Games Beaten

-Strikers 1945 II (Switch)

Like the first game, Strikers 1945 II is a solid shoot-'em-up with an alt-history mecha-heavy WWII theme but I don't like it as much. The levels—which were already short in the first game— feel kind of by-the-numbers here and the bosses are less interesting. Most annoying, though, is a new charge shot feature. Despite playing multiple times, I still do not know how exactly it works. My gun would just charge randomly and if I didn't notice (while dodging bullets) I'd end up not shooting at all. I'd definitely replay the first one over this sequel.

*Special Update*

-Hades (Switch)

I marked Hades beaten in July but I kept playing it and finished the narrative arc of the story (beating it ten times, basically). It was really good! It had a fairly satisfying conclusion while leaving a narrative reason why you can keep playing. And there is still plenty more to do! I can see myself popping it in for a quick run attempt every now and then.

Games Bought

August is a birthday month in our house and, as such, there were some gifted games. My oldest son got not only Mario Golf: Super Rush (Switch), which he had asked for, but also an actual N64 with Mario Party 3 and Super Smash Bros. (his cousin got one a year and a half ago and he has wanted his own ever since). He was so surprised and excited! And speaking of excited, I was finally able to get The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Switch)—more on that later! Lastly, I picked up Death's Door (PS5) from the month's PS+ offerings. It's an isometric action game with a cool art style and very good reviews.

Games Being Played

-The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Switch)

I've only played maybe an hour and a half and am still in the opening area but the game seems pretty good. Shows promise Wink

-Destiny 2 (PS5)

A new season has begun! Thematically it is quite different from the last season, though this one's seasonal activities are both for three-man fireteams, whereas last season had one three-man activity and one six-man. Since we often have four people playing, it's a little frustrating in that way but seems fun so far.

-Depixtion (Switch)

My progress has slowed considerably due to the size of the puzzles but I'm still plugging away most nights before sleeping.

-Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (Switch)

Let me tell you, folks. There is a monster called the Deviljho and the enraged hyper version is a total &%$# but one of the guys I play with is crafting its armor set and we keep fighting this thing again. And again. And again. O_O

Have fun with Tears of the Kingdom!  It took me about 100 hours and three months to beat!

I'm just hoping to finish it by the end of the year!

Mario Golf: Super Rush sounds like it might be interesting. Does it have some gameplay addition that speeds up golf?

Your Monster Hunter Generations experience sounds like mine with Earth Defense Force 2025 right now.

I haven't gotten to play Super Rush yet, so I'm not sure. I assume it has some crazy antics!

Man, we played one of the EDF games for a loooong time. Might have been 2025. The trophy requirements for that game were very unrealistic.

Yeah, the trophies/achievements in EDF2025 are nuts. I'm nearly at 500 hours and haven't gotten them all yet. With online play, though, I'm getting quite close. I never played online before this year. Oh, and the DLC offered some new enemies that drop a lot more loot, which makes farming for a better armor rating a little easier, but "easy" isn't a word that goes with EDF, any of them.

Finally! TotK is so incredible! I think it's easily superior to BotW and its story is one of the best in the whole franchise. Excited to hear what you think about it!

Right now I am missing the paraglider. I liked knowing that wherever I wandered off to, I could always jump off and float to safety. But I am looking forward to literally delving this game's secrets!
