Greenman Talks RPG and Platformer Fans

RPG fans are a bunch of entitled little babies. There, I fucking said it, now read on or just leave your shit on my comments section for me to laugh at. I am fucking SICK of all these RPG fans crying, "WAAAAAAH we don't have enough RPGs on consoles, we have to play our games on portables and Kickstarters!!!! Also Bob Mackey gave Ni No Kuni a C+ and his opinion holds SOOOOOOOO much wait that it'll hurt the genre's comeback."

Meanwhile, where are the platformer fans demonizing the Tomb Raider reboot before they get the chance to play it? Why are they not giving Assassin's Creed 3 and Uncharted low scores as soon as they can for offering bare bones platforming that does not satisfy what they crave from the genre in any way shape or form? They're not doing that because they are not a bunch of entitled little babies!

Oh, what's that? We're still getting platformers? Get that shit out of here! We're getting nothing but 2D platformers. And I love 2D platformers, it's my favorite genre. But that doesn't mean that I don't want a nice 3D platformer every now and then. Whether it's a cartoony one like Mario or Sly or a realistic one like Prince of Persia. These fill different niches, yet we're getting very little of the first and next to nothing from the second (and when we do, it's as bare bones as you can imagine).

You know how much I would love to see a Legend style Tomb Raider on Vita or 3DS? I would be glad if the amount of those kinds of platformers equalled the amount of JRPGs the 3DS is getting. I would be satisfied in every sense of the word, HD consoles be damned! Meanwhile the 3DS already got Soul Hackers with SMT4, a new Mario and Luigi, and Pokemon on the way.

I'd LOVE for the future of realistic (you know what? I'm just going to call the western platformers from now on) western platformers to be that bright. To be getting a consistent stream of games that are offering what I expect from the genre. None of Assassin's Creed's auto run. None of Tomb Raider's bullet time whenever something resembling challenge appears. Game design that encourages exploration, quick reflexes, and puzzle solving based on climbing within the confines of a 3D realm.

You didn't see people condemning Sly 4 because many people gave it average scores. I thought that game was fucking great, but didn't give the backlash an average Ni No Kuni score received. 3D platformers are in just as bad if not worse of shape as RPGs. Yet it is RPG fans who are doing all the bitching while platformer fans are enjoying what they can. And you know what? It's creating an environment where it feels like the lack of platformers is not as big of an issue as the lack of RPGs.

So you RPG fans enjoy the games your getting. As one of you, I know I will. But just know there are people whose needs aren't even being met on portables or aren't getting the half a dozen kickstarter games that WRPGs are getting. I haven't even mentioned the survival horror fans who have it even worse right now.

This has been Drunk Greenman creating a mess for sober Greenman to clean up when he sees the comments tomorrow. Fuck that guy.

ha ha, well platformer fans aren't as insane as JRPG fans.  You have to be pretty chill to play those boards over and over while you get knocked into pits by flying fish. Smile

Goddamn survival-horror fans. Bunch of whiny, entitled babies.

There are next to no JRPGs on PC. I kind of want one. Also, very little 2D platformers? That genre is so goddamn over saturated I rarely want to play one. They are military shooter of the indie world. And I want a 3D platformer, like crash, or Jak and Daxter, or Ratchet and Clank...

I said the opposite: we're getting nothing but 2D platformers.

"very little of the first and next to nothing from the second" That's the line I was referring to.

Yeah, with the two types of 3D platformers. Very little cartoony ones and next to nothing from realistic ones.

I prefer jrpgs on the portables.  It makes it so much easier to multi-task when all I plan on doing for the next 2 hours is grind.

First of all, Bob Mackey is hilarious on the RadioRadar podcast. I really enjoy him. As to his Ni No Kuni review. I really could care less about reviews especially concerning JRPGs. They are such a matter of personal taste: whether you like the battle system, the story or characters. Furthermore, I'm fine with just a few major JRPGs or any RPGs coming out within a caledar year. They are usually so darn long that I can only play a few of them a year anyway. And here is a druken response: "Screw platformers! They get me so frustrated I want to break a controler over Michel Ansel's head!"
