical copy of TMNT: Shredder's Revenge, too.  It's a very good game.

The Mario RPGs are definitely a step up in their battle systems. That's too bad you couldn't get into Costume Quest. It does seem right up your alley. Hmm, maybe if there was a Pacman costume...

I really like the space suit adventures too. I should get back to Citizen Sleeper.

Shredder's Revenge is my GOTY, it's fantastic! I wouldn't say it's better than TMNT 4 for SNES because it gets repetitive and is too long, but with 6 players, it's a blast.

You've had a chance to do the six-player co-op? That's a lot of needed controllers and people!

Actually, I've done it two ways--online (which was really cool), and with the nieces and nephews (some had to use joy cons).

Shredder's Revenge sounds fun.
