Magnet Man kicks it to 11

Magnet Missiles

From: Mega Man 3

Remixed by: JJT, ptitteri, zyko

Bending genres is cool but sometimes it doesn't work out. Who would think to throw grungy electrectric guitar together with trombone, trumpet, organ, and copious percussion? What would that even be? Well it's EPIC, first of all, but my money's on jazz rock. I've never heard anything quite like this remix before and that's a shame but also puts it in a category all its own.

The guitar opens but soon the organ and then brass come in and you know you're in for a ride. All the major players get one or more shots in the limelight but they play supporting roles too. Heck, the upper parts so engaging that it's easy to overlook the fanatastic bass action going on for most of the song. And for a remix with no real weaknesses, the trombone is a real standout. As someone who played trombone through elementary, junior high, high school, and a little bit of college, let me assure you, this guy is good. Remixes don't get much more original or enjoyable that this. It's one of my favorites, so I hope you'll like it too. Enjoy!

It actually reminds me a lot of something a punk/ska band would do. In fact, had you not told me this was a game remix, I'd just guess this was some Reel Big Fish or some such band's instrumental I'd never heard.

I approve. Cool

I'd like ska a lot more if there wasn't any singing lol. Really, brass is sorely underutilized in popular music. I remember there were some good ska-like songs in Sonic Adventure 2 on the GameCube.

I own that and only seem to remember Saturday morning toon style rock songs, but I haven't played it much lately, so I'll take your word for it.

I know ska singers aren't the greatest, but I love that style of music anyway, and their voice adds to it for me.

My brother used to play the trumpet. I guess the Trombone would be harder though. I've heard this song countless times, but never quite like that lol. I really liked the guitar solo around the 2:20 mark. I'll have to play MM3 tonight and compare the two. Magnet Man's level rocks! Cool

Every part of the song is just so good. The trombone is my favorite but maybe that's because I play it (well, not recently lol). There are a lot of guitar tracks too. The guy really did a good job with them Smile

The trombone is definitely the best part, mainly because it almost doesn't fit in with the rest of the instruments, yet it works! The guitar takes off and does its worst, then the whole song calms down, and the trombone comes in carrying the melody. That's awesome!

Sounds like the kind of music they play at the end of Japanese anime shows like Naruto or Bleach!

Really? That's cool. I've never actually seen either of those lol

original yes, enjoyable, not really for me. I'm sorry but the organ and the brass didn't do it for me. I can't see the marriage between those and a mega man tune. A fine attempt though but I doubt I'd add this to my playlist. If anything it has more going for it than just the generic industrial sounds.

To each his own then. Thanks for listening and commenting though. I'm glad you gave it a chance. Maybe you'll like next week's pick more!

I like genre combinations, so this song really pleased me. It's energetic and the mix and sound changes fit the song very well. Overall, great song.

My thoughts too. You just don't hear many remixes like that because synthesized brass generally does not sound very convincing at all. Glad you liked it!
